Yeah, we've been here since late Tuesday evening. The new roof we put on this place a year and a half ago was a good investment. It's one of the few roofs in the neighborhood that doesn't have any damage. Got internet up and running again late Wednesday. A/C that had miraculously been working when the power came back on about a week after the storm wasn't working when we got here. That took until yesterday to get fixed. Needless to say, contractors down here are running around like headless chickens...

At least some good news then, hope everything from here on goes smooth

wow I'm really going crazy studying and reading about micro processor controlled lab ovens to heat treat and anneal this ultem, been immersed in this for the past few days, gotta have at least 30 hours of research into it so far :)

buying a ready to go out of the box lab oven that is made to be programmable for the ramp/soak processes required to anneal this ultem is just way out of the budget right now, so I've pretty much resigned myself to just getting a non programmable lab oven and then adding the microprocessor logic to it myself, but even choosing the best components for that is proving to be a pretty daunting task, especially since I'm trying to find something that I can get my hands on as quickly as possible. I briefly considered building the whole thing myself from scratch but the time and equipment it would take just makes that pretty impractical

going to allow myself another day of research today, then I'm going to have to nail down some choices and get something ordered that I can hopefully get into my hands this coming week, along with ordering the microprocessor control and the temperature sensors and relays and other supporting hardware. hopefully something will start to come together here towards the end of this coming week. it may sound like I'm complaining but truthfully I love challenges like this and learning about and developing new processes so I'm kinda going nuts while having a whole lot of fun at the same time I guess :)

also just want to show what a combo finish on the black ultem might look like :)

just ordered a nice all stainless steel lab oven with forced air circulation, it's coming from Tennessee. hopefully it makes it here by the weekend but it might not be till after the weekend too. it's pretty heavy and it's coming ups ground :(

now I gotta put together a package for the whole microprocessor controller and all the other things I need so I can rip into it as soon as I get my hands on it... this thing is going to def be cool when it's done, yeah more new toys Bob :D

You might PM @mikepetro , as far as I know he is the local process control expert and carries his work experience over to DIY control of all sorts of equipment he has.

yeah if I run into any snags in figuring out the tuning of the control loop I'll def keep him in mind, I think I seen he did a PID control loop on his espresso machine. this is also another reason why I really wanted to stick with a forced air convection setup instead of gravity convection, aside from it allowing tighter control and uniformity I think the forced air is also a little easier to tune the loop because of much less lag in temp readings which means less problems with overshoot and undershoot oscillations in the control type problems.
