OH HEY FRIENDS! :)
Fully bricked my phone tonight. No odin/download mode, no boot to anything, only blue light.. Tried all the tricks and I can say I screwed myself.. Now to cancel go to another carrier or stick with sprint.. Tough tough choice tomorrow..

Bummer! Thats not a very good way to start off the long weekend!!! Sorry. I hope you get it worked out soon!

Worked out! Cancelled my contract with sprint and went running back to AT&T.. Verizon's contract wasn't appealing enough and would cost more .. sprint will never again get my business and Payin $280 for the etf was cheaper then paying full price for a phone on that network

I'm hoping one day for portable phones like we got permission for phone number portability. If you had a choice of providers and could take your phone from one to the other, prices would get more realistic. Shorter terms on contracts would make that even more attractive. A year should be enough.

Sprint can't touch this speeds at all...
Even in my backyard where on sprint i was roaming, I'm getting 9Mbps which I'll never need with WiFi but still.. battery life on day 1 and 2 I'm not counting with all the setting up but even still I'm loving the s3 on this network as of now.. gonna pick up a Oem battery and a dock over say some Hyperion batteries which over time suck..

Got my first 4G phone a couple of weeks ago, a Galaxy Nexus. Speedtest.net shows up to 21mbps downloads on 4G and about 3 on 3G. My 6mbps AT&T DSL wishes for speeds like 4G. I'm told by AT&T that fiber doesn't make it to my subdivision and I'm too far for UVERSE, so 6mbps is the top plan they can provide right now.

Other than the fact that I get 2G data on my current Verizon data plan and 150G from AT&T DSL, I could use the Nexus as my primary internet provider with up to 8 users on it's WIFI hotspot ability. High Tech is getting higher.

The only downside for me is the 3gig limit.. I'm almost thinking of the 5gig with tethering plan but I'd have to possibly cancel my usenet and something else I hardly use to offset the 20$ extra. The moment I do this though I'll want to download something knowing how I am.
It really sucks that unlimited is gone on the major players and the sprint network is so bad, I wanted to like them so much..

My wife and I are on the internet daily and for long periods. I checked my historical usage and found that I'm only using up to 30gb in a month on a 150gb DSL allowance. She and I both play graphic real time games and post on forums. We use broadband from Dish Network to download a movie here and there, plus the other show rerun content using a wireless connection from our router. We couldn't get by on a 2GB data allowance from our cell provider, but we don't use nearly the allowance from DSL.

I just want fiber to be run from AT&T to where we live. It's coming, I'm sure. Our subdivision is a few blocks from a major highway between cities and fiber will eventually be run along that corridor. It's just a matter of time. I"m on the waiting list for U-VERSE. They'll get it here because they want to sell video services in competition with cable and satellite.

I like the 4GB data plan with Verizon. Cost the same as the 2GB did. The new Verizon share plan doesn't look all that appealing to me; it seems to be great for families with a lot of kids that won't use a lot of data but need a lot of phones.

Yeah if they would of offered me 4gigs i would of went back to them after 6 years apart.. If my girlfriends contract wasnt up in February we would of went for that plan but i couldn't wait another day.. She uses 300mb a month tops..
On the subject of rooting, after my brick I'm staying away indefinitely.. I know what I'm doing but still managed a brick so it's safer this way.. All i want is a phone that streams whatever i want whenever i want. If i decide to want my nexus7 out in the real world I'll just upgrade my data plan for a few months.

But you will. The moment a new update comes out you'll be compelled to do it all over again

Prolly so.

This is my question, though. Once I root the phone, how do I keep track of updates? Right now, I get over the air updates. My fear is that I will miss doing something I should have done, then disaster will strike.

Easiest way is to keep up with another forum...:D
Also, the great thing is sometimes updates aren't always to improve the phone, your carrier can send updates with items they want included or what they want changed. If you're rooted, you can choose what software ends up on your phone!

rootzwiki.com is one of my favorites. Depending on the device xda-developers.com is pretty good as well.
