I agree, I'd dive in head first, guns blazing.... if my wife wasn't going to kill me for spending a bunch of money LOL. I too am learning how to recoil/wick my evod heads (got some pics up in another post) using 30awg and ekowool (so easy, a Borescoped can do it!)

I like how once I'm proficient in rebuilding coils/wicks, I'll at least save some money in that manner, as wire/wicks are cheap to make. Next step would be DIY juice, which my wife has asked me about. Bonus, she makes/sells her own wax tarts for wax melters, and she could even help me do it I think LOL.

The problem I see with having a 'vape budget' is that, in this business, you have to be able to act/react to the short-lived deals that are often presented to ultimately save money. If you wait until your 'vape budget' allows you to buy something, you may end up paying full(ish) retail price for it even a week later. It's a tough line to walk.

So i'm kinda new; Been 'vaping' 4 days now and loving every minute of it, especially the fact that i will be able to breath a whole lot better soon, I don't stink like smoke and get to enjoy all these awesome flavors i'm finding. Thing is, i feel like a kid in a candy store looking at all the really cool pv's, juice's, ect. that i'm finding out there on the web. So here's my question: I plan on breaking it to my wife today that i wanna start a 'vape-budget' so i can finance all these things i want to get. What would you think is a reasonable amount to ask her to dedicate?? I was thinking maybe like 50% of what i was spending on 'analog' cig's.
being a veteran of "recovery" programs, and since they all involve habits/addiction, and since you used to move heaven and earth to keep up with your cigs? the more realistic way to approach the budget is "whatever it takes to stay cig free" so placing a dollar amount on your smoking cessation/vape hobby could endanger success. i know for me part of the cig habit was having everything just so! and that still remains, so if i have bad mods or bad toots the urge just gets stronger!, so knowing me, i started out at a run instead of half stepping. in the beginning money is no object, the saving will come later IMHO

Stuffing pre-rolled tubes with a filter. When I was much younger I tried and rolling and they always looked like joints. I can't really afford to have that kind of image problem to have been able to go with hand rolling.

Someone broke into my car one day and all they stole were the contents of my ashtray. Un-filtered roll your owns. I am hoping this person was sorely disappointed :D Smokes are about eight bucks a pack here. I smoked a pack and a half a day. Technically I could buy a provari entire kit & the e liquid for a month and still not spend as much. There are some great products out there, and lots of stuff to try. Start with what you can, because it is a heck of a lot better then clinging to the smokes. Good luck!

I agree! I would be great to see some sort of program to allow people to donate their old gear or items that they no longer use that could go to those without the "means" to jump into eCigs...Then again, if you can afford the price of cigs these days you should have the means to at least get started into eCigs.

Probably thought they were something else?

if? the program could somehow get managed, (donations for noobs) i already have contributions, but! the nature of the species is to get for free, so some qualifiers would have to be set up.

and yes! get to the point from your pay that you have extra money, than pounce, you begin recovering initial expense with every toot you take!

Not to advocate using analogs... but you could find/buy the little hand held cigarette making tool that Bugler produces.... would be easier.

Bugler Filter Cigarette Making Machine

Would be easier than stuffing them by hand. I had one and it worked well. I'm sure you could find it cheaper if you looked.

Or better yet, spend that money on an inexpensive ego kit!

I think the second option is a better one, if you can afford it right now.

Hope that helps!

My BFF bought us a Topomatic mechanical stuffer. Works great, but still takes time, and wears out my hubs arm too. Plus the tobacco is rough tasting and doesn't draw well. I feel like I never get any throat hit.

Some solid advice newconvert! This is the attitude I've been trying to pour into my initial starter kit. Take the dive and I'll have my money back fast. It might even be considered an investment because of the money I would be saving on analogs.

not to mention futures on less doctors visits for related care

I have the EXACT same issue/dilemma/conundrum. I just started vaping about a week ago. Got a starter kit from V2cigs that we share. her battery was backordered and just came in yesterday so i have had more time to fall in love with it. I HOPE that will change because right now, she's not fully on board.

I want to dive right in. I'm already looking at getting a mod (VAMO looks like a winner) and wanna slap a kanger protank on it. I even have a plan of attack for DIY e-juices. Trying to explain to her that I need to buy all this stuff to start saving money is like trying to explain to a midget that holding a chihuahuh doesnt really make you look any bigger (you just have more chance to get pee'd on)...She's not buying it.

The way i look at it, the longer you put off making/experimenting with your own juice, the more money you have to spend buying "cartridges" from v2 at a much higher price (and probably lower quality.) Not to mention that you can easily burn through a couple a day...and that burnt taste because you cant see into them, YUCK!

In the end, im sure i will save a ton of money over analogs but its the old adage "you gotta spend money to make money." I think you and i are both better off finding a good "setup" that will last awhile, regardless of cost, then start looking into savings once all you have to do is keep it filled with juice. Hope this helps...I'm gonna have the talk with my lady tonight and i'll try to remember to let you know how it turns out. If she doesnt get frustrated and stab me with my own v2 battery! lol

-Well, I hope that turned out all right! LOL ...
Here's a little update on my situation. We got home last night and I broke it down to her what i was wanting from her. At first she did the "You already have what you need/what's wrong with that one? is it broken?" thing so i explained that while this Vgo2 was working great for me that the batteries do in-fact die eventually and the tanks are 'disposable'; and i wanted to get something with a bit more quality and power, and explained how i could rebuild tanks and after start up I would really see a savings and she really didn't seem to grasp it UNTIL i was somehow intelligent enough to pull up this forum/thread and read her all the reply's and helpful information i was blessed to receive from you wonderful people. I could see her mind working as i read!
So, long story short, I received approval for 100% (old analog) budget. Now i get to have the great time comparing/shopping around and whittling down to my final choice and then make my order!
Thank you so much everyone for the speedy and informative reply's. I'm lucky to have the knowledge and experience found here at my disposal.

I TRY not to go over what I would have spent on stinkies.
That being said....I am also like a kid in a candy store and have not done very well with my vape budget. Once you get a few nice toys in your collection, your spending will slow down. It doesn't take anything to buy juice...it's the provari's and the MVP's that'll get you!!!

I have been doing it for 1.5 months and I have spent about 220ish. THat's about how much I spend in two months of smoking, but I have just found 3 juices I LOVE SO MUCH (EC Blend's Dragon's Blood and RY4 and the famous Boba's bounty) that I will buy over 30ml and save money. I will break even in the first week of my 3rd month :( But after that it's all savings once you buy bigger bottles of the juices you love ;D CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR QUITTING!!!! And welcome :D

Great to hear oopsi! I love the part where you showed her the forum. Maybe we'll get to see her hanging around soon? I am especially impressed at how nice/knowledgeable/active the members of this forum are. It's always great to add to that.

My situation? Standby for that. Last night got a little sidetracked with an invite to a BBQ. Hopefully I will get the budget proposal approved by my accountant today... Lol

Great to hear that all of us posting helped explain the vape budgeting for you. In the end, I would rather spend some money now on good ecig gear and juice, than doctors bills in the future. What price is your health/life, compared to a few bits, baubles and liquids?

No matter which or how many ways you cut it, vaping WILL be cheaper than smoking in the long run!

Grata!
