I have found that this means the company you purchased from printed the trackable shipping label through USPS for shipment. There is also a problem with consistency between all the sorting and postal offices. Not all areas are as conscientious about scanning.

jennlsnoopy - all my stuff goes to Seattle, then Tacoma, before my local Post Office. Kingston is a small ferry town on the Kitsap Peninsula for those that didn't know.

:) Hi neighbor- I'm in Port Townsend just across the bridge from you!

I guess all I needed to do was complain...it's now been updated. Package left Chicago's hub at like 12:30am. I know I could probably drive between Chicago and New York in twelve hours but I don't expect to get it today. :(

This reminds me of the old camel commercial, Id walk a mile for a camel!

Id drive 12 hours for a 510 lol

I have relatives that live in Kingston. :)

A lot of merchants prepay for shipping. When you see the tracking info says USPS has been notified of a package or whatever, that means the person's printed out the shipping label and USPS is waiting for the package to be dropped off by the shipper (or to be picked up).

Often what happens is the sellers print out the labels but don't necessarily drop the package off with USPS right away.. sometimes even 2 or 3 days later. This has happened quite a few times to me. I've bought so much stuff online, this is what I've noticed. So you won't see any updates until the package label has actually been scanned by USPS's scanners, and even then it might not update until later that day/night.. however it will show the time/date when that package was dropped off, so you can see how much of a delay there was from the time the shipper notified you of the shipping status (when they printed the label) to the time they actually dropped it off with USPS.

EDIT: oh, I see Wolf already mentioned this on page 2.... :)

I do like the postal service because they work on Saturday (subject to change in the near future). If you have a good shipper then everything seems to work. I can order from Cletus at Mist-stix late Thursday and have my package early Monday. UPS would be Tuesday or Wednesday and higher shipping.

I just heard about the proposal yesterday on the radio - I can't tell you how many Saturdays I've spent anxiously kneeling on the couch looking the front window, ears perked, waiting for the sounds of the mail truck accelerating and breaking as it stops at the first house on the street....
On the topic of USPS' speed as of late, I've been thinking the same thing - their tracking certainly sucks, but of the packages I've been sending and receiving lately, most of the time I can ship/receive first class w/tracking via paypal to/from anywhere in the midwest or east coast in 2-3 days, west coast and south 2-4 days. I used to use priority on everything (and still do over 14(?)oz.) - aside from the price difference, they both seem to get there just as fast. As far as any other courier, I'm too cheap to use them.
