I agree that we should not just pull it out and "freely" blow a cloud of smoke...... people just are not aware that it is not a real cigarette...

I mean sure.. who in this day and age would actually light up indoors or wherever smoking is not accepted and just puff away like it was nobody's business... sure, some vapers think there is a common sense factor that "other people" should just know that they would not do such a thing, that they are not breaking the law or disrespecting others....

but you are disrespecting others if they don't know what is really going on.... pulling a replica toy gun out in the open would really freak people out too, you would not even have a chance to explain that one!!

and, you can't just go around and ask everybody if they mind while explaining that it is not really smoke... sure, ask if you want, they may say ok. but think of the position that would put a restraunt in... even though they might say ok, they have to explain to each and every customer that complains or inquires about why you "are smoking".... now, even though they explain to them it's not smoke,,, they may go home and think, "how safe are they really"???? they start making calls and asking questions to police, doctors, universities, governer etc.... now everone is questioning how "safe" these things are and wants a ban until further studies can conclusively state,,, that vaping is safe for everyone!!! NON smokers are notorious for causing problems. tell them you are vaping to quit smoking, and chances are, they will NOT understand...

It is bad exposure that i believe would hurt the vaping world.... we need to be stealthy

best bet is to stealth without drawing attention,, or, just continue to use your vaping habit, the same as you would cigarettes.... use it outside or wherever smoking is permitted.... we survived when we smoked, we'll survive now...

plus, if you vape where others are smoking, it gives it exposure and maybe a smoker will become interested and ask questions and become a vaper also.

the key to getting the "right" to vape where we want is to increase it's presence, getting more people to use it,,, then we have a voice!

but remember, the FDA has not approved this equipment... and realisticly,, we really don't know if we are causing some sort of affect on others or ourselves. there are no approved tests!

just because the common sense of vaping is logical to us,, doesn't make it true without proof! we really need to have "conclusive proof," endorsed by a higher authority before we preach to others,,,, till that day, what we get out of it is to quit smoking, live "healthier" and have a few more personal freedoms.

I realized this when my son asked me.. "dad, what will that vapor cloud do to me?" I couldn't say 100% that is was totally healthy for him... all I could say was that It didn't have all the harmful stuff a cigarette does...

which made me think about the nicotine content,,, I don't really know, no one really knows.... we need testing done!

just my thoughts, thanks

I'm 50/50 here. Sure, don't blow clouds in somebody's face, but I don't think it's good to hide it either.

I totally agree about the 2nd hand vape. I don't know if others will get a 2nd hand exposure. Sure, it's not carcinogenic, but it still is their choice on what they take into their bodies.

As for the voice part, check out CASAA. CASAA

Just one Oregonian to another. LOL

I vape everywhere in public. Yesterday I was at the local McDonalds ( they have a Redbox and I wanted to see the new Nightmare on Elm Street hehe ) and I vaped while I was there.

People looked at me funny but they couldnt figure out what my eGo was. Finally a woman asked me what I was "smoking" and I explained to her what it was. She was shocked. She had never heard of such a thing and ended up writing down information for her sister who had smoked for years. Other people were listening in and made comments like" Wow that's a real thing?" and " I need one of those for work!"

I vape all the time in public places and have yet to receive any negative feedback at all. I am sure someday I will but so far all response has been positive or silent.

I would have to agree with this to a point. I do vape most places, except anywhere that involves children, such as Walmart, restaraunts, etc. I have 2 grown children and a 21 month old grandson. I have only been vaping for about 2 months now and, coming from a mom or grandma's point of view, if I see any kind of smoke or anything that would possibly harm my grandson, I would be very irrate and ask questions later. There would be a confrontation and it would get pretty ugly. I'm not by any means a confrontational kind of person, but am very protective of the people that I love and have been totally against 2ndhand smoke forever.
But, I do vape most other places, including my college classes, bars, even in my bank's lobby. Most people do ask because they're curious and so far I have had nothing but positive responses

I'm proud of the fact that I vape instead of smoke now, but there is a certain amount of decorum that I think comes with it. As a general rule I will not vape inside public places, but I will vape all the way up to the door. I stealth vape at work, but I asked the other people in my office if they were okay with that. All of them were incredibly happy that I've quit smoking and embraced my vaping. The only reason I stealth is because our office has a huge window that looks out into a busy hallway, and I'm not sure how other people in my company would react to seeing a huge plume of vapor coming from my desk. I will still go outside when I want to vape my head off, and it gives me an excuse to walk away from my computer and the phone. People do wonder why I still go outside because I don't smell like an ashtray anymore and I just find this humorous.

