Been vaping for several months and trying to get my mom to start vaping. She's a pack a day smoker and open to the idea.

I gave her an ego. However, every liquid I've given her, she coughs. I've tried giving her various combinations of VG/PG and my max VG liquid cuz I've heard some people are allergic to PG. Lower nic level and nothing seems to work.

Any members experience this?

I think a lot of folks experience the coughing. It most likely isn't the pg/vg mix or nic strength. Have her draw the vapor into her mouth first. And then inhale or gently blow it through her nose. There is a learning curve even in the technique. It is a bit different than the way we smoked. Almost everyone that has tried my device have coughed on the first draw or two.

I coughed like a dog, especially when I was vaping and smoking. It takes some getting used to, more so for some of us. Is there a vape bar near you that you could take her to? Early on I lucked into a coffee vape I couldn't live without and so was more willing to put up with the coughing and "rough" throat until i got used to vaping. I also found that ice cream worked wonders in between vapes to sooth the throat from the coughing. Best of luck to her.

You may have come across the only reason for lookalike ecigs to exist. Give your mum (as we say) one of those little cuties to try for a couple of days. It won't be so alien to her, and it certainly won't produce dense vapour so might not induce coughing. On the other hand, she'll get little or no nicotine from it, but maybe a gentle introduction to vaping will set her on the righteous road to freedom from the ciggies. I wish her well.

Cheese...I have the same issue with my wife. I'm vaping almost 9 months and have tried every combination of liquid I can think of during that time to no avail. She inhales the tiniest amount of vapor, ( mouth not lung) and it's barely past her lips before she is coughing spasmodically. Tried lowest voltage setting on my Provari, wide open air flow and least airflow settings..nothing seems to help. Wish I could offer you some help...but at least you know your not alone.

Is it weird that for me lung hits are smoother than mouth to lung?

Seems like everyone is opposite.

I guess it's just what a person prefers. To me, it's like eating food without chewing it first lol. It amazes me how many people do the direct inhale. I smoked for 10 years and vaped for close to 5 and maybe did a direct inhale 2 times. It blows my mind how people do it.

Same exact thing here. I started in 2010 and since then I've given her multiple setups, 100s of juices in every different form imaginable both my diy and purchased, different ohms, power levels, no nic, some nic, higher nic, pg, vg, mixed to every percentage in between, etc etc., anything and everything I can think of and always get the same results although over the past year or so it's been accompanied by a look that wants to strangle me for even mentioning getting her to try something again. I've tried showing the mouth inhale thing with her and she just looks at me like I'm silly. She's even told me a few times after a coughing fit just to leave her alone and be sure and when the time comes bury her with a carton of Salem Lights.

She can smoke 2 packs a day with no problems but coughs like nobodies business after 1 draw on 0 nic flavorless VG in a 2.5 ohm atty as low as 6 watts. I'll still keep on trying but I've come to the conclusion she's set in her ways and doesn't want to quit and until that changes I'll just have to keep thinking and crossing my fingers.

I actually cough if I do mouth to lung. Don't if I direct inhale. It's weird.

For some folks the higher the nicotine level the more they try to dislodge a lung. My wife hacks all over town if the nic is higher than 6 mg. Try a low nic sample and see how that works.
Something else to consider is that some juices just deliver a harsher throat hit that others. A visit to a local vape shop might be in order to scratch her flavor itch.

Maybe this sounds judgmental but it isn't meant to be. I'm guessing she just isn't ready to let go of the analogs. Leave it alone and let her come back on her own. If she's ready she'll figure it out and stick with it until she gets it. How do I know this? A dear husband and son who just aren't ready and just can't be pushed. There's always something like "not enough nicotine" or "I'm missing something and still crave a cigarett"e at the highest nic I can find. I still mention it in passing and give opportunities to try new things, keep the good stuff available to them and sort of stay cool about it. I'm enjoying it so much I can't help but think their natural curiosity won't get the best of them eventually

I hope all the suggestions you have received helps. I can remember coughing some and I think that is normal and quickly passes. You also have to consider how determined to vape that your mother is. It is very hard letting go of an old friend. (cigarettes) Just patience and understand. Sounds like you are doing everything right. Please keep us posted on her progress. I would love to read about her vaping success. Good luck to you.

I think the key here is-Does she really want to quit smoking? I smoked for many, many years and honestly, lots of people who loved me urged me to quit. I appreciated the fact that they cared but was just not ready. I agree with the others-let her see how much you enjoy it, see how much better you feel, make it available to her, be patient and perhaps she'll decide at some point to follow.

The coughing may be her polite way of saying "go away and take this thing with you". If she was really interested she would figure it out pretty quickly. She did it with cigarettes after all. In my experience, trying to get someone else to vape is almost NEVER successful. It has to be their choice and their motivation or it won't work.

I agree. If she is indeed ready to try vaping and the coughing isn't a ruse to get you to push off, then a cig-alike is probaby a place to start. The N-Joy is the closest to a real cigarette that I've tried. Go to the convenience store and let her pick one out that's closest to what she smokes, see if that works.
