Pri -- love the sun!!!! I just got back a few minutes ago from putting up the rescue tree. It is part of the "festival of lights" in Green Cove Springs, Fl. There are around 80-100 christmas trees that individuals and civic organizations decorate each year. They will light the trees next weekend and they will stay lit until early January. Ours of course is pet themed. There was a new one this year that stood out from all the rest and you would have loved it. I will make sure to get a picture of it after they are lit. It is an angel, Pri with wings, a halo, and the dress is the tree. I can't wait to see it lit up!

So, so good to see you pri and hope you had a lovely, Happy Thanksgiving! So, so good also to see Jerry, Redd, Sun, adl (loved the black stuff), Eagle, Krusty, jj, v dave and all the great things of to much to mention! Love it all as always! Especially love the XMAS and trains and speaking of trains, here's some scenes of the trains we have near us, called the Georgetown Loop! The old Trains loop through the old mining areas of Silver Plume and Georgetown! It's quite an exciting time riding on these old trains and they made and kept everything like original, even the old narrow gauge tracks and boiler type engines, from the 1800's!

From the double album "Jim Croce, The Faces I've Been", released after his death. Jim idolized Gordon Lightfoot. His goal was to become the American Lightfoot, Jim loved to harmonize. According to his close friends one of his favorite things to do was while away the time harmonizing 50's tunes. I like the harmony in this one.

And this is Georgetown and now all restored is just a beautiful place to go and is only about 30 miles from us!

Well I gotta go do some work now but will be back and hope to see ya all and thanks for all! SD

Hi SD. Number 12, the one after the Georgetown loop pic, is an oil fired Prairie locomotive. They were common in the west, but virtually non-existent here in the east.

Dave -- loved seeing the trains and hearing the story. Everywhere I have ever lived I can hear trains. There is a track at the end of the street where I live now. I can remember being a little girl and listening to the trains come through Elza Gate at night. My husband grew up for part of his childhood in a mining town in KY. Everything was bought at Store #1, #2, or #3, using scrip. No cash, just scrip, and everyone lived in company houses. His father was the first in the family to not go into the mines and to go to college. Of course he ended up coming back and working for management... wonder how that went over? There is a train ride that goes down to the Barthell mine.

This is how the downtown looked when dh was a little boy. Store # 1 is the big store in the center. # 3 was to the left of it and # 2 was the drugstore/soda fountain in the foreground. The building just behind the soda fountain was their movie theatre....

The train connection is interesting....

Those were hard times for miners, Sun. Paid in company script, living in company housing, buying from the company store and the miners were overcharged for everything, to the point that they owed the company money, no matter how little they spent. It's a good thing that those days are over.

Yes, my sil used to be a social worker and she worked with some of the poorest folks. Shortly after dh and I had married they were talking and she was describing the conditions that people lived in where she had done work and how pitiful they were... THEN dh asked her where that was and she told him Williamsburg, Ky, which was the nearest big city other than Somerset. She was soooo embarrassed when dh told her where he grew up. No reason to be, his family wasn't poor, but most others were. dh talks about going home with another little boy for a supper of squirrels in gravy on biscuits. He said it was mostly gravy, not much squirrel lol. Ah well, even though those were bad times, there was a lot of good to them too.