I vape just about everywhere, but would refrain if I felt it was making someone uneasy. I was at Home Depot today, vaping as usual, and had 2 different people approach me with questions, and I took the opportunity to explain vaping to them, and referred them to ECF for more information. I think this is a good thing.

I work in a building owned by 3 other company's. Everyone who asks i tell them its water vapor and i explain how it is pv and then most by then understand, and surprisingly not a single person showed a negative reaction. I do stealth vape in working doors though just because lounging at my desk taking calls and puffing on my e-cig i suppose is unprofessional.

I guess it's a balance - You don't want to be so stealthy that this doesn't encourage others to pick up a PV (otherwise many of use wouldn't be here), but you don't want to be so arrogant about it that everyone turns their nose up at it. I try to be as public and nonchalant about it as possible, and any place that I would be tempted to stealth vape, I simply don't. Where's your balance? That's up to you!

you all have very common sense positive attitudes...

a few "other vapers that i have come across in other forums seem to be rather antagonistic when it comes to them vaping in public indoors.... citing that is not against the law.

there will always be a few.

I too have grandchildren and watch out for my family. I have never even smoked cigarettes in the house... always outside.

thank you for all your comments... i'm glad everyone has had positive feedback. that's great!

Keeping vaping in the closet, except around smokers, also doesn't help improve public awareness.

I take the "ask the manager, and vape politely" approach, "politely" meaning small, unobtrustive puffs. Not stealth vaping, but not blowing clouds either. I've never gotten a negative reaction. People DO understand that it's not smoke, for a very simple reason - it doesn't smell like smoke, what it's coming from doesn't look like a cig, and most importantly, it actually smells familiar.

Who hasn't been around a fog machine by the time they're an adult? And apart from whatever flavor may have a scent (and many don't), it smells like a fog machine. Because that's what it is basically.

People ask, I answer, they are mostly curious and/or intrigued, and some of them even want to know where they can get one for themselves or a loved one.

As far as nic content, it is absorbed before it even hits your lungs by the tissue in your mouth. Your exhaled vapor contains virtually no nicotine. Your son would get a lot more nic from eating a tomato (yes, there are other plants that have small amounts of nic in them).

I was just suprised that while riding in the backseat of the car, only my son in law had a reaction,, no one else in the car even knew I was vaping.... of course, he could have been coughing from something else... they all just decided it "must" be the vapor.

I too have had many positive reactions. most are curious and want to know more. one guy i ran into while in hawaii said he was vaping with greensmokes. but when he saw my box mod, he was super curious because he didn't like that 'his' batteries didn't last long... so, i fixed him up with this forum and some information.

being a 100% disabled veteran, i went to drive onto barking sands navy base while in kauai, and i had my box pv, with a big red switch on it sitting in my lap,, nice move... the gaurd asked with a suprised question about what " it " was.... i showed him, and he let me pass, with appreciation that he learned something new!

yup, all about common sense! happy vaping

I say vape where you want to be respectful about it. If I am in a public place I look at who is around me. If it's kids within 100 feet I don't vape, I also take the quick puff approach and avoid making giant clouds of VG smoke out there, unless I am showing the e-cig to a curious person.

Some places I don't vape at all. Big chain places do not want to have to make a choice about vapeing so they will say no. The manager will not risk their job to make that call. Don't put them in the position where they have to. Small business however often times I have found to be supportive if you ask first.

We should not hide and act like it is bad. That will eternally link us with smokers and make this battle harder to win to keep this product in the states. The more we are seen, the more chances we have get people to understand the truth about e-cigs.
We do have to be respectful of others and act with the understanding that most people do not know about vapor and we may be the ones who have to explain it.

Be proud of the choice you have made, celebrate the freedom it gives you, but be respectful in how and where you use that freedom.
