Dear James, I hear your pain and frustration and there are times in life when it just plain sucks AND then there are times when it is easier. You have a roof over your head and food in your belly, perhaps it is time to say goodbye to the roof over your head and the food in your belly and put on your shoes and start walking. I am not being mean James, I am simply saying move. There are homeless shelters, there are food banks, there are jail lock ups, there are adventures waiting for you. You will get hungry, you will get discouraged AND you will met wonderful kind hearted souls along the way. You will face some tough times James, really tough times BUT you will gain much.

Perhaps James now is not the time for the walk but perhaps it is. Only ou know this. When walking, aim for high tourist places they often need dishwashers, or servers, carry only what is absolutely essential, call home once a week, call collect and hang up before they answer so they know you are okay. Consider this idea James, you don't have to do it of course but it is perhaps an option, perhaps head east or west to dip your toe in an ocean. keep a record of your days and nights. Best to you James

I know what your talking about. My mom's health hasn't been the greatest. I plan on when she ends up eventually passing, selling a bunch of my stuff including some old baseball cards and racing stuff i got and just leaving state. Going off on my own and trying to get a fresh start.

James, the problem is that I do understand, better than you would ever think possible!
Now at the age of 74, I also now know what the solutions are ... from experience!

    So think about this:
"Thoughts create our realities, and thoughts are just thoughts.
So if we don't like our realities .... what in the Hell are we thinking!"

I've been trying all morning to get you to think .... positive thoughts instead of negative.
Yet you keep drawing farther & farther into the negative.

I can tell you where those negative thoughts took me.
Poor me .. poor me .. pour me another drink!

I will not patronize you, when a swift kick in the .... is what you need. Enabling simply does not work!

Sorry your birthday started so badly. I hope it gets better.

I've been broke a few times, paying for gas in the car with pennies and such - the $4 vg from walmart sounds like the best option to get you thru the short term.

Have you really tried? When you're so bummed out it might be hard to see ways out of it. Look under couch cushions, under the couch, in the bottom of the laundry hamper, find something you can pawn/sell? Ask friends, family, neighbors if there's any odd job you can do for them for $5?

I am not a dr, I just play one on the internet... but seriously, I think you are depressed, and you may have an anxiety disorder (heart racing, trouble breathing) - I know a bit about both. If it is anxiety, don't think you necessarily need meds, in fact I strongly recommend against them unless your disorder is severe. I watched a family member teach herself to "think away" an anxiety attack, to the point where she now hardly ever has one, and never has a bad one.

For the depression, the "hard advice" given above is good advice. DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Pick one of the suggestions above that involve you getting out of that house for a while and possibly bettering your situation. Staying in a depressing environment 24/7 definitely makes it worse.

    Good luck.

You might want to consider making your own juice. It sure has saved me a ton of money. I started almost two years ago and I'm so very glad I did. After I got into mechs and gennies I was spending $80 a week on juice, and had to do something about that. It wasn't so expensive to start up, and it turned out to be pretty simple once I got down to it.

Here's the half liter of 12 mg juice I made recently for about $40.

how is the flavor west line of flavors?
    any recommendations?

that feel when you have over a gallon of 10% nicotine vg, as well as all the necessary stuff to make it into delicious juice at home, plus like 17 oz of premixed juices.
Tfw you have one mod die and send it back, and your backup mod starts acting up as well.
i have a backup backup ego pen mod, but the last few days have been scary. heres hoping my new one i ordered comes today.

    any recommendations?

For flavors? I just use four of them Re(4)nu, graham cracker, peanut butter, and brown sugar, so those are the only flavors I've been using for my Moose Drool juice, but I'm working up a new juice called Elephant Snot which I've not worked out the flavor mix for yet, but banana is going to be one, and I think I want a hint of tangerine in it.

Be advised, the smallest size you can order from Flavor West is 4 oz.

You would be surprised what people will buy on craigslist. I've had to sell a number of things the past few years when we've run short on money.

