I'm new to ecigs.. a few months ago I (stupidly, I know and have come to terms with it) bought the Smoking Everywhere ecig. I liked smoking it, but never felt satisfied afterwards like I do when smoking analogue. Needless to say, it was even more of a waste because I smoked it for one day and then very occasionally after that. It reminded me of nicorette in that while I felt less need for an analogue, I still wanted one.

After glancing through this forum a bit I thought I might be better off with a new ecig and some eliquid (made in the US so I wasn't constantly worrying about what mass produced sketchy Chinese liquid I was inhaling). I got high nicotine and flavored liquid for my new DSE 901. Having tried a new cig, higher nicotine and different flavors.. I'm STILL not feeling satisfied with the feeling of smoking this.

I'm sure people are going to recommend dripping, but honestly.. I'm a little scared to try it and don't want to destroy my atomizer either... any other suggestions (or people who had a difficult time transitioning)?

I've had my e-cigs about three weeks now, I used them and completely stopped smoking. By the end of the second week I was getting a little insane, hrr. Now I smoke a little, whenever I really feel the need, but mainly rely on my e-cig. I figure don't beat yourself up over still wanting to smoke, even smoking less is a positive step.
I guess for me, it's training my own mind in a way, I don't think 'Oh I have to vape instead of smoke' instead I think 'I'll smoke when I need a smoke, but now I'm having a vape, which is satisfying in its own way.'

I'm in the same boat, basically. I find vaping nice, but I want a real cigarette afterwards. For me, I think it's the lack of a harsh throat hit... it just doesn't feel the same. I got some advice in a recent thread which I cannot link to because I haven't made enough posts. Search for "Harsh juice" and you'll find it. Based on the advice I received I've ordered some Atomic Cinnacide from tastyvapor.us but haven't received it yet.

Also, Ive found that I'm enjoying vaping more after I've got the hang of the e-cig. I've been using a 510 for a couple of weeks and it is definitely getting better. Here's hoping the juice is enough to keep me off cigarettes. Good luck.

Yep, I have a suggestion.

Use your PV as something that can keep you from having 1 cig. Just one. Maybe 2. Any that you cut down is good.

I smoked for weeks, a little over 3, while getting used to mine. I had to experiment with the juice, both strength and flavor, to find something that worked well enough that I no longer wanted to smoke. Flavor alone didn't do it and nic strength alone didn't do it.

That and there may be other chemicals that are addicting for you in tobacco that you are not getting from the PV. I know my 510 could only hold off the craving for a real smoke for so long. But that time period got longer and longer until I stopped wanting to smoke.

Some here have never gotten over tobacco. Some use snus along with the PV. Some continue to smoke and use the PV as an alternative. Might try reading in this section to see what some others are doing. Other Alternatives to Smoking - E-Cigarette Forum

Good luck whichever way you go.

I've been at it since late November and I too think it can be difficult. I stared off with the Smoke 51 trio free trial, then I moved on to volcano, which is a little power house, but the batteries only last about 30min. Needless to say my wife still smokes so I may steal one analog from her a day now, if that. My current collection I still have the volcano's and use them once in a while for a quick run to the store, also have 801's 901's 510's kr808's, adaptors are great! When at home I do drip, usually in a 901, 3 drops are good for about 4 puffs, 801's 4-5 dropps depending on the thickness of the juice if it's thick use less.

I just posted this in another thread tonight, so I'm quoting myself. :D

I'm still alternating between the PV and cigs. I normally smoke about once an hour, so now, my goal is to go at least two hours between cigs, and I let myself vape as much as I want between times. Sometimes I get panicky and don't make it two hours, and sometimes I go three to four hours between times, but I'm averaging about half what I smoked before I got the PV. There are many here who report that it took them months to completely transition to the PV.

I think that for at least some of us, there's a psychological dependency to overcome as well as the physical addiction. I believe that I will quit smoking eventually using my PV, but I'm not stressing about it at all because stress is one of my smoking triggers. :D So I'm just going to keep strolling along this path at my own pace until I reach my destination. I do pretty well in the determination department, but not so well in the willpower area. Luckily, this method of quitting doesn't take quite as much willpower.

Just remember, it doesn't have to be all at one time. You can make the transition as slowly as you need to. Sometimes I try to vape first, but I have a cig if the vaping didn't help. Other times, I vape and don't want a cig. And sometimes I vape *after* smoking, because I'm not ready to stop, but I know another cig will make me feel ill.

And seriously, dripping is not scary OR dangerous to your atty. :)

Same boat as you (wanna row? I'm tired) . . .

