A few weeks ago, after being inspired by my wife's performance in the 2013 Ride to Conquer Cancer, I decided to join her for the 2014 RTCC.

I have been riding my bike almost daily for the last 2 weeks, and I think that the vaping is having a negative impact on my ability to train. So, I'm thinking it may be time to quit.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I don't ride competively, but moving recently from smoking to vaping has shown about a *30% increase in distance, with no more perceived effort. I kind of believe speed is up somewhat, but not so dramatically. In other words, I cannot confirm your experience. Still, if you can quit without excessive discomfort, why not?

*At one time I reported that as a 50% increase in distance. A tighter evaluation of the numbers on the computer indicates that I was stretching things a little.

3 months after I started vaping I went for a run sporadically, for the first time in years (the years I was a smoker) I couldn't stop running. My lega gave out before my lungs.

Since then - at the points I've exercised regularly - I could go and go and go. This counts for under the sheets to. No wheezing or coughing or hacking things up.

I can't compare this to "not smoking or not vaping at all". Nicotine has some negative physiological effects like increased heart rate, so I'd try not to vape before exercising or my heart rate would rise a little too quickly.
In comparison to smoking cigarettes - from my personal experience the effects in exercise have been huge, as a smoker I would tire out quickly - especially with cardio, I would be hacking my lungs out, dizzy and miserable. On e-ciggs now I have my cardio back.

but no doubt you'd be better off not using anything. And if your really serious about training it might be something to consider.

I recall, and I think it's from the pg in ejuice - you get increased levels of lactic acid in your body - the areas effected are especially the legs. If your noticing a decline in your abilities on a bike - this would be one explanation. The recomendation is we need to up our water supply.

For more info on this I'd do a quick google search or with the forums search tool on "lactic acid and e-cigs"

And good luck in your riding, training and fundraising :D

Up until about 2 weeks ago I was a 40-50 a day analog smoker. The first 4 days vaping I cut down to 4-10 a day and for the last 10 days I have been completely analog free!! I started using my treadmill for the first time in years because I could breathe so much better!!

Looking forward to the rest of my life being analog free!!

As a smoker my riding time was horrible, after being sig free for over two years.... I actually enjoy and look forward to my rides.

i don't feel that vaping is holding me back.... quite the opposite.

My 3L hydration pack is with me on every ride. So i've never felt the affects of PG that Dirty is describing.

I run several times a week, both indoors and outdoors, and I also do quite a bit of yoga these days as well. I was doing this while I was smoking and noticed a MASSIVE change when I started vaping and quit smoking. It was after the first week or so, probably an increase of around 50% lung capacity. I could run for 20 minutes and feel the exertion levels of having ran for 10 when I was smoking.

Can't say I've had any negative effects at all from vaping. Headaches when I first started vaping at 24mg... Phlegmy throat sometimes when I vape almost pure vg. But my endurance has improved drastically. Of course quitting is always a good idea too, not inhaling any non oxygen stuff into your lungs is always best.
