it doesn't matter as long as obviously the battery is meant to go into that mod. however some people may be saying this because generally if you are using a pair of batteries. batteries wear down over time, and generally it would be a good idea to have two batteries that have the same amount of wear together (rather than having one battery that dies after 1 day then having the other still at half charge).

If we're talking single battery devices I don't see any issues swapping them around. I do it all the time, or else I'd have to buy a lot of batteries because of all the different devices I try out.

Now if you had stacked batteries and tried to use one battery you were also using in some other single battery device and then stacked it with a different battery that might be a whole different story.

Agree with the paired batteries, I've got 4 VV box mods that use 14500 batteries and the first thing I do is number them in pairs with a paint marker and then keep them together. I use any pair in any mod, just keep them paired.

Also when 1 goes bad in a pair I recycle both, not worth gambling on having the other one decide to go out in a bad way when matched with a new battery.

I use the same 18650 battery in several different mods that require only one battery. Not aware of any reason why this isn't perfect fine to do.

I have other mods the require two batteries and for those mods I keep my batteries in pairs and only use paired batteries on that mod.
