I'm lucky cuz my boss lets me tape at my desk. I work for a financial news service company as an editor and my boss loves it that he gets an extra 45-50 minutes of extra productivity outta me due to not having to go outside. He also likes the smell of the fruit mix by dekang and the bluebacko from BWB. So as a result those have become my work hour vape choices.

I vape everywhere.

I don't stealth vape.

I use big, "sore thumb" devices (Provari with Carto tank or an Empire clone).

There are a lot of people who give me odd looks and probably think I'm doing drugs, especially the people who see me do it around cops. No Police Officer has ever said anything…but the people who see me vaping and cops in the same place look like they're expecting something to happen.

And I don't mind talking to people at all……but it doesn't happen that often.

That's the mindset I've adopted. I brought up the drugs assumption in the vaping and driving thread I started based on this thread. I have had that comment 5 or 6 times. It's not a hard thing to explain away though.

Here's a fun story... My husband and I use big ole eGos (well, now he uses a Provari, but that's outside the story), and we tend to vape openly and confidently. So, we were flying out of San Francisco International Airport, and went outside to the smoking area for a vape before we went through security. We were getting a lot of quite suspicious looks from the other people in the smoking area UNTIL (this is the awesome part) a SFO Police Officer (not security, Police) came out, lit a cigarette, took a look at us, and exclaimed, "Hey, are those eGos?!?" So, he came over, and we chatted, showed him our setups, and gave him a couple of business cards. The look on the (formerly) suspicious other peoples' faces was absolutely priceless! Talk about good press for e-cigarettes! :)

I vape everywhere too...even in walmart you can find me under a cloud of vapor.

I was vaping in WalMart lastnight while looking for a more cat-proof storage option for my liquids and other accessories.

Funny, I met a fellow LavaTube vaper in Wal-Mart the other week while in the cat supplies aisle.

I've adopted the habit of pulling my shopping cart through Wal-Mart or the grocery store since it makes it easier to tow the cart and keep my PV in my other hand.

I don't disrespect the unaware by vaping right next to them in an aisle or at the checkout line, or blow a huge cloud of vapor in my wake if someone is walking right behind me, but I generally don't care what people at the other end of the aisle think. Maybe they'll think something like, "How rude of that guy to be lighting up in here! Everyone knows you can't smoke in a grocery store." But then as they stray down to my end of the aisle, they wonder why they can't smell it.

In bars I don't care and they usually don't either, but in restaurants people can be more finicky around meal time so I stealth vape; and will not vape at all upon request.

I carry my LavaTube everywhere with me and vape as anyone would with a smaller device. Aside from seeing the clouds of vapor, there's no way to mistake that for a cigarette.

I don't flaunt my vape. Most people will equate vapor with smoking and it will be off-putting no matter what you tell them. That's understandable as smoking has become sociological taboo. The public is going to have a knee-jerk reaction when they see white clouds coming from vaper's mouths. There's no way around that. I was in a restaurant and some guy was leaning back blowing clouds in the air and it ticked off a lot of people. It made me kind of mad too. The jerk is going to ruin it for everyone just because he thinks there's no "law" against it...YET. That's a sure way to get the voting public to ban vaping in public places quick! So I'm as respectful with my vape as I would be with a cig. If I do it in public, especially when indoors, I stealth as best I can. The future of vaping is on shaky ground and there's no need to shove it in anyone's face just to be prideful. Hopefully, after some time, it will become socially accepted and we can vape publicly without scrutiny. Until then, I enjoy my stealthy puffs in public and blow gorgeous plumes when at home.

i don't vape in stores and stuff. that's just asking for unwanted attention. the other day i was with my mom for her bday. i just go "mom i quit smoking!" and took a big rip in her car. she's been asking me to stop for 10 years since i started. she was like oh my friend has one. asked if it worked and i said i haven't smoked since i got it. told her it was just nicotine and a few harmless ingrediants and she was happy and said hopefully it works and keeps me off the newports.

i vape on line at work all day though. i cook so i just duck down and take a pull. no one cares since i'm not leaving line to smoke or anything. they just don't want customers seeing.

I just had my true 1st public vape today. I was walking through West Edmonton Mall, puffing away on it like I couldn't care less. I did notice some people look at me, but I didn't get harassed or confronted about it it all. I still tried to go to low population areas and tried to blow the smoke out as inconspicuously as I could but as the day went on I got braver and braver.

I even vaped in the middle of a food court with no empty tables. I enjoy the freedom vaping has given me. I am not longer a second class citizen relegated to "smoke camps" I can do what I want while still maintaining my lifestyle.

Edit: \\\feel like this needs a youtube PSY parody. "Vaping public style."

