So here's one from kind'a out in left field on the subject of Re-Building Factory Drop-In coils...???...I have a new RTA on the way (hurry up) yet I find the idea of re-building intriguing...In particular the T18/T22 Prism coils...As most of you know I'm a bit of a fan as they're quite robust, good flavor and they last a long time...Even with the Wall Paper Paste that I prefer to vape...Here's a review of the T18 where the guy basically dissects one of those coils...I am well aware that many TP'ers are very adept at fine work...Jewelry, Sewing, Watch Repair and the Joy of Tinkering in general...The "Dissection" in this vid is at time index 08:40...Ya' think I'm might be crazy ???

One thing I do know for sure...Next dead one ain't go'in in the trash...It's go'in to Lab and be taken down to all it's constituent parts & pieces...Maybe my Lovely Assistant Vapesttra will be able to do something with it...

I totally understand and respect what you guys and gals are doing rebuilding these coils, really, I do. For whatever smidgen of sanity I have left, I prefer to work with a rda or rta, even the 14 mm deck ones!

In all due respect, if you haven’t seen the inside of the T18/T22 coil, you will not understand why we like that coil so much.
Go back to Trigster post at 1:25 and go to 8:40 or whatever in that video. Look at the coil.
In the rewicking video she cuts the wicks too short. I tried to post screen shots of the first video to show the cotton and elements, but they won’t load. There is much more cotton in there.
Like I say hard to comprehend if you don’t use the tanks and coils. Not for everybody, but for some highly coveted.

Couldn't Agree With You More ...And my remaining smidgen doesn't have many slices left in the loaf !!!...I'm quite sure my new adventure into RTA's will become at least 50% of my usage...And the rest will likely be new Prism coils...I love the little boogers and at a $1.40 ea. for the life I get out of one they're a bargain !!!...Trig

Oh, I get all that, I even did it for a while. I am vaping some NET juices and if you haven't, they will gunk up a coil faster than anything else. It is fortunate for me that I use them in squonk mods/rda combos and dry burning and wicking is a few minutes job, but even then, it is an almost nightly ritual.

Ain't that the truth! If you saw the picture I posted a couple of pages back, you know the coils I use are not the simple, garden variety ones, they take a bit of doing!

I would never go back to pre made coils. for many reasons.

wrap the resistance you prefer.

Remade coils are hit or miss. Some the wick is too tight and dry hits. Some too loose and flood.

way cheaper.$2+ per coil. wrap your own for 3-4 cents

better flavor

I recently purchased an Ego One and can't find any CLR coils in town (I don't shop internet...Yet) so I bought a pack of the CL coils,out of the five in the pack I've rebuilt 3 so far and like the rebuilds better.

Give the rebuilding a whirl,you may be pleasantly surprised.

That's Interesting To Hear...I watched a vid of a Kanger TopTank Mini re-build of factory coil...Of course the guy made it look like child's play...Ah Hu Right Sure Got It ...But I'm guessing the way the leads are connected at the bottom of the Prism might not be doable...None the less I'm still gon'a rip one to pieces and see what's really down in there...The one thing I do think might be more of a possibility is re-wicking one ???...If I could get the chamber off without doing any damage...???...I just don't know...But I'm gon'a find out if for nothing more than curiosity...I doubt it's something I'd want to do on a regular basis...But if it is possible I wouldn't mind knowing how to do it...Who know how onerous any new Regs. might be...???

When I saw how small the RBA was I didn't think there was a chance my hands & eyes could build on it...Now the Siren 2 however seems considerably larger and I'm getting more confident I will be able to use that tank...Plus I can't completely fail...If I muck it up I know right where to find some help...The Tootle Puffers !!!

I don't know if anyone is still in the market for new Provari, but...if you are, and you haven't checked out eBay lately, you may want to. Someone from ProVape has been listing quite a few 1 of 1 prototype colors and/or finishes they made, on the Provari 2.5 Long and Minis. Also has/had listed some P3 and P3 Classics.

Have messaged back and forth with him, and more will be listed in the next few weeks, too. He also has listings for quite a few extension end caps and some of the SS caps, too.

RTA is the way to go.

rebuilding coil heads is cool but you can't dry burn the gunk off the coil. if you do you will likely burn through the insulator.

but rebuilding the OCC heads were simple. the coil was a horizontal coil.

Position the coil with the hole in the side of the coil head.

pass the rod you wrapped the coil on through the side of the coil head and the coil and out the hole on the other side of the coil head to lock the coil in position.

bend one of the wires to the side.

put the insulator over the single wire pointing up and seat the insulator in place

bend the wire pointing up to a side and plug in the positive pin.

now remove the rod or screwdriver holding the coil in place.

now thread the wick through the coil head and coil.

look in the coil head to make sure the coil isn't touching the metal coil head.

after making sure you want have a short cut the wick flush with the coil head and you're done.

Yup,wrapping coils for my Kayfuns is definitely much easier.
Remade coils ARE hit and miss but when I do get it right and keep it that way I don't find it that much of a bother (for me).

Yeah. Making coils for Kayfuns and Lemos is easy once you get it figured out.

I've rebuilt a lot of PT heads. They are easy to do and better than the originals.

The only other type I've tried are Nautilus heads. I made them with single horizontal coils. They were hard to do and I never got them to turn out as good as the originals so I gave up. Now I'm stockpiling new ones for the day when my eyes and fingers get to where I can't make coils any more, and the FDA decides not to let us buy them any more.

Being able to Dry Burn the coil was one of the things that made it seem like it would make it a pretty good re-wicking...But after Burning I think the best you could expect to do is blow it out...I don't think you could brush...After she got the wicking out you could pretty clearly see what appeared to be a reasonably good dry burning...

As to you Gals & Guys who could re-build a Nautilus or Kanger ...I simply could not do that...Just plain no...
What was that Harry said about a good man's got to know his limitations...I do what I can and don't fight it !!!

And what englishmick said pretty much mirrors my sentiments exactly...Eyes, Hands, FED's...

Now I'm stockpiling new ones for the day when my eyes and fingers get to where I can't make coils any more, and the FDA decides not to let us buy them any more.

Going forward any new tank I buy will probably be an RTA that has a similar Post & Screw set-up to the Siren 2 or the new Innokin...Even if my hands really go South I still think I'd be able to hold the coil with hemostats and be able to lay one lead into place and tighten the screw...I don't see the wicking as being the hard part for me...

I'll still use my Prisms and just stash old coils away for that rainy day we hope never comes...No matter which way you slice it they're still dirt cheap and they work very well to my liking...But even in that worst case scenario re-wicking a Prism coil comes in a far distant second to using an RTA...

Most important is the knowledge I've gained in the past few months...I have great gear that works very well for me...I know exactly which mods/tanks I'll acquire in the future...And I brew some of the finest Bakery Flavor Wall Paper Paste known to man...Bar None !!!...And the Bear Claw v2 is exceptionally good......Trig

Pre-wrapped coils are also available from Fasttech and other places, so even wrapping the coil will not be needed if the hands get wobbly.

I did both...Got some simple pre-made 1.3ohm Kanthal & 316...And some 28ga Kanthal wire plus a jig and a few cleaning brushes...So for openers I think I've got a good place to start...And plenty of good help !!!
