Related to a few posts from the past few pages, my rule of thumb is to start with half the minimum wattage listed on a new coil (ie. rated at 60-115 watts, start at 30). Take a hit as soon as you fire the mod. You'll notice hardly any flavour or vapor. You are looking to see if you taste any burning. Bring the wattage up to halfway between your current setting and the minimum setting (in this example, 45 watts) and repeat. Now bring to the minimum rated wattage and chain vape 3-5 hits. You want to make sure the coil is wicking quickly enough to keep up. If it is, from here, bring the wattage up to what you want it at and chain vape a few more times. Note, if the wattage you want it at is a big jump, you might do it in smaller wattage increments. In other words, now you have it at 60 watts but you know you want to be at 100. You might go from 60 to 80 watts, chain vape a few hits, then bring it to 100 watts and chain vape to make sure the coil is keeping up.
The higher the wattage, the sooner the coil will need to be replaced.
With respect to comments about higher flavourings requiring faster coil replacements / rewicking, its all about the filtering process. I tend to take my liquids and shake them for about 60 seconds and take a paper towel and run the liquid through the paper towel. That is, put a thin sheet over the top of your bottle (remove the dripper tip), put one sheet of a paper towel across the top and pour into another bottle. Repeat the process and pour back into the original bottle. This will remove alot of the particulates, many of which actually are crystals that develop in the steeping process (anyone remember rock sugar? Same concept).

Yea, I too find that really weird. I don't find many fellow vapers up here in the great vape state
of Minnesota, but when I do, all of them have been the type you just described, only 1, sometimes even 2 mod's/toppers in their possession and when they need to recoil it's off to their neighborhood vape place to buy another pack (a 5-pack only) of factory coils. How in the world do these folks do it anyways ?? It's like they live in some kind of a bubble. They don't even know that one can rebuild, mix, or buy even cheaper than what they are now. Amazing !! I'm usually not with enough time to educate them on the fine art of vaping, as when I meet them it's either on the way to or from the DR.'s office, or, at the store with my wife. There's so much I would like to say to them to help them along with their vaping experience, as all that I have met have been ex-smokers and act like they could use a few pointers by the way they are attempting to vape, some are quite comical in their attempts.
It's a fairly simple, yet very deilicate 2 step process.

Boy Howdy, I do hear that.
Yes, I do the same with my hand wound coils and KGD/Rayon wicks. I start off a brand new build to produce just barely any vapor at all, then slowly ramp up the power over the first half or so tank full like you. I can usually get about 70-80/90ml's thru each build using KGD as my wicking (haven't charted my Rayon builds yet), and dry burn my coil then re-wick it over and over. I usually put another coil design in before I really have to replace that coil though. Just like driving a 4-speed, start off light on the gas petal at first (or you'll burn rubber), then gradually pick up speed till you reach the speed limit. Makes Tires, and wicks, last a lot longer.
Looks like a Radius to me! Not able to tell if it is the 40w or the 60w, but a Radius by the look of it.
My understanding is that there's a significant difference between CL & CLR heads. I never tried the former, so I can't speak from direct experience.

Yup there is, DPL. When I first got my Tron-S I used the included CL heads (a 1.2Ω Kanthal I think) and noticed that the juice flow (even with 50/50) was slow into the coil, and I also had to drop my wattage a couple of watts from 12 to 10 before that CL head would even start to keep up. I dropped the wattage down to 8 and it was working better, but still no chain vaping over about 3 pulls or it was wanting to go dry on me. When I switched to the CLR coils (the 1.2Ω Kanthal) I noticed a big difference, no more panty waist tippy toeing around, 12, 14, 16 and above wattage was like normal again, and I could chain vape again also. The CL heads are a waste in my opinion (the juice holes are waaay too small), and as I watched others on ECF complain about them and throw their Tron's in the drawer and tell everyone that asked that the Tron was a failed RTA, I just smiled to myself. I and others told those folks to switch to the CLR heads, but some didn't and seemed convinced that the fault lay with the Tron itself.
Especially now! Fortunately for me, my wife prodded me into getting one since I kept making goo-goo eyes at the Provape page but didn't have the gumption to pull the trigger on the purchase. She told me to get it now and get it over with instead of agonizing over it for weeks. That was less than two weeks before the announced they're closing.Thanks! Out of my price range!

I am baffled when I meet people like that as well. Especially if they only have one device. Having 2 devices sounds very reasonable and logical to most vapers and even non vapers. (a backup, maybe a one diff flavor) Now, when I try to explain why I have all this vape gear, while it makes all perfect sense to me ..... Not since I had my evod battery die five minute after leaving the house. I picked up up another set shortly after, My one and only trip to a B&M. Clone kit for $70.
Now I sit here with 3 different setups on my left. A desk full on my right. 2 VV4's charging for tomorrow, still testing the last shipment of mods that will take a couple of weeks before they go in the stash boxes.
I did buy my smokes 200 at a time, I am sure I don't want to count what I have that is usable and not it the junk box.

I have a daily driver, everything else sits in a drawer. I dont have an affinity to my vape gear. If something better comes along, my current device is dropped in the drawer and I use the new device. No need to juggle multiple devices when 1 does the job.
I am currently using an aromamizer plus with an sx mini g class. All day vape on battery and juice supply, plus, the batteries can get a quick boost charge for 15 minutes on usb c if I need to. Mildly happy with the g class so Im using it until something better comes along or yihi gets their act together and gives the promised features this thing was supposed to have.
The difference is, cigarettes have no customization to them. You cant change how they smoke. You cant change how they smell or taste. You cant do anything to them. You light em and they burn and you take a hit when you're ready.
Ecigs are often referred to as mods for a reason. You can change the appearance. You can change how they vape. You can get more vapor production or less. You can tailor throat hit. You can tailor temperature. You can choose between small and compact versus carrying something larger with an all day style experience. The list goes on and on.
There is a reason one of my local vape shops has a sign on the door that says "vaping is a hobby".
The reason it doesn't baffle me is because wanting to quit smoking does not equate to wanting a new hobby. Lots of people have tons of stuff already consuming their every waking moments and don't want to sacrifice that time to something new.
My belief is being that we have addictive personalities, it's hard to stop at just 1 of anything. Once it becomes a hobby, than a lot of us try different styles of vaping. For the longest time it was just a Provari 2.5 and Protank, then a Nautilus tank. Then I tried a friends Atlantis and I owned a 30 Watt device and then a 60 Watt device for more power to go with my Uwell Crown. Then I learned to build and I have my drippers along with my DNA 200 mods.
In the end, it all comes back to my low wattage devices and tanks that take Nautilus coils and 12 ml juice...all day long. For me, everything else is the hobby and collection. One is too many, a thousand never enough lol
