I never buy on impulse and avoid "Version 1" releases cuz they're usually overpriced and have issues. I also wait for deep discount sales. For myself the big diff in savings came when I decided to DIY my juice. Got together with a bunch of converts/ friends and we bought everything in bulk.
Best of Luck.
P.S. when starting out it's near impossible to avoid spending $$ to get setup.

@RoseB, yeah, I REALLY wish I could afford to buy RIGHT NOW! I've been wanting to quit for a couple weeks, and I'm SOOO ready to do it. Just can't stand the nic-fits.
I understand. It's very hard to quit. When I did start with an e cig last year it was a cheap mistic from Walmart and just one battery. Also had some left over nic gum from the other times I'd quit. Check out Madvapes. That's were I go when I have to keep the budget down. They've got cheap starter kits, and very cheap USA made e liquid.

I am at the point where I have spent a few hundred on different things so far, it is hard to compare my budget to my smoking budget as I had gotten my cig habit down to about 70 cents a day by buying my own tobacco and tubes and rolling my own, which my wife is still doing, I just cannot get here to make the switch yet. I do see myself tapering off now that i have a cpl mech mods and a vamo and spinner and a cpl ego batts, now i am just starting to pick up the small stuff, and of course the juice. Also with the juice I only go through maybe 2-4ml of juice a week, right now i just kinda vape like i smoked, when i want a smoke, i vape, when i feel satisfied, i stop till i have the urge to smoke again.

Okay, finally had THE talk with my lady last night and here's the scoop.
1. We were BBQ'ing so her and I just popped open a cold one and she was relaxed and finally "curious"
2. She was slightly confused as to why i needed a PV when we just spent money on our cig-a-like kit
3. She thought that DIY juice was dumb because she didn't want us to have 1000ml of cherry, "What if we want something different?"

So lets tackle these one at a time, shall we?
1.Mood is everything. It would seem that coming into the computer room to find me looking at specs on the provari was a bit of an instant red flag. I had to get her away from the computer that was showing all this pricing stuff. For me, mother nature did the trick. We were outside, sitting on the patio in our patio chairs enjoying a vape together. (This is what its all about ppl!)

2.I explained to her that, while having a cig-a-like is nice/convenient, it isn't very customizable. Less customizable=more cost buying cartomizers that you can't rebuild (I know there are options here, but I also know that if she has to put too much effort into it, she simply will be turned off). A PV let you change your topper, coils, heads, wick, wire, voltage, watts, battery, form factor...etc. And was easier to test/try out the DIY juice that your now mixing yourself. That brings me to...

3. Obviously you don't have you make your buy-in-bulk nicotine base all one flavor, but she didn't know that. I explained that once you have your components, you mix them to the ratio you like, add the flavor(s) you want, then start saving big $$$. She seemed to really start to understand when i compared it to ice cream. Once you have your 1 gallon of vanilla, you can take a little bit, add the toppings you want, and start to find a sundae you really enjoy!

I hope this helps someone explain to a loved one what a great, I'm gonna call it "hobby", vaping really is. Its very cost effective, and healthy when compared to smoking analogs. I wish everyone luck converting all those people who haven't put down the stinkies.

When I started my husband thought e cigs were hokey. We went round and round. Here it is a year later. My itasteMVP is one the way, and a provari is going to be on the way in about 2 weeks. Once he saw that it really works for me, and that I can swing it on the cheap it was all ok. Now I am the one hesitant to spend

Hence the "Vape-Budget"!

I personally didn't spend money on cigarettes due to the fact I stopped smoking way before I started vaping...but I sat down and told myself if I wanted a new addiction I needed to give up an old one. I now use the budget for gaming for vaping. Before vaping I spent way too much money on online gaming profiles...now I use it for vaping. Eh...so yeah.

If you can stick to 50% of your analogs I would be very happy for you! I personally think after you have hardware you're set for this big part so sticking to trying, swapping, and experimenting with flavors you're not going to really spend a lot of money on vaping. UNLESS you're a hardware junkie like most of us become...in that case you could spend 50% easily!

I probably spend...34$ per 100ml maybe an occasional 10$ on a special liquid...but that will last me a couple of months. I do try a few here and there when there's a sale or samples, but I like to stick to good customer service and good prices. So my old budget was 200$ a month on gaming...not I have spent maybe 200 in two months on vaping. So the hobby has actually cut down my spending.

Best advice I can give is shop around! Don't put yourself in a situation where your needing things rushed because your supplies are about to run out. Plan in advance and the rewards are far greater!

For instance, I've got about 3 feet of silica left at the moment. Yesterday I picked up a 50 foot roll of it off eBay for extremely cheap. Chose the free shipping route which takes 5-8days. Not a big deal because I know I have enough supply to get me by until then. Also saved picking up a 100ft Kanthal at the same time/vendor knowingly I would be needing that soon too.

Same with your juices.. I buy a surplus in bulk up front spending $30-$50 on bottles, and while I'm working on my previous bottles I "steep" the new ones coming in which not only helps the juice and enhances the flavors, but saves me a nice George Washington or two :D

It's all about learning your devices, your smoke patterns and how much you're using your supplies. Just a tip or two for consideration. Hope this helps.

Had 4 of us in the family switch to vaping. It has been expensive at first but we are breaking even if not saving money after 3 months. There will always be more mods to buy and I am still ordering a ton of different juices as we try to find those flavors that each of us really like.

I anticipate costs will stay relatively high for another 3 months or so then taper off significantly once our select juices are on a regular order cycle. There will always be the cost of new mods etc but those will be the exception rather than constant spending.

The biggest costs will be up front. Your first devices and a good starting supply of juices. After that it's basically up to you. Some stick with what they have, keep buying the same juice when they're low, replacement heads when needed, that's it. Which is perfectly fine. Others turn it into a hobby and collect mods and tanks and drip tips and stock up on lots of juices. It's all in what you like and want to spend. Vaping CAN cost less than smoking, but often won't. I just like knowing that if I'm strapped on cash for a week or two, I'm no longer dependent on running to 7-Eleven for a $9 pack a day addiction and I have my juices to ride it out.

I often find myself adding things to my online shopping cart and thinking, do I really need this? Then I remember, that's three days worth of cigarettes in your past life, this juice will last weeks, go for it! :)

A vaping budget may be a hard thing to figure out. 50% may be tough to start with but the cost does taper off once You get some hardware and back ups. And once You find juices you like buying larger bottles and save that way. And if you decide to start making Your own juice (DIY) it's incredibility cheaper. Also You can start rebuilding Your atomizers.

This forum is a great place to learn about DIY, and rebuilding so browse the forums and ask anything You may be wondering about, and search for videos on youtube their is tons of them out to guide you through just about anything vaping related

Moon has some wise words there. I'd add to it and go so far as to say don't think about cutting your budget for a few months. Since it's money you likely have ear marked, use that same money to try a few different batteries, atomizers, etc. but most importantly, use it to try new flavors from different juice vendors. As much as you think the HW Costs money, its really in trying new juices that you spend your money. Once you have the HW & a basic juice palette squared away, start cutting down on your vape budget with less and less juices. BTW, when you hear people talking about high end equipment, remember that it's just that. It's like comparing a Toyota to a Rolls Royce. At the end of the day, they both take you from one place to another and you only spend that money because you want too, not because you need to.
