My Protank II coils last me months. I have some that are at about 3 months right now and still going fine.

I do as suggested in an earlier post. I have 5 coils total in a rotation, I take the coils out of the Protank daily and put them in a Tuperware container. When I have 3, I soak them in vodka for a few hours - overnight, rinse them with really hot water and let them dry overnight-up to 8 hours-ish.

No dry burns, no alterations to the Protank and whey they are toast, I put them in the "if I ever decide to rebuild a Protank coil" drawer.

Rebuilding coils takes some more supplies and a desire to tinker with stuff. I have never found an alteration that worked 100% of the time and dry burning has always been a waste to me. You can buy a pack of 5 for like $6 plus shipping...............if they go bad, you can just replace them. Some are duds out of the box but maybe I am lucky, I haven't had one of those yet.

EDIT: If you are going to buy coils, buy the legit Kanger coils. They come in a Kanger box and the grommit (the part between the bottom pin and base) is clear-ish. Knock off coils are the root of a lot of people's issues IMO

Very true,Don't buy clones on Fasteck,Buy Kanger, and about 20% of those will be bad, so expect that.IMO

The length of time a coil will last depends on many things. One could be the juice you're using. If it's darker, sweeter, thicker juice, it could gunk up the coil in a day. I was using a juice that gunked up coils badly. Tried the same juice in a cartomizer and I had to replace the carto about every two days. I stopped using the juice because I wanted to try other flavors and since I've stopped using it, I go weeks on the same coil. I never bother with cleaning or dry burning since I learned how to rebuild them. It's just as easy and quicker for me to rebuild.

Yes you are using too many coils; don't throw them away, they can be rebuilt.

My first few protank coils I probably ran for a week at a time;
after a day or two or three the coil would begin leaking more and more then you have to make sure to keep them upside down because the coil will flood.

Nowadays I change coil by about the 3rd day and put the used coil in a cup next to my kettle;
Every now and then when I happen to boil water in the kettle I put hot water in the cup to rinse whatever's in the cup which would be mostly coil parts, maybe a tank base or two, maybe a tank top.

Every day or 2 I try to put together a fresh tank with a freshly dryburned and partially rewicked coil and put a small amount of liquid in to prime the coil and also leave for observation to check for leaking - I use miniprotank eGo bases not 510 thread so leaving to stand upright to check for leaking is not a problem. I also find I need to test the airyness of the draw; sometimes I have to take back out some of the cotton wick.

I've rebuilt my coils. I just change the cotton wick every time I switch flavors. Wrap a good micro coil and if you're using the right amount of cotton (less is more), you can just pull the old one out and thread a fresh piece of cotton right in. Since wrapping my own coils, I typically change my wick 2-3 times a week if I'm using the Protank exclusively.

Mamaclair, if you tend to get bored of flavors easily, fill multiple tanks with different flavors. You don't want to vape your juice all the way down. Refill it with with the same flavor when you get down to about a quarter tank. If you notice your juice getting a little dark in the tank, vape it down to a quarter tank, dump the juice, soak your atomizer head in rubbing alcohol (until you see brown seeping out into the alcohol) rinse with water, and let dry overnight. After you have washed a tailor-made atomizer without rewicking, you are good for one more tank, two if lucky.

I just started vaping 2 months ago and rebuilding was very intimidating, but 2 days ago I built and tested my first coil on a mini dripper and it was the best thing since sliced bread. Just go buy some wire and cotton, watch a few vids, I suggest rip trippers on youtube he has great advice and such. I will be rebuilding all my coils from now on.

I still remember the first one I built succesfully. After about 10 puffs on it, I had an "Ahhhhhhh" moment when the flavor and big cloud of vapor hit me. I had always thought that the whole rebuilding and cotton thing was just over blown hype. It's NOT!! They work so much better that I have had to cut my nic level from 12mg to 3mg. A 1.5 Ω nano coil at 8 watts is vape heaven, IMHO.

Oh yeah. When I first rebuilt my Kanger coils, I was still using various diameters of silica wick and wrapping "standard" coils with 30 or 32 gauge Kanthal. Cotton wick and microcoils make the Kanger a whole different animal.

I mean this with all due respect but vodka or Everclear would be a more suitable choice than rubbing alcohol for anything other than battery threads and the post.

Actually, I use gin or vodka, but I had folks telling me to use nothing but rubbing alcohol, SMH. In that case, yes, VODKA!
