As for your being in the woods, it reminds me of one of my fiance's favorite stories. She and two other nurses had to give vaccinations at one of those bases which wasn't important enough to have an all-weather road to it. A truck took them as far as it could, and they had to walk the last few miles. Along the way, they saw some footprints as big as dinner plates in the snow. Because of thawing and refreezing, the edges were indistinct, so they couldn't tell what might have made them.
When they got to the base, they asked about it. They were told a pair of tigers were in the area, but they shouldn't worry because there were also plenty of bears and tigers would rather eat a bear than a human.
She says that was not a comforting thought.
