TSA and the Ecig FAQ

Going through the thread and reading all comments I've decided not to bring my PV (a Precise 18650 and a Provari) on board the aircraft for an International travel. However, upon reading related articles, I found out that checking in Lithium batteries (which I have a ton of for my PV's - 2 17670's, 2 18650's and around 8 cr123a's) are banned from being checked in because they can explode...

TSA: Safe Travel with Batteries and Devices.

Now I'm confused whether to:

1. just change my previous decision and just carry on the PV's with the batteries installed and also carry on the rest of my Lithium batteries???
2. dismantle the pv's so they don't look conspicuous, check them in and just carry on the Lithium batteries even if they're not attached to anything???
3. check in the PV's with the batteries installed altogether IN A PLASTIC BAG with the rest of the batteries and just label them "E-CIGARETTE PARAPHERNALIA AND E-CIGARETTE BATTERIES"???

In your opinion, (or expert advise), which option would be the best for me?

I'm flying USair from Charlotte to Gatwick London, so I'll be in airports/airplane/train for a total of maybe 10-11 hours. Here's my plan:

In my checked bag: 4 Ego atomizers, with carts; 4 M401 atomizers with carts; juice and chargers

In carryon: 2 Ego batteries with button guards, in a pouch ; 2 M401 batteries in PCC

In my purse: 1 M401 atomizer with cart, so I can assemble one pv and use in restroom. I'll have a 10 ml juice bottle in the quart baggie with other liquids.

There's a comment earlier in this thread about a TSA agent in CLT saying USair doesn't allow operable pv's on the aircraft. That kind of sounds like something he made up on the spot, but still. So I'm putting one small M401 atomizer with cart in my makeup case and hoping it won't be noticed.

I'll let you know how this works out after May 24.

Seriously I fly all around the world and never think twice about having my pv in my hand luggage.
Most of the time, it's in my pocket. When I wait in line to go through the xray, I usually just take it out of my pocket and pop it in my rucksack front pocket. Go through and then put it back in my pocket.
Never has anybody questioned what it is or even had any suspicions.
I've travelled with indulgence, ego tanks, a bunch of 14500, 18500 batteries. 4 bottles of 15ml juice. Spare attys, the works basically.

Funny I did not find this until after I traveled.

I had a Ego, 1000mah battery, 650mah battery, 2 cylinder atomizers, 3 mega cartridges, 1 10ml bottle of juice, and a couple of paper clips in an eGo case. I just unzipped the case and laid it open so they could see inside it in the plastic tub.

Went through security that way, both ways and was not asked a single question about it.

( but they did confiscate the Swiss army knife I accidently had in my carry on, my bad, not theirs )

Next stop... Mexico... we will see how that goes.

p.s. I have no intention of using it on the plane, or at the airport for that matter, don’t want to give PV's a bad name.

I packed a Provari v2, a Monkeyboxx VV and an Apex Alpha with RES in my hand carried bag and straight through LAX TSA. I went through without a single question or delay. I guess it's ignorance that causes the delays in some airports. When the TSA knows what it's doing, there is no need to ask questions. I salute the LAX TSA crew. ;)

Went through Orlando yesterday was a mad house trying to get through but all my vape gear just breezed right on through. Same was said when i flew down from IAD no body even looked my way. I watched the TSA agents as the scanned it all and the could careless. I did more for the fact it makes it so much more easy to carry. I took a wooden cigar box i have that has 2 latches on the front and put all my gear into that and the fluid on top in a bag so i could split the 2 fairly quickly. But, this thread has a lot of good little tid bit's that can make getting through the check point rather easy. Making it all seem normal gets me through like a breeze every time. My dad gets stopped at least once each trip for some reason but that's a whole different thread. I played nice the first leg and vaped in the smokers lounge, but it was more of a way to show them there is a better choice. I didn't care to smell like smoke or sit in that room any more after that so i just vaped in the bathroom the rest of the time in the airports.

It made me laugh on the plane since this cranky lady got all bent up that we had been delayed. I just used the bathroom and when i came back she was still b&m about not being able to smoke. If she was not so rude to a few people i would have let her go try my spare in the bathroom.

So anyways TSA thanks for not ganking my stash and leaving me be, and for that is was a great trip.

When checking in at the US Air gate in Charlotte, NC the ticket counter clerk saw my omega e-cig protruding from my shirt pocket. She asked me if that was an e-cig and I said yes. She called TSA, and after a pat down I was told US Air does not allow functioning e-cigs on their aircraft. Basically, I had the choice of throwing out the batteries or the Omega. I through out the batteries. Just a heads up.

This is just not at all what you had to do, all you had to do is put the batts in one ziplock bag and the Mod in another, then it is not a functioning unit, Batteries are legal to carry on, so are ecigs, that is a fact.

Will my Reo Mini with the juice in it, battery in it, atty & drip tip on top make it to vegas with me if I put it in the plastic bin along with my shoes/purse/laptop?

Jen. like I said before, Ziplocks, and split everything, these are TSA rules, liquids I believe you are allowed up to 4oz bottles but they must be in a ziplock baggie, and as many as will fit in a two quart bag, batteries in another ziplock bag, and your mods take apart and put in another ziplock bag. having everything split up is how you must do this especially as the rules are all liquids must be in a ziplock baggie

Next month I fly from Kuwait to Dulles. No checked bag, just a carry-on and in civilian clothes. I wonder if I'll get hassled about my Volt?
Plan is to keep it all in nice separate ziplock baggies but stored together in a small Pelican 1020 micro-case.
The charger and USB adapter are all going into another small Pelican case that is dedicated to my iPad/iPhone gear such as power adapters and charging cables.
I don't think I'll get hassled in Kuwait but I bet they'll get paranoid at Dulles.
They usually are paranoid about my gadgets until I whip out the red passport and use the force..."these are not the items you're looking for....move along, move along."

i have business cards that i keep (ya know the ones you get every time you order); i am thinking about putting them in with my batteries, attys and liquid in the bags so if the TSA agent has a question about it there will be a nice card waiting for him when he gets to the bags. i will also have extras in case any of the agents ask if i know where they can get their own accessories ;)

Pack your rechargeable batts in your carry-on.

Should I put any pre-filled Volt cartomizers in my carry on or should they go in the plastic baggie with other liquids? Each holds about 20 drops of liquid within their filler.

Strictly speaking, yes they should be in the plastic baggie if they contain liquid. I'm used to it so I've actually gone through with a 3cc bottle of liquid in my pants pocket.

I've flown quite a bit over the last couple years and have ALWAYS brought my e-cig paraphernalia along. I have yet to have any problems until yesterday flying out of Boston when the TSA x-ray inspector flagged my bag for inspection. Seems the Ikenvape fusions look VERY similar to BULLETS - LOL

I explained what they were and they let me pass without issue.

Yep, been flying with my Ego-t lately and the atties do raise some concerns for TSA. I now disassemble everything and put all atties, batts in a clear bag along with usb charger, other batteries and iPad connectors in the bin.