Anywho my recommendation: get a 5v Mod

I felt the same as you: not satisfied enough to not want a cig but once I got my Prodigy V2 from puresmoker.com I thought: I CAN do this.

I simply do not get the throat hit I need from a 3.7v

I got the 901 adapter with it and use the cartomizers from vapor4life.com - the cartomizers are disposable but can easily be refilled 3-4 times - check out the vapor4life subforum for more help and info - they're GREAT there!

I haven't put any pressure on myself and I still smoke around 4-7 cigs a day but down from 30+ 100 size cigarettes is an improvement I think.

I've also used Camel snus a few times which are much better at cutting my desire for a cig.

Unfortunately the Prodigy V2 is currently on backorder (will be back in stock in about 2-3 weeks) so until then you might want to pick up a 5v passthrough from vapor4life.com while picking out cartomizer flavors you think you might like.

Good Luck!

When I quit real cigs, I just cut ONE cig per day from my routine every week until I was at zero. For example 20 cigs a day one week...19 per day the next ...18 per day the next...

When I got to 2 real cigs per day, it was so painful that I was institutionalized for 3 weeks.

I just got out and now I'm going to get some E Cigs because I am compensating not smoking with alcohol abuse.

No Matter What THEY say...You NEVER lose the nicotine/smoking addiction...it allways comes back and if it doesn't you just replace it with something else...like overeating or excessive drinking.:(

Not everyone can quit and be satisfied with PV as a total replacement - for those who can't but DO want to quit cigarettes (some people dont want to quit cigs altogether and thats fine; its your life) try Smokeless tobacco - E-Cigarette Forum
A lot of people find Snus (the SWEDISH kind, not the US ones) to be the magic bullet, that alongside their PV, kick ciggies into touch once n for all.

I see that you put your location as Boston. I am in Bellingham which is right next to Milford and if you are anywhere nearer to me I'd be more than happy to share more of what I know and maybe help you get a better vaping experience.

Keep in mind that it's just not the nicotine in cigarettes that we have been addicted to for so long but many other chemicals as well that are not in the e-juice we now use. So don't feel bad if you have to have a cig or two (or more) to get you through the day because just cutting your cig use dramatically is a good thing.

I'm in downtown, so it's a bit far from Bellingham, but if you're planning to head to the city, definitely send me a PM. And I agree, if I were just having a few cigs it would be fine, but after a few days of trying to consciously cut down I generally forgo the ecig and just smoke my normal amount.. I just don't find it appealing enough to choose it over an analogue.

otter - Yeah, if I were just occasionally smoking but mostly using the ecig it wouldn't be a big deal. Ideally I'd rather be an occasional social smoker than a non-smoker anyway lol

hbarnwheeler - I think for me it's not so much the throat hit as it is the satisfied feeling that I don't really get with the ecig.. maybe it's also because the ecig doesn't have an "end" like with a cigarette so I don't feel like I've finished something after? Maybe? But yeah, I hope that if I just make myself smoke it more I may find it more pleasurable.

Hoosier - I guess it's all about finding the right mix and cutting down slowly. I don't think I could ever try chewing tobacco though.. just doesn't appeal to me.

Brad524 - Yeah, I would be perfectly happy if I just mooched a few cigs every once in a while. I guess the key really is to try different things in order to determine what works best to keep you off analogues, but at the moment I don't have the cash to invest in any additional pieces and should probably give my 901 more of a chance anyway.

~Jo~ - That seems to be the best idea.. If I concentrate on just cutting down little by little it may feel like less of a battle against not smoking, which will give me time to addict myself to the ecig haha.

yanks21 - When I have the funds that sounds like it could be a good fit. Glad to hear that it's working for you!

MikeDeason - I'm sorry to hear that you went through all that! I hope that the ecig works for you. It's definitely a better alternative than alcoholism. I think if I tried to quick cold turkey I'd either immediately gain 50lb or just spend all day smoking weed. Hope the transition goes more smoothly for you!

CaptJay - Yeah, I don't think I'll be trying snus any time soon. I'm not sure that's preferable to cigarettes to me anyway. Though maybe adding in something like my box of neglected nicorette in addition to the ecig might be more effective...

For some people it's instantaneous, for some it takes a while if it ever works.

For me it took a few days. At first I had to remind myself to vape instead of smoke (and I'd have a cig every now and then.) By the 6th day I was able to not go out and buy a pack. But it was a conscious effort -- I wanted to quit smoking and while I didn't find my PV as good, it was good enough. After a few weeks, it still wasn't "as good" as a cigarette, it was better.

