Lived in SD North County since 1982, so even though not a native, I caught the tail end of the good times ... :toast:

Somewhere it took a mean-spirited turn, with a kind of invasive law enforcement that was not seen here just a few short decades ago ... :(

These days I prefer Mexico. Its gritty and rough-edged, but nobody really screws around with you if you look serious and walk with a purpose ...

And smoking everywhere is practically mandatory ...

At home I stealth vape in public. In Mexico I vape blatantly just to blend in ...

Im about 15 minutes out of LA (SFV) and I've never had a problem vaping. Sure I can't indoors (which I'm actually supportive of in a way), but I dont really care to to begin with. The walk to/from the door is more than enough time to take a few hits, and if I really want to I can handle standing outside for a minute.

I'm also just respectful about it. I use a mech with a sub-ohm build and am just aware of my vapor production around others. And just refrain for a second when someone, especially kids, walk by. I don't need to exercise my right to prove a point. Though it would seem as if common courtesy for others is a lost thing in LA. Maybe it is across the country as well. Regardless, I actually enjoy going outside to vape, it's nice to just get away from everything for a few minutes and watch the world go by.

There are a ton of vapers here anyway, so it's not like its something unbeknownst to people. Though the occasional WTH looks are ever-satisfying.

My only spite with CA is the gun laws. But that should be saved for another time I suppose.

I also don't plan on living here very long. I'd love to see what the northern coast has to offer. I couldn't handle humidity out east.

I am a Tijuana guy myself. Been going down for 14 years. Unfortunately I need an address in the USA. SD was supposed to be the "happy" medium. Now I don't know if I want the hassle.

I have friends and a few co-workers that live in the La Mesa area of San Diego, its actually an independent city, they tell me ...

Seems pretty mellow when I go there to visit, and I've seen more vapers on the street there than I do in North County ... :D

I do think its one of the municipalities that got a "pre-packaged" vaping ban, but probably they just ignore it ...

Dang I didn't know peeps were still going to tj! Is that even safe right now?

Its a touch safer in TJ than Port-au-Prince, Haiti where you can get kidnapped in a 5 star hotel room, or San Pedro Sula Honduras where I have been also that has medal detectors in restaurants 50 yards from the best hotel in town at noon.Really love TJ and in the 90's it was safe if you knew it till dark, don't know now but the info says be carefull/best not to go.

Tijuana was my weekend home away from home after the age of 16 years old.
I don't think it's quite as safe as it was 30 years ago though.

How safe is it now? I couldn't say for sure.
When I go to Mexico now I go to Rosarito Beach, only passing through Tijuana on my way south.

My wife's parents have a condo in Rosarito Beach.
And that's not quite as safe as it used to be either.

Safer than many parts of San Diego ... :D

The crooks in TJ are very easy to identify, they wear Policia uniforms, so you can avoid them ...
The crooks in Tijuana are also very easy to identify by their Los Angeles gang tattoos.
But to be honest, they are probably less of a threat than the Policia, so I do get your point.

The gang members only want your money if you want to buy drugs or find some party women.
The Policia want your money only if you run a red light or stop sign.

I guess it all depends on which you do more often.

When push comes to shove, I'd tend to trust the gang members more than the Policia.
At least the gang members want to cultivate repeat customers.

Never a full time resident , saw the poli gangs run the steets and loved the safety they gave us gringos.Remeber marshall law once there when a pope or cardinal was shot.that was crazy with everyone running hard and fast for the border. The joy of TJ has not been the same since about 2001, in my book.