I originally started vaping just so I wouldn't have to freeze my rear off to get my nic fix at work. That is, however, generally the only public place I vape indoors. I try to avoid the smoker ...... stigma association some of the others have mentioned, and confine my vaping to areas where smoking is allowed. This also gives smokers the opportunity to ask me about my PV, and hopefully provide them with a better option.

I vape everywhere, all day at work - when i stroll into shops, in fact i am never without the thing and nobody much notices. I vape in my car and if anything people are more curious than anything.

However i do not do it in places where smoking is banned because most people that see a cloud of anything will assume it is tobacco smoke. It is easy enough to explain what it is, but vaping in such areas shows a certain arrogance and lack of respect imo and since we are all vapers i think it is important that we show it in a good light, as reasonable, tolerant people - rather than 'it's not smoking so i'll do as i please!'

I like your approach. It seems disrespectful to inflict vapour onto others, although I could sy the same about someone wearnig strong perfume but hey..

Like the OP I've also been trying to workout to where its OK to vape and have felt kinda weird about it too (I'm new to vaping).
I live in London and had a sneaky vape on the tube, I noticed a few 'corner of the eye shots' from fellow passengers but it's London baby, no one really speaks to anyone unless they have too, but it felt weird.

The drug association is actually the reason I don't stealth vape.

Anyone who is in a real position to care about what I'm smoking knows what the other stuff looks like. And it looks a lot like stealth vaping.

Vaping openly looks completely different, even from a glance.

And the most I've gotten was "hey, can I get a hit," which is always met with disappointment when I tell them what it is. No one who matters has ever said anything negative.

Honestly most people look because its NOT a cigarette producing the "smoke" they see. It has nothing to do with shunning you they are simply curious as anyone would be. I get asked all the time about my vaping and have spent countless hours discussing it with total strangers.

This is how I got started. One of the bartenders at my dads bar was vaping and for awhile I just sort of tried to watch inconspicuously and then just finally was like does that thing work and then a billion more questions. Thankfully she didnt seem to mind and now just about everyone at the bar now vapes! So as for the whole "un"welcomed attention I actually like ppl asking if it can help get them off of reg cigarettes!!!

Fascinating thread. I read every post. I "stealth vaped" one hit in the grocery store. Other than that I've vaped only where I normally would have smoked, but I'm retired and spend most of my time at home. I think the back and forth going on here between those who vape openly and those who do not vape where they wouldn't have smoked is partly related to personality. Some people can pull it off and be charmingly persuasive, while others, like myself, tend to be regarded as law-breaking rebels even when no law is being broken.

I'm only tobacco-free for 15 days, but when deciding what device to use, part of my intent was to make sure that my device did not look like a cigarette because I know that will make it easier for me in any instance where eyebrows instantly raise, which would include vaping in the presence of family members who live elsewhere.

I am not willing to go so far as convincing myself that I have quit analogs. To the person whose signature says that it's not proper to call smoking "analog", I say well of course it's not but it's dang funny and creative. I am willing to tell myself, though, that I enjoy vaping even more than I enjoyed smoking.

I have never, not consciously anyway, seen another person in the whole world vaping. I can therefore only assume that when people see me vaping it will be the first time they've ever witnessed anyone doing it.

I was out at the bar last night. Pulled out the eVic and hit it. I held it until all the vapor was gone and exhaled. This went on for a while.

One waitress came up and asked what it was. I told her it was my personal vaporizer and that it helped with quitting smoking two months ago. Showed her how it works. Then after 10 minutes or so, another one came over. Pretty much the same routine.

That was it. No problems. No drama. No issues.

I'm new to vaping- day 5 in fact. At work, I used to step outside for a smoke about once an hour. Now I step outside to vape. It's seems weird. Absolutely no one around me does it. I just pretend that it is perfectly normal, which of course, it is. But for some reason, I feel like a fish out of water.... or that I'm under a microscope... or that people are making erroneous assumptions about what I am doing. I sure hope this passes soon enough.

I feel weird vaping in public too like someone's going to yell at or arrest me. I don't know why. Maybe with time and more public vaping that fear will diminish

So I find people judge you reaction more then what your doing. If you have the mindset that what you are doing is normal people will treat you as such. Its odd to hear that health inspectors are handing out fines, I would ask for them to show the bi-laws that included vapor or e-cigs. I live in an area where basically no one uses mods, and I do get a lot of questions, however most people seem to know about blu or other like brands so its getting easier. I did have one situation in a bar where the bartender stated "this bar is not only a smoke free but nicotine free environment." So I went outside where I had a warm welcome from the analog users.
