Hi Gal'zzz & Guy'zzz...To try and get started with RTA's I'm gon'a buy either a kayfun or a Siren...Cotton Pads...And Pre-Made coils...My Prism drop-ins are 1.5ohm and I'm happy with those...Looking through the selection at Fast-Tech there seems a better selection at 1.2ohm and many of those are 26ga & 28ga wire...Will I still get a nice cool vape and good flavor at low(11.5+-)watts with a Kanthal Coil like the 2 below ???...And of the Pre-Made coils is there a preferred Manufacturer...Or is there Pre-Made that you like and would recommend ???

I note the difference in wraps, gauge and ID on these 2...Would one be easier to start with ???...Thanks...Trig :D
$1.96 Authentic UD Kanthal A1 Pre-Coiled Heating Wire for Rebuildable Atomizers (10-Pack) - 26 AWG / 0.4mm dia. / 1.2ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
$1.15 Thunderhead Creations Kanthal A1 Pre-Coiled Wire for RBA (10-Pack) - 28 AWG / 0.3mm dia. / 1.2ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Also...Are the Deck Screws Magnetic and do you use a magnetic screwdriver ???
I get a cool vape at 1.2 and I use a magnetic screw driver and I have a magnetic tool tray too.

Thank You...They're so inexpensive I'll probably get several different coils...Just nice to attempt to start somewhere in the right place !!!...But the tank ???...Seems the Innokin will be out pretty soon and it does have a Siren 2 look about it...But the KFv5 Mini does have a larger capacity...I should probably stop squabbling about it and get one of each...

The KF v5 was a bit too loose for me, even at the lowest setting. I had the same results with the Siren v1 but at least it had a regular AFC ring I could tighten the draw a bit more. The Siren v2 seems to have the options for a tighter draw. You might consider the FT/3F offerings in the Kayfun Prime, my first choice would be ShenRay or Coppervape, followed by YFTK and SXK. My understanding is that the Prime is a true MTL tank....whatever that means to them. I'm pretty set on squonking for now, just waiting for somebody to release a MTL rda with a bf pin.

Maybe, maybe not :) And no, I don't. I build over a wash cloth at my desk, so drops stay put. But generally no need to fully remove the deck screws, anyway. Just back 'em out enough to get the coil lead in.

Do bear in mind that on the KFs and many other RTAs you'll be losing 1/2 turn on the coils you linked, so the resistance will be a tad lower than advertised.

Thanks...That's my understanding of the Siren 2 as well...Just wish the 22mm version was more than 2ml...And the Prime is a candidate as well but again 2ml...The one thing that keeps catching my eye on the Siren 2 is the look of the deck screws...Seems like you just back them off to lay the leads in the channel ???...The more I look the more wishy-washy I get...Sure would like to see the specs on the Innokin :D

Thanks For The Tips...Do you ever use pre-made coils ???

No, never have used prewound coils. Winding is simple to do, and I never have to remember to order in advance :)
Thanks David...Not so long ago I wouldn't have given it a second thought...But the Ol' Hands & Eyeballs just ain't work'in as well as they used to...Time marches on...:)

Just like with juice having to time the order and delivery so you didn't go without or scrambling to figure something out fast then end up vaping one of your YUK juices for a day or few before the order showed up...the fun of days gone by. Now get up off the chair, take 3 steps and I have everything I need.
I can count on one hand the stock coils I've used throughout the years, rarely use a multi meter anymore cause I can guess the ohms close enough that it doesn't matter. Learning to make coils has paid gazillion fold to the constant battle of dealing with buying coils along with all the grief that can follow close behind using factory coils.

I don’t use a magnetic screwdriver, but like someone else said you shouldn’t have to take the screws all the way out, just enough to get your lead leg underneath. I use 28g and 26g, the 28g I run at lower wattage like 12-15w, the 26g runs somewhere around 17-20w. I really do like the KFv5 mini, but again like someone else said, it can be a bit airy. Still love it though. As soon as I can buy a new tank I’ll be trying the SXK Kayfun Prime. Oh, and I started out wicking with cotton but gave rayon a try thanks to @brewbear and switched. Still have a giant bag of cotton pads, might as well take them in the bathroom to use on my face! Just give whatever premade you can a try, can’t hurt. In one KFv5 mini I have a 26g around .9ohm that’s great around 15w and in the other a clapton around .5ohm and 20w, it was a wire that came in my coil master kit. I usually wrap with an ID of 2.5. Meh. I’m in my cups this evening if I’ve rambled a bit, so forgive me :toast:

Thanks Much...I kind'a figured on getting a few different gauges and ohms...And now I've got a few good starting points...26/28 & 1.0-1.5 as what would likely be in my preference range...I'm still pondering on the tanks but between the KFv5 Mini / Siren 2 / Kayfun Prime and maybe Innokin there should be 3 or 4 good choices for someone like me...If I decide to buy one tomorrow my gut tells me the Siren 2...Have One For Me Please !!!...

Trigster, do you need one right now? Like literally right now? If not, maybe waiting for Phil's tank is not such a bad idea. It should be out soon--they said October. It might be what you need. It does look a bit like the Siren, from what I've seen, and it might be better. Can you wait a bit?

Also, have you considered Doggy Style? It's a very nice and ridiculously inexpensive MTL RTA. And FT still has 10% off promo (CANDY) that expires tomorrow. I like the SJMY version, a little looser airflow; SXK is tighter, but they are both very nice.

$12.26 SJMY Doggy Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 3.5ml / stainless steel + acrylic at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Thanks Katya !!!..."Need"...No, but on occasion that inner Little Boy wins and says Buy Buy Buy !!!...It is because the Innokin looks so much like the Siren 2 that it's on the top of the list...And from the Reasonable Man's point of view (talk self into buy buy buy) I'll have multiples and having one sooner than later wouldn't hurt...Also, if the Innokin gets delayed or isn't right I'll be ahead of the game...I am pragmatic...Thanks for the link to the SS Coils...I am going to get both the Kanthal and the SS316...:)...I did look at Doggy Styled and it's a possibility...

You don't need ot but it is handy.
You may want to consider swapping out the screws to hex head.

Thanks corn flakes and 10-4 on the Hex Heads...:)

@sorrynomore I just noticed your new avatar, love it! That was one of my family's favorite games as a kid, we got rather cutthroat about it (LOL, my mom was the WORST) nicely done :) :)

Anna

Thanks...That game is the one my wife wanted to play after she came out of her coma after the car accident (closed brain injury). It was played LOTS in this house at that time (theripeutic for her). When she finally got bored with playing it a few years after was when I started to take up vaping and coming here...hence my screen name Sorry no more. :)

Seriously? Or am I having a 'bad search' day. Was looking for some Kayfun stuff at FT and couldn't find anything at all. Thought maybe someone in the tootle neighborhood would know something about this.

The tanks disappeared. the parts were available yesterday. I saw a post on the FT forum that they will be returning.
