They were talking about vaping in jail last night on local TV. I've heard that before, the use of vaping in jails in Indiana has been spreading for a while. Last night they interviewed a jail warden. He talked about the problems that he faces from people who are cut off suddenly from cigarettes, and the black market.
They have specially designed equipment that isn't available outside of jails. I don't know who makes them. They showed several different models laid out on a table. Most looked a bit like Evods or Spinners, but there was one that looked like a larger regulated tube mod with a window.
They let new arrivals use them to ease the transition. And they are also given out as rewards for good behavior.
Apparently the staff spent some time taking various models apart and trying to misuse them, to make sure they were mischief-proof.
Seems like a good idea to me.
Plenty of abuse going on though. I read an article a while back, from somewhere like Florida. In parts of the for-profit prison industry it's become another scam. Prisoners are charged large amounts of money to vape, and the vaping gear is provided by dodgy companies owned local Sheriffs or jail staff. One company was making millions of dollars and it was jointly run by an executive from the prison company and a prison warden, but officially held in the name of some relative who wasn't involved in the prison industry. They got the contract to supply a group of private jails in some sleazy deal.
