Good info in this thread.... thanks OP :thumb:. I haven't been vaping long enough to run into some of the hard-to-clean issues listed in this thread; but it's good to know how to deal with them when I get there. The cleaners are cheap enough to go ahead and order one now before I it. Just found a Bouge on Amazon for $22 and change.

I purchased 100 proof vodka (cheap) yesterday to either soak the attys or use with my cleaner. I did not see Everclear. Is the 100 proof going to be strong enough? I haven't been too impressed with the cleaning ability of 91% isopropyl alcohol.

With the cleaner, I think it should be enough. You might have to run it for an extra cycle or so or maybe even let it soak first. I do that sometimes.

Tarnish is a chemical substrate that forms when the pure metal forms a chemical bond with the oxygen in the air (sulfer as well).

It normally will not come off with ultrasonic cleaning which is a light mechanical action; you need a chemical to reverse the oxidation or a hard mechanical action like scubbing with a scouring pad which actually removes the surface layer of oxidation.

There are plenty of solutions available in your supermarket. Get one that can be diluted with water. In conjunction with an ultrasonic, you can then really clean out the accumulated junk in the crevices of your silverware. That gunk is normally dirt and grease which have not formed a chemical bond with the silver.

Does it have to be the Haier HU335W or will any wallmart cleaner do?
Also, Can I huck 5 in at a time or do I have to do them 1 at a time.

Thanks,

Chris

If ultrasonic makes pin holes in aluminum foil it is working.
I always clean several items at a time in ultrasonic.
The most stubborn dirt is the high carbon slag which ruins wick.
Only way I know to reduce slag is w/ high temp.
Dry burn can reduce slag near coil but does not produce enough heat to completely clean the hard slag from wick.
Oven clean is too hot for some atty components.
Dark flavors tend to slag wick quick.

I'm not sure if ultrasonic is much better than H2O boil and PGA syringe flush.

Yea now that I am cleaning regular attys instead of ego-t attys there seems to be less need for the cleaner. I still use it but usually I can just soak in the PGA. I am referring to 306 and 510 attys :D The cleaner is still a great method though and I will still be using it.

I just can't get this method to work. I use Everclear as the cleaner. Follow the directions to the letter. The cartos still come out smelling and tasting like the juice I had in them.

Many flavors deposit slag on wick and coil that can't be removed.

Sometimes flushing PGA through carto w/ syringe helps remove old flavor taste.

I'm waiting on delivery of a cheapo battery operated model advertised to vibrate 6500 times per minute. $5.54 shipped. :D

I'll report back once I've received it and used it some.

I've used my cheapo vibrating cleaner on several attys. I've used 91% isopropyl alcohol, 80 proof vodka, and distilled water. It gets out the gunked up juice and cleans the wicks very well, but deposits on the coil remain. I've got a factory refurbished Steam Shark on the way that I'll try using to clean attys. I don't expect it will do much better, but I'll try anything once, provided I can afford it.

I don't bother trying to clean cartos anymore. When they start pissing me off, I toss 'em.

It's all well and good to put a little effort into extending the useful life of attys and cartos, but when it becomes too much hassle for me, I'm fine with buying replacements.

Stupid vaping hobby... ;)

Thank goodness... I was starting to feel guilty for my laziness. :\ Well, to be fair I'm worse because I'm just collecting the attys I kill, instead of cleaning them. My laziness is in part a belief that I'll screw it up and my efforts won't amount to a cleaner atty (eGo-T attys in my case). I've only been vaping 7 weeks but have gone through a few attys and just bought more. I figure when I have half a dozen or more dead I'll have a major cleaning session and if I have any success, I'll have saved some more money... but vaping is so much cheaper (when you aren't buying new devices) than analogs that the cost of an atty isn't of much concern. I'm saving $130+ per month... that's 10+ attys I could run into the ground per month and still be cheaper. :D

Besides which... looks like it won't be long before repairable attys start flooding the market, and then we'll have tiny clip-on attys like little resistors that fit inside non-disposable casings, for $1 a piece. The rate of evolution in this market is pretty staggering, I think.