You have to really, really want to quit smoking. You have to want it to work. And you have to give it time.

Actually, cartos can be refilled (especially if you clean them out occasionally) dozens of times, if not more. You just have to be extra careful not to let them get dry or you get the burnt taste that I don't think you ever really get rid of.

To the OP, remember that this transition is more of a journey than a destination. Personally I "forced" myself to smoke a few analogs a day at first, gradually cutting down to one a night for a week. During this transition I learned that I'm happiest vaping at 24 mg (which is higher than "high" by some manufacturer's standards). I also found that my desire for tobacco flavored juices waned significantly and I have a few "sweet" flavors that I really prefer. I have yet to try a 5v device as I'm trying to save a bit more money first, but I'm sure I'll try something other than my KR808-D1 someday.

Eventually (hopefully) that day will come for you where you smoke what you know will be your last analog and you think to yourself, "I wish I was vaping" as you finish off that ..... I still have that occasional twinge of an urge for an analog, but it's nothing heavy vaping for a while doesn't overcome.

Best of luck to you, and don't feel bad if you still need an analog. Kicking them is a highly personal endeavor, and everyone's experience will be different.

For me it was finding a liquid and strength combination that i could smoke just like an analog. I just recently found that the Cool flavor from V4L i can do just that. I can take a regular drag of it and deep inhale which is what ive been missing with the other flavors i tried. I was never a menthol smoker yet in my short time of vaping i have found the menthol flavors to be the most satisfying and craving killers. Something as simple as finding the right combination of flavor and strength has killed any urge i have had to smoke analogs which is huge. Now i feel like im smoking an analog but im not. YAY

Get a USB passthrough without an in-line battery so you can vape at 5 volts. Of course, I don't trust a USB passthrough being connected to my computer, so I bought a 2 amp USB AC converter so I can run it off of an extension cord plugged into a wall socket. I only use a stock battery when I am in the car. Good luck and keep on vaping, hopefully you will transition away from analogs entirely.

I have to agree it is a matter of finding the right combination to suit you.
I smoked for 40 years, 2 packs a day (yes I started really young)

I ordered my green smokes package and within 2 weeks finally quit smoking!
I had tried other methods and failed miserably to quit
,
but when I tried the Blu cigs I had to send them back. Not good for me at all,

I now have a new Vapor King and am liking it. Like my Green Smokes too but they really are too expensive to keep using all the time.

Yup I have spent a lot of money on this new thing in the past month or so, but it has been worth every penny as I no long smoke!

You can do it, it just means finding the right combo for you,
Good Luck!

Everybody is different, that's for sure. I smoked for over 40 years, and became analog free in my first week with the ecig. I bought the Janty eGo, some Janty Ry4 ejuice and some Janty Apple ejuice. For me, that combo was excellent, I totally lucked out. Then I got a huge variety of Tobacco flavors with a huge variety of mg's. (0-36). I discovered that the 24mg (strength of nicotine) is fine for me. I use 0mg for my "just reaching for it out of habit not out of necessity" times. The 0nic is now almost all day already!!! When I do have a 24mg, it feels like a mule kick lol.
Hang in there, get all kinds of flavors and mg's. Don't worry about "chain vaping".. that will ease off too in time. Don't worry about smoking an anlalog .... in fact, I didn't deny myself one analog when I first started. I even found myself at the door with an analog in one hand and my eGo in the other, taking turns! LOL. At first, my eGo made the analog taste better. The next day, the analog tasted.... not so good. Before I knew it, I just didn't light one up in the first place. (except for the "break time schedule I was addicted too. 10-12-2-4-6-nightynight). When I realized those times of day were still a strong pull, I increased my nic a bit a half hour before the clock and voila! No more analogs!! The thing is, the eCig tastes so much better that I found myself cringing with disgust during an analog lol. I was hilarious... holding that analog as far away from me as possible in between puffs. The last 2 analogs I had were only 3 puffs worth. I had to put that thing out and couldn't put it out fast enough.
I'm rambling... but I'm so excited that this miracle has taken place in my life. I can't stop sharing. Hang in there, try different things, do what's right for you personally, and you'll find your way. Like they say.... don't TRY to quit smoking... just start vaping and see what happens. Relax. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Wow! I haven't had a real cig all day!! That's a miracle in itself. Soon it'll be "all MONTH!!!".
Hugs to those who still struggle. Stop stressing about quitting analogs. Relax. The "quitting" will just automatically happen when it happens. :)
