Vaping does not work for me

I see that a number of people have taglines that say they've been vaping for X long and saved Y dollars.

I've spent almost 500 USD on vaping, and vaped a few days in total. That's maybe $200 a day. This is versus regular cigs, about $30/carton, 1 carton/week, call it $4/day.

Here's my experience:

1) Intrigued by the concept of ecigs, I spent $108 at Eastmall.Net on a 510 starter kit plus some eliq in late August 2009. But was shocked to find that you had to re-drop maybe every half an hour, batteries only lasted a few hours, eliq could make a mess, and half the time I couldn't even tell if I was getting a draw, or was something shorting out? In short, it was a ton of work. Ok, back to the drawing board... after some abortive attempts at ecigs and keeping plenty of cigs on hand, I consulted this board here (a fine one! clearly lots of sincere people), and tried again.

2) On Sept. 4 2009 I ordered 2 Proteges and a USB Passthrough from Puresmoker ($220). Smoking regular cigs til they showed up. I figured that now I'd have both some powerful batteries and a direct connect, and at least didn't have to worry about that side of the hassle. And of course hoped the other side of the equation (the whole eliq side) might be better. But the Proteges didn't show up until early October. And when they did, I still couldn't tell if it was actually "on" when I pressed the button (sometimes there was a strong hit, sometimes not, no apparent rhyme or reason), and eliq kept making a mess (shouldn't I saturate it if there's no hit?). Getting disenchanted. Smoking regular cigs until ecigs become smooth and easy. I have money, but I don't have patience.

I also watched Spikey's Intro To vaping. While I greatly applaud her and all the great folks here, my problems persisted.

3) Early Oct 2009, ordered some more atomizers and carts from MyVaporStore. You can read into this, my dismay that mankind can't make a cart, much less an atomizer, that doesn't last for years. $24.

4) Late Oct 2009, ordered more 801 kits, atomizers, starter kits and another USB passthrough (PureSmoker's was as inflexible as spark-plug wires - does USB really use 1000V?), more eliq, total $138.

Still the same old hassle... one third the time it clearly hits; one third the time, can't tell; one third the time, it clearly doesn't... never know why it's not hitting; always a mess.

Tried the pyramid tea bag thing... didn't make much difference except I wasted some Lipton's tea. Although I admit I only tried it exactly once, even though I followed the YouTube video to a T. As it were.

So that's when I quit eCigs. November 2009. $200/day is not my idea of a savings. That may be an exaggeration, but surely it was over $50/day.

I also lent my initial start kit to a fellow smoker, once I got the Proteges. He had the same reaction. "Thanks but no thanks." This was when I was all for it (~Oct 2009) and reading and spending time trying to figure out why it wasn't working for me. We haven't talked about it since he handed them back.

I want a vaping solution that always has a solid hit. I want it to only need liquid about once a week, and for power to be no hassle when I'm home. I don't care if it's an elaborate expensive hookah. All this stuff about atomizers wearing out and having your cart stuffing touching it exactly right means, count me totally out.

I am posting this now because it's far enough behind me that it's no longer painful. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. Thank you for listening to my rant,
RK7

Wow. I use Blu and the batteries only last about a half an hour. Plus I have to re-drop about every 10 to 15 minutes with heavy vaping, but it doesn't bother me one bit.

But... everybody is different. The great thing is that there are so many different products out there in the vaping community. I wish you good luck and hope you can find a solution that will work for you.

Yeah, cartomizers would have been the way to go for you. Thats the way I started off because I read (and watched on utube) about all that fiddling. Its realitvly easy to fill and maintain carto's. The KR808, my set up, has been very pleasant. The cool carto's from Vape4Life are nicer than the regular ones. (Hold a bit more juice w/ easy rubbery tips.) Plus if you get one that gets funky for any reason they're only about $1.50 each. Hell, if you didn't want to play with liquids at all, and spend about $2 per, you could get them pre-filled and throw em' out. But its really not that difficult to re-fill them yourself. I use the carto condom fill method. Sometimes just a top off by a few drop in the rubber tip end. Also, with the KR808 I haven't had any real issues with equipment. They also have adaptors to use your 510 gizmo's with the KR808 batteries and 808 passthrough.

You have to have the mind set and commitment to start vaping and get off analogs if that's our final goal. It sounds like it's not there for you, maybe it's being forced?. You have all these kits but it need to devote the energy on using them, finding their flaws and working around them.

Vaping is not going to replace the ease of buying a pack and smoking them, it requires some time, patience, and support all of which are required.

Give it time, it will grow on you and you'll wonder why it took so long. :)

Thanks, everyone. Really I don't think that power is an issue - if you have a USB passthrough (or whatever kind of direct connect), how can power possibly be an issue?

A third of the time I clearly got a hit, a third of the time I clearly got nothing, a third of the time, I couldn't tell if I did. Somewhere in there was a power issue, but in theory that should be easily solved (but wasn't after spending $500); I suspect the issue is, where and how the eliq touches on the atomizer.

