This article raises junk journalism to new heights. Two of my favorite fear-mongerers:

...an environmental group discovered 1,4-dioxane lurking in laundry detergent. The chemical isn't a proven cancer causer in humans, but it has triggered liver and nasal tumors in rats.

Because I am such an avid follower of Fox's expert health advice, from now on I will be sooooo careful of what I use to wash my rats' wrinkle-free shirts!

...styrene, which may generate a chemical that can damage your dna. Its "reasonably anticipated" to be a human carcinogen, a National Toxicology Program report notes.

So now I have to worry about not only what has been proven to be carcinogenic in rats, but also what may be reasonably anticipated to be so by some report from some "program" I've never heard of....

(And the nitrosamine thing is getting so effing old...)

ugggggggg indeed! And ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!

Dose show how everything can be subjected to the 'not safe' tag though. If you look hard enough and play about with the data a little anything and everything should be banned "for the sake of the children".
One thing about articles like this is they discredit the real dangers in a cry wolf kind of way as well as exposing the kind of exaggerated scaremongering media indulge in.

Can't blame FOX for writing this misinformation. This is a syndicated article written by Lila Battis for Men's Health magazine and just posted on the FOX site, along with 28,000+ other web sites. ;)

Do you mean this crap... er, I mean this load of misleading, scaremongering misinformation was posted on 28,000 websites? Raises the expression "ugggggg" to new heights!!

PS: I blame Fox for pretty much everything. It's just easier that way... :wink:wink:

I have a soft spot for them because the FOX network reporters were early supporters of e-cigarettes (including segments by John Stossel and Stuart Varney) and FOX affiliate reporters have generally been fair and balanced. The first time I ever saw a reporter question how stupid it was for the FDA to be trying to ban them it was a FOX reporter, too. ;)

I will certainly bear that in mind and hereafter try to temper my whimsical sarcasm accordingly... :)

Why can't we blame fox? They should actually investigate the claims made by a writer before allowing it to posted on their site by allowing what amounts to propaganda and purposeful disinformation they continue hurt people who look to them for solid reliable information. We hardly ever get the real story anymore anyway. It's all about ratings rather than real journalism.

True, but you never see a bad e-cig story on other stations where people then go on rants about that specific network. ;) I know a lot of people hate FOX, because it doesn't tow the political line like other networks, but they are wrong to call it "typical FOX lies" when this happens. In general, FOX has been a better reporter of e-cigarette issues than any other network. So, it is not "typical" for FOX to report on e-cigarettes this way. That's all I was saying. :)
