"Even if students violate the policy, they won’t receive citations."

Not much of a ban...

That's not the point... the point is that they consider e-Cigarettes to be of the same health risk as Cigarettes, pipes, etc...

These are supposed to be Educated people ... At least I hope they are, running a Major University.

My school, Hofstra University, banned smoking too.

I vape on campus next to the smokers, and we collectively go about our business next to the "Welcome To Our Smoke-Free Campus" signs. I have yet to get in any trouble. Most public safety officers don't give a damn about what we do.

In other news, the amount of cigarette butts on the floor has quadrupled.

Very happy to hear that... No reason they shouldn't.

But banning Vaping in the name of "Public Health" or including it in smoking bans, is not only counter-intuitive... it's foolish.

Which is my issue with UCLA's ban.

I HOPE that UCLA also includes Nicotine Gum and Lozenges in their ban! I mean, why wouldn't they?

It's only a tobacco ban. They're calling e-cigs a tobacco product which they most certainly are not. I'd bee damned if someone tried to tell me to stop smoking my "e-cig". "Are you talking to me? This is my Personal Vaporizer, not an electronic cigarette nor am I smoking anything." Because lets face it, when was the last time you saw anyone using electricity to smoke an analog?

Sorry about that, according to the SGA here, ecigs fall into the category too. I'm trying to gain access to the document that states everything though. They don't know the difference between tobacco smoke and vapor apparently.

Magna Cum Stupiditas, UCLA. Geeze Louise.

I go to and work at UCLA, and the amount of cigarette smoking has definitely lowered. I think they don't want people smoking "cig-a-likes" because it will encourage smokers to light up. There are still smokers on campus. I have not used my PV on campus yet, but I feel saying "theres no tobacco/nicotine product here" would clear things up. I don't even think campus police know what a PV looks like.

For those who live in places where the leadership is spending so much effort restricting your rights, the first thing on your mind should be where the nearest U-Haul rental outlet is. Get yourself down there, rent a U-Haul, put all of your important stuff in it, and drive it to a place where the leaders aren't so bent on telling you to obey their ideas of what is and what isn't good for you. Live there instead.

Barring that, just pay more attention to what you are doing the next time you enter a voting booth. If you vote for nanny-state holier-than-thou candidates, you tend to get nanny-state holier-than-thou leaders.

I don't think this is a fair assessment of UCLA. First of all, this was part of a student-driven campaign to end smoking on campus because A) Littering, and B) Public Image of our school

Second of all, I think this "ban" (which is not really a ban because there are no consequences) included e-cigarettes from lack of knowledge about what e-cigarettes are and do. Most people do not realize it is only vapor being exhaled. Most people do not understand that 0nic is even an option.

Outdoor smoking bans put in place by nanny staters are ridiculous. If you have a litter problem, what's wrong with a little woodsey owl give a hoot don't pollute campaign? Nah. Instead, let's harass some people and make a law or a rule or whatever we want to vilify them and try to modify their behavior to what *we* think it should be.

riiiiiiiiighhhhht.

If you are a nanny stater who is bummed out about being nanny stated, well.... huh. Not sure what to tell you. It's a free country... a little less free every time the nanny staters get their way.