Let's take power off the table; we're only talking about home use, using a wire to a USB or whatever.

What product does not have to be touched once for at least a day? In terms of refilling with eLiq, etc.

A week is what I want.

Sincerely asking,

Mike

I agree with Nagios but also feel a 6v mod with carts would satisfy your vaping much better sounds like low voltage wont give you nearly enough for your needs so I would suggest a GGTS or a silver Bullet with 510 cartos, and on a second not either one of those two mods with an 18650 IMR Batt with the new LR Cartomizers that are no available, they also produce mad amounts of vapor with great flavor. You didn't ever mention what kinds of Eliquid you where using as well, I would try some quality Eliquid at about a 36mg to start and some different flavors till your taste buds agree with one or two of them and then lower your mg gradually when you can. Follow this and if you still dont like vaping then your never going to and your lungs will stay black and who knows what else, but quiting the real cigs is the first goal so you have to spend some more cash to find what works and these mods and carts with the good liquid will dam sure be a good bet.!!!

Frankly it sounds like you are just looking for the ultimate easy.

truthfully there is no ecig that you wont have to touch for a week. The closest thing is the kr808 and just buy the cartomizers for it filled. Then you just throw it away when empty and screw another one on when it is empty.

You have to actually light another cig so this is no different, but you wont do it as often as lighting a cig.

If you get an Ego battery and a 510 to kr808 adaptor you can go all day on one battery
and use the kr808 cartomizers.

That is about as easy and consistant as it gets.

I have to really laugh hard at this because I vape like crazy when I have one of my 4 GG Mods going with my V2 AFS on it, I take it with me for the day and never have to fill or fiddle with a dam thing and just keep pushing out plumes of vapor after plumes of vapor all day long and worry about nothing what so ever. I also have some other great mods as well where I just vape vape and vape all day long and have some liquid that would put away any real cig on the market as far as taste and vapor production, I too started with a kr808d-1 ecig for about $50 bucks but shortly there after purchased my top mods being my GG collection and my silver bullets and some others that are top notch, so I feel for the OP here but man are there some great mods and liquids out today, personally I could never smoke another real cig they just make me sick after vaping for as long as I have. the op is going to have to spend some more cash to figure this all out but when you do buy some really good equipment because its really not that expensive at all compared to the $12 or so a day I use to spend smoking analogs and vaping is soooooo much better. Do some serious research ask some more people here on the forum everyone is so helpful at this place and they are down to earth people as well that will steer you in the right direction.

i spent 35$ on a 510 kit.. the batteries where not long lasting so bought another 510 kit so would have more batteries. enough to make it through the day.. so at 70$ then a passthru another 15$ so 85$.. bought 5 more attys 105$ in 6 months.. then mainly make my own liquids.. runs me around 0.12 a ml.. use maybe 3 mls a day.. so around .36 a day.. made my own mod.. 2$ for light, batteries and charger 12$

119$ in supplies and .36 a day so in the last 6 months around 184$ maybe 225 bought a few pre mixed flavors.. instead of 1065.00

i really fiddled with everything, but i wanted vaping to work, and it has now.but i spent countless hrs doing so.my friend laughs now because he took a hit from one of my mods and was choking on it,he said that tastes harsher than a cigarette case closed.i only fill 3 xs a day,no mess.

there is available units that are top of the line but will cost some coin and you might have to fill every 2 days?ggv2 afs?i would buy that in a heartbeat but im broke.so back to fiddling.good luck.:toast:

You definitely can't put a price tag on your health. The best thing to do is find the right product for you. I'd start but jotting down a list of things you want your PV to do and then carefully analyse the reviews out there.

Do u want lots of vapor?
Do you want carts built in with atomizers?
Do you want to refill your cartridges?
Do you want lots of power?

By creating a small list of what your looking for in a PV you can quickly cross off products that don't meet your expectations.

Happy hunting. There's tons of skilled PV users on here, just track on down and you'll be looked after.

Good luck!

If I had spent that much (I haven't yet) then Id damn well MAKE it work lol Im stubborn like that. I'm not sure whether youre looking for permission to stop vaping and start back smoking or if youre just at your wits end with frustration - the 2nd one I can understand.
The advice given so far seems reasonable - I'm personally not bothered about refilling etc as smoking was just as much of a faff with lighters, ashtrays, finding somewhere to smoke without getting the stinkeye or people doing the fake coughing or feeling like I had some awful disease and needed to be kept away from society. Yeah - compared to all that refilling isnt a chore (I drip btw , don't use carts).
At home Im the only person who smokes so I was outside in the cold for half the year - now Im not. Worth it to me, might not be to you.
Wishing you luck though man.

As mwa said in so many words, you need a modified automatic juice feeding box. It probably won't last a week, but the battery can last a day and refilling is not an issue since you can just switch out bottles (as far as I know). Batteries are pretty easy to switch out as well.
