Where do you guys get your kanthal? I've been using nichrome and it seems to give every vape an odd metallic flavor.
Temco, unless I am trying something out for the first time, then pretty much whoever has it the cheapest. With Temco starting to do ribbon also, I will be exclusively ordering from them. I paid like 7 bucks with shipping for 100 ft of 30 gauge kanthal

All good friend, as I look at the pic again today, it does kinda look like ribbon in the pic.
Great info on temco. Also just ordered 100' of 30ga. Hopefully it gets rid of the funky taste the nc wire seems to cause.
Don't take offense but if you are getting a metallic taste then you might have a hot spot or loose coil. I have never used nichrome, so I am ignorant to it
Could very well be. Im planning a re-coil tonight, but it really seems that even on a good coil, the taste is just a bit off
My very first RBA was an A7 & I picked up some prewound coils with it to start, they were Nichrome. I didn't have any metalic taste with them so I don't think it would be the wire. I use Kanthal A1 only aside from then, also purchased from Temco.
Something I didn't figure out until a while after I started: you know Nichrome is lower resistance than Kanthal. 30g Nich = 29g Kan
I just made some twisted 36 and I ohm'd at all the same Length , 36-5.5 ohm, twisted 2.5ohm, quad twisted 1.4. I

I do. I am typically doing 4-5 wraps of NC 30 to get 1.0-1.1 on my dripper and mini. 6 wraps is giving me about 1.5-1.7 on my RM. When I ordered the Kanthal 30, I noticed it is a bit higher res. Will have to cut about 1 wrap off my current setups to maintain the res that I like.
on topic, I twisted some 34ga NC last night for a silica setup and went super tight with it. WHen I heated it up, it just crumbled into pieces. Guess I went far too tight with the twist. Oh well. I enjoy tinkering.
If I'm not mistaken I think the actual heat put of characteristics are slightly different between the 2, might just have to play with it a little to find the sweet spot you are looking for
Yeah. I am having to do that as-is anyways. If I use my meter, it reads one resist level, but my SVD always reads exactly .3 ohms less.
Kinda frustrating since I don't know which to trust. I have been resting on the side of caution and going by the SVD.