Other than that, have you tried a temp agency? You'll need some gas money to get to interviews, but they really do try their best to place you somewhere, even if it's somewhere that you won't be happy for more than a couple days, that couple days can pay your gas for the next round. Temp agencies don't get paid unless they place you somewhere so it really is a win win in the short term.

    Dear James,

I do not think you are lazy.. I think you are depressed. With good reason. But life is how you choose to look at it. It is not always easy to find something positive. But you should try.

I suggest that you get up today and go for a small walk or just find something to do in the yard, even if for only 10 minutes.
Fresh air and a little walk can do wonders!

I think a large part of your problem finding a job is your lack of confidence. If you do not believe in yourself no one else will and it is going to come through on your application and in person. Having a GED does not mean you are not qualified for a good job. My BIL has a GED and has worked his way up at Frito Lay to shift supervisor and makes pretty darn good money with insurance and benefits.
Like you he was not confident and spoke so quietly it was almost hard to hear him.
When you sit down to fill out an application you really need to do so with the belief that you will get the job. Let that confidence shine through.
If you need help writing a resume or doing an application I would be happy to help. Just PM me.
I have helped do all of my husbands and friends resumes over the past 27 years. Something that most people forget is to include life experiences that may be relavent to that specific job. I help hubby do his hiring often.
Also once you get the interview do not say anything negative... (Like how hard it is to find work etc) Keep it light and very positive.

As a side note...... If you injured yourself while working at Walmart why did you not get workmans comp?
If it is a permanant painful problem that prevents you from doing the work you hae experience with, then maybe you could apply for social security?

Something else to consider is volunteering. At a local hospital, park, animal rescue, school etc. Where ever. Doing so will get you out and social and you may just parlay it into a job.

Temping is a great suggestion. When I was young I temped for Manpower and got steady work through them. It's worth a try if they're still around, or an agency like them.

I went into a temp agency 12 years ago with the single marketable skill of being able to type fast. That landed me a data entry temp job, then I got hired full time, then they liked me and saw my potential and now I'm in software solutions development and support. It all starts somewhere.

    Great idea!

We hired 5 of our permanent employees from temps, 4 still worked for the company 15 years later when I retired.
All were hired within a month of their temping job. Excellent workers.

Temping give you an opportunity to show what type of person you are.
It gives you a real shot at selling yourself to an employer who obviously needs help.

So many replies. To those saying I suffer from depression. i mentioned that already. I have been dealing with it for a long time. Your also right confidence is part of it. But it isn't all of it. I also won't go through a temp agency because all the places out here they want to send you to warehouse work and as i explained before, my back wouldn't be able to handle. Don't think the rest of my body could handle it either and I don't want to end up crippled 10 years from now. As to why I didn't get workman's comp, it wasn't an all at once hurt. It happened over the time I was working there and has steadily gotten worse since then. At the time i just loaded up with ibuprofen and just went on with my work. Considering I can't afford a lawyer I always felt I wouldn't have a chance against their high prices lawyers. As for medical, I have tried medicaid. I have applied and been denied. I am to the point I am considering disability though. A lot of people think I am bi-polar (runs on dads side) and might be able to get on it for that. I have read up you can also get on it for depression. I just don't like the idea of being forced to see shrinks or them pushing meds I really don't want on me. Also I would prefer to earn the money I make but at this point, any income would be better then none. Once I get things figured out, whether I find work or somehow else get money coming in, I may look into making my own juice and the legality of doing so in Indiana. In other news I did just get 10 bucks from my mom for my birthday. Sadly it is too late to get any juice and for the best deal on it, it's better to order online. All we got in town is a tobacco store that sells some vape stuff and they are overpriced on their juices. So I will likely stick it in the bank Monday and order. A couple nice people on here are sending me a little bit of juice and the first of it should be here monday or tuesday. If i can try to stretch out what little i got until that juice comes in, then I can just order with this money some juice online and it will take a couple days to get here.

When I temped I got factory, office, and kitchen. No heavy lifting.
