Yea, I only run mine in the cleaner for about 10-12 minutes and the black finish can be scratched right off so I can imagine what an hour would do to any part of it. It seems to be fine once it dries though. I haven't looked inside to see what is going on but its working perfectly so I have no complaints. I am not sure how gunked up your attys are but I would try a shorter cleaning time. Just a thought.

This may seem a silly question, but do some of you soak (overnite?) before you throw the attys in the cleaner for a go? The vinegar idea is sound, a weak acid works alot of things loose, still wanna try the EC in the actual cleaner, since its a 3min cycle.

Then throw the attys in the cleaner and it should help loosen more of the black gunk on the coils?

Am I talking major overkill here?

As long as it is a silver one or something with a strong finish. I mentioned in a few other posts about how the black finish on mine looks like it wants to peel after I run it in the cleaner. I am thinking that its the PGA and not the cleaning action that is causing this but I am not sure. Otherwise, the idea of soaking overnight sounds really good. I was even pondering a dry burn a little while before cleaning in the cleaner to loosen up anything on the coils but I am not sure about it.

I have soaked mine for 4 days before. I had some strong juice that just didn't want to come out. That long soak, followed by a cleaning finally removed it. But I also use 50/50 water and EC to preserve the ones I have that are not stainless.

Does blowing the atty out after soaking/cleaning get the crusty bits off the coil? or have you found the need to scrape the coil with a tweezer or anything similar to break the crust loose? I've seen what vinegar can do on battery terminals (better than coke!) dissolving alot of stuff you wouldn't think at first...

Hmmm, might have to try a bit of vinegar in mine. Mix 50/50 with water? I can't remember what the OP said they used.

As far as getting the crusties off the coil, dry burn is the only thing I've found that works. Blow out - run through the u/s cleaner - rinse and blow out - dry burn - rinse - run through u/s cleaner again - rinse and blow out - ready to use. Sounds like a long process, but it actually quite quick.

Update to my long soak - I had 2 stainless 510 attys that soaked about 3-4 days and I just noticed that the clear coat is starting to come off (well, looks like bubbles under the cc - not actually come all the way off yet). But, this was an especially long soak. But since they are ss, you can't tell unless you look closely and even if it does come off - no harm, no foul. [this was with 50% filtered H2O and 50% EC)

I was always wary of the vinegar taste lingering, which most days is worse than burning atty char smell (but not by much)!

I soak my clearomizer parts in straight white vinegar, maybe I should dilute it? I haven't tried, seems ok using it straight. I soak it anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours, 20 minutes seems fine, if I have time to do it longer, I do. Then I soak it in hottish water. Then a quick rinse in hottish water. Gently squeeze moisture out of wicks. Let set anywhere from an hour, to overnight or longer, then I do a dry burn & work on getting any leftover gunk on hte coils burned to ash & scraped gently off as much as I can.
I've also tried soaking in everclear, vinegar seems to clean just as well imo :)
Also haven't noticed any lingering vinegar taste. Once I may have when I didn't soak/rinse well enough in hot water...& yes, that was kindof nasty, but it only happened once.

I just used a mix of 50/50 white vinegar/water. Don't think it cleaned any better than my 50/50 mix of PGA/water. The vinegar smell didn't linger and I didn't notice any vinegar taste either. I had two 510 tank attys that tasted burnt and hoped the vinegar/water could clean what PGA/water couldn't. Unfortunately it didn't work. I'm thinking they are just toast. Have tried many u/s cleanings and dry burn, followed by more u/s cleanings and still icky. Dunno what happened to them. Just taste like sucking on a charcoal briquette. ewwwww.

Picked up a small U/S cleaner at Wal-Mart today for 28 bucks

Threw in 1 of my standard eGo-T attys that had a pretty tight draw to it in comparison to the 2 newer attys I've barely used.

did 3 5 mins cycles with everclear and water 50/50.

let it air dry for about 6 hours. dripped a few drops of BWB Vanilla in the atty from the battery end to prime. Well the results are pretty awesome. the flavor is loads better than it was and the draw is a boat load better as well with way better vapor production.

I hope i get the same results from my LR attys once they get gunked up =D

I picked up the little one from WM too, but ended up returning it. Seemed a little underpowered to me and I like the idea of being able to clean glasses with one, so I ordered a different one from amazon. I think it was the next step up from the one posted above. This is the one i went with for $30. I figured it is pretty much the same price as the WM one ($24.98+ tax etc) and will be a little handier.

I just wanted to add to this. I got the new one yesterday and had a chance to use it a few times. On some atties, my glasses, and a few other things. This one is MUCH better than the small WalMart one. I would recommend people skip the LA Sonic one, and go for one a little bigger. The one I got is just slighly larger than the WM one, but since it is a single tray design, you can do glasses, and other things. Also seems to be much more powerful, but that could be in my head. Very happy with it so far.

this one says to use just water; is that what you do or can you substitute vodka or other liquid? or is water just as good?
thanks
Had to jump on the US cleaner train - trying this one Amazon.com: Original Bogue Systems .. Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner .... Cleans Jewelry + Optics + Eyeglass + Cd + Dvd with sonic waves + Blitz Gem & Jewelry Cleaner (Concentrate 8oz.) + 100% Cotton Flannel All-in-one Jewelry Cloth: Electronics as money is tight. 22.95 to my door with 2 day delivery works for me. It looks like most of these are exactly same just priced and branded differently.

I'll post my findings.
