So they are "trippin on drippin" 
Other articles mention toxic metals (which can happen with some metals at TOO high of temp)... that's why we have TC.
So, a nickle (or is it titanium) coil at super high temps and dripping without a wick could be bad. Does the article say which chemicals are an issue? Teens do stupid things... why not stick it right up to your nose and do a "nose hit"? All these fools show up at the ER with third degree burns on their nose and blame vaping

What I want to know is how is dripping done WITHOUT an atomizer? The author said:

Theres also the dangers of rtas, in these new tanks, the coils are buried deep within the atomizer , so the heat generated can reach volatile super heats because you cannot drip to keep coil wet, instead these kids rely on the tanks ability to wet the coil automatically. On top of all this, the cotton can catch fire and if it does, you simply cannot get to it in time. Some use special attachments called glass tanks to get even more vapor out of these rtas. We interviewed 1000 of these ecf rta users and no one had a clue of what the heck I was talking about, so only time will tell on this new vapor rta method that's making its mark on the vapor community
You joke about that, but back in 2013 Doctor Adam Goldstein (his doctorate must have been in Bull S***) was quoted as saying about ecig vapor "It could be several thousand degrees when it hits your lungs,".
Back when I first heard this nonsense, here was my response:
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!! This is from a DR.??!!??!! Considering touching a cookie sheet coming out of a 350F degree oven for a half second can cause severe burns, several thousand degrees would instantly CHAR the persons mouth, throat, and MELT the lungs resulting in instant death to anyone that inhaled it. For comparison volcanic lava is between 1300-2400F. Does the Dr. seriously think anyone is inhaling lava and then casually blowing out clouds of vapor over and over?

We've been dripping since back in the days of the Joye 510 atty on cigalikes - the wicking material in the mouthpiece sucked. Tea bags, coffee stirrer straw up the inside, fluval - everyting pretty much sucked to keep the wick wet. So...dripping came about to get around the poor capillary action.

This is a half arsed attempt to revive a half arsed attempt at discrediting vaping from the beginning of 2017.

Thank goodness all these health rangers for hire haven't found out about us real hard-core vapers. We stick the drip tip right up our nose.

Wait, I only know one person (@stols001) who's been that hard-core, and she had a good reason for it.

But, I made some people curious. They experimented. Some even reported back. LOL.
People have done it, is what I am saying.
It's pretty economical on juice (I think) because also I was passed out much of the time but your nasal membranes are pretty dang efficient.
Now, the final frontier is plugging. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW what that is I would advise not LOOKING It up.
You'd need some sort of auto-express function from the vape though. I can't think of a way to "inhale" down there.

I refuse to be the first. Although my husband does know how to set up a centrifugal drill thing for cigarettes. I am NOT doing it. I think someone else totally should though. Plenty of you engineer types on here though.

Dripping juice straight onto a hot coil was the only way to drip back when cartridges were the only way to vape (pre 2010?). The coil did have a silicon wick and something like stainless steel mesh around it. You'd pull the top off the cartridge and throw it away.
Or you could buy them ready to drip complete with a drip tip:
