Out in the yard today cutting down a tree and mowing I came into two issues. The first is "Refinement" I'm not a fan of it after the Dry Hit it delivered to me today. I mainly buy Temp Limiting devices to prevent dry hits but it appears at least in my case the Refinement caused my dry hit. For whatever reason it decided to change my resistance without any type of notification then Bam burn the hell out of my throat on my next puff. I let it sit for a while and it went back to the resistance it's been for the last 4-5 days and I Locked the resistance and it's been consistent ever since. I will definitely be locking the resistance from now on. In my mind if the device wan'ts to automagically make adjustments to key variables it should let the user be aware, something similar to New Atty Yes or No but it didn't do that it just blew out the back of my throat.

The second issue is I've confirmed my 510 is glued and not pressed. I thought that it was being SN: 0104 but wasn't sure until today. So don't put it in your back pocket or put any pressure onto the 510 if yours is in doubt.

Vlad,

I feel sorry that yours came apart. That said go to the hardware store and pick up some real super glue or some metal epoxy and it will never come loose. I use some super glue to nail down some neodymium magnets but I screwed up the location and had to remove them. Well let me tell you it pealed the nickel plating of of the magnets trying to get them off.

I think there is something different about the stuff they call super glue and the stuff you buy here.

And I did use some of the epoxy that is meant for metal on the same project and I don't know what it is made out of but if you glue something with that stuff and ever want to change it you can just forget it. It ain't ever going to come off - PERIOD.

Yea, I didn't have time to fix it the way I'd like but already super glue it back with some medium thickness super glue I had around. I'd like to get a better 510 with a longer throw on the center pin so atty's will sit flush but don't see a way to do it with the available 510 on the market.

If you used some good super glue you may not be able to get the old one out. That is what surprised me about their factory glue. Todays super glue is some pretty tough stuff.

I'd only go this route if they let me keep the "defective" one as well as give me the updated one.

I recently woke up to the wonders of neodymium magnets glued to things.

I need to do some more, I only did six rectangles and they're getting a bit crowded!

I used hot glue from a hot glue gun. I didn't have any superglue at the time and hot glue was more convenient than mixing epoxy, and it also meant I could remove/reposition them if needed. But that's also its major disadvantage: I've had several come unstuck when pulling tools away from the magnet.

Eventually I got large rectangular magnets to stay stuck in place with a ridge of hot glue around all their edges, and helped by their own magnetism against the metal edge of my desk. But I think I will use epoxy or superglue for the next batch.

I'm not worried about it. If it comes out again I'll probably look into tapping it and having a insert made for a theaded 510 replacement.
Not much wrong with two for the price of one that I can figure, better chance of winning than a lottery ticket.

Keep your hard drives away from them, just a reminder.

You can remove super glue with acetone. Acetone dissolves super glue fairly easily. Some nail polish removers are mostly acetone so check your medicine cabinet or you can get it at a hardware store. It also removes any paint that it touches so be careful.
Most household epoxies can be removed with heat. For small pieces I use my small soldering iron. Big jobs require the soldering gun or even the torch. The heat softens the epoxy. The soldering iron easily removes miss-glued circuit boards without damage. There are high temperature epoxies that won't soften but these are much less common. A soldering iron gets sufficiently hot to remove most epoxies. 600 deg F might also damage the surface so be careful and just heat up the epoxy until it is soft enough to remove.
I use both of these techniques all too often in my home-brew mods.

It's now nearly 11am on Monday in Shenzen and I'm starting to get re-worried about the VTBoxee. Still Order Received, not Waiting for Packaging; no ETA visible.

The saga continues.

In the meantime, I'm now looking forward much more to the HotCig DNA200 with Innokin Disruptor-style replaceable batteries and separate wall charger :) Only 900mah, but I'd rather have 2x900 with one charging/charged separately for immediate swap out, than a single larger battery that I have to wait to be charged (or be chained to a cable while charging.)

And with an ETA of two days at FT, every chance I'll receive it before the Boxee ;)

"Other sites" are saying ETA 09-22 and the like.

Oh yeah! Focal @ $145, ETA Sep 22nd. I suppose that doesn't have to mean that's also the ETA for FT, who may have gotten an early batch. But yeah, without any sign of the packages going to packaging, that's looking increasingly likely..

What a snafu.

Hey, they had to fix a bunch of 'em, probably more time consuming than building one.

So I bit the bullet, took a deep breath and ran the Battery Analyzer. Not exactly sure I did the process correctly but here are my results.
Using Escribe default Cell Soft Cutoff of 3.09V and the recommended 40W test power I was able to get about 14.379 Wh before the device started displaying Weak Battery at which point I stopped the test. At the 3.6V which is stated in the pamphlet it hit about 13.579Wh. If I'm understanding this correctly I think I'll set the Soft Cell Cutoff to 3.6V just to be on the safe side and lose a little Wh. Clearly isn't close to the advertised 1800mah which which works out to 19.98Wh according to Escribe calculator. But appears to be in close proximity to what we could expect from a 1300mah. I should state again my device came in with over discharged cells (1.58V - 1.68V) and also slightly kinked so I'm not sure how much damage if any contribute to these results being low. I did't run it in stealth mode so there was probably some energy consumed by the display but I'm glad I didn't as Escribe appeared to just continue firing with Weak Battery while not meeting the 40W test setting.

At 3.09 volts the cells are very unbalanced. Is the lipo still hard to the touch?

I noticed that as well. Seems as soon as they went below 3.6V cell 2 maintained a slightly higher charge while the other two discharged more rapidly. But the pack is the same firmness it's always been with the end past the kink being squishier than the rest of the pack, not sure if that's due to the connections of the wires or what as I've never taken the shrink wrap off a lipo to see where the cells begin and end. I took the side cover off the mod while it was testing and there was no noticeable heat from the pack.
