I just got used to it myself. But now a lot of people at work are asking where they can get one. I went to a concert Friday night and went outside for a vape and it was actually a great conversation starter, lots of interested folks. I find if you answer confidently and are proud of your PV, people react well!

So I find people judge you reaction more then what your doing. If you have the mindset that what you are doing is normal people will treat you as such.

Good point! I haven't really had any harsh reactions, but I have vaped with full confidence every time I've done so in public. I am not trying to hide anything, I'm proud of what I am doing, and I hope to get approached by people with questions.

Just remembered a few specifics.

Bars: If they allow smoking, I vape. If not, I still tend to until asked not to…occasionally, I'll ask first. I've been asked not to exactly once, but they knew exactly what vaping was. It was a fairly large place, and they didn't want all their employees to have to worry about whether it was a cigarette or a vape. Other than that, the only times it's come up were when people wanted to see my device. FWIW, the Twist got the most interest from non-vapers…Provari from vapers.

Clubs: Absolutely. At worst, they'll think it's a drug…which they mostly allow or at least ignore. No one's said anything.

Restaurants: Not unless they allow smoking, which is all but unheard of now. I think it's just a respect thing.

Planes: I'm told it's banned in the US.

Cruise Ships: They said not to except where they allow smoking because they didn't want to cause a panic. Makes sense. Mostly, I did it anyway. People were into their own thing and not paying attention to me. But, I also tended to gravitate either outside or places they allowed smoking anyway.

Malls: Yes. They often have crappy kiosks selling overpriced junk, and I feel like I could potentially save someone from spending ten times what they should on a 510 or eGo setup if they ask about what I'm vaping and why the clouds are so much bigger. But not in the actual stores or the food court.

Individual Stores: it really depends on how much time I'm spending in there and how much I care about potentially being kicked out. I've never been asked to stop or even approached the few times I have. I think this is the only place I even think about stealth vaping.

Concerts: Yes, as long as it's not formal. The most I've had to do was scream at the bouncer/security that it wasn't a cigarette and presents no more hazard than the smoke machines…they generally seem to decide it's not worth their time to argue with me and go about their business trying to keep kids from dying of alcohol poisoning.

Formal Concerts (think opera, ballet, etc.): Only during intermission, and only in smoking areas. Same goes for plays, movies, etc..

Street: Always. Never had a problem.

Driving: Always. Had people ask for a hit who were disappointed when I said it was an e-cig.

Ha...fun thread. I have vaped about everywhere too. I carry the thing in my bra most of the time and vape in bathrooms if necessary. Once vaped while hospitalized under the blanket and in the bathroom...it has gotten me through much! And tastes so much cleaner! Love it. I live in AZ with a lot of outdoor malls, restaurants, etc...have not been asked to not vape. I love showing it to people and giving them the provari website...

I'm pretty comfortable with walking around vaping my cig-a-likes in public. Like someone said in a earlier reply, the most I'll get is a "hey, is that one of those electronic cigarettes?". I also prefer them when I'm behind the wheel (an automatic battery is one less thing to worry about while driving in New Jersey).

I figure the next step for me is getting comfortable with using my eGo Twist out in the open. I guess my fear is that the larger PV might be mistaken as drug paraphernalia. I kinda wish one of the bigger eCig companies would advertise the larger PVs like the cig-a-likes. Could you imagine seeing a billboard for an eVic with a carto tank on it..?

My first device was a silver bullet with a tank on it and an LED wired to the tank! I carried it in a flashlight holder on my belt and i swear people thought it was a light sabre!!

I like your approach. It seems disrespectful to inflict vapour onto others, although I could sy the same about someone wearnig strong perfume but hey..

Like the OP I've also been trying to workout to where its OK to vape and have felt kinda weird about it too (I'm new to vaping).
I live in London and had a sneaky vape on the tube, I noticed a few 'corner of the eye shots' from fellow passengers but it's London baby, no one really speaks to anyone unless they have too, but it felt weird.

Before all trains became no-smoking zones, i once travelled on one in the smoking carriage - all i will say is - holy hell, you didn't need to even light one of your own to get enough smoke! Vaping there would have been easy! (I was born in the UK and know London well). My view is just that there as as many people that will take offence at what they THINK is going on as those that have a right to be annoyed cos say, you puffed a huge plume of anything at them!

Ahh I know how you feel at first I will admit I to felt like a "fish out of water" but as a little time passed I felt a lot more comfortable vaping in public. Yeah you get looks but i noticed that they're looks of confusion and people just being curious. no one has ever given me an attitude but have asked "what in the world are you smoking?" and to dodge the whole thing of explaining in full detail i get to the bottom of it. its flavored liquid nicotine that turns in to vapor. similar to you boiling water that creates steam. there's no fire involved just direct heat to the liquid and all the time people are amazed.

It is aggravating that the county I live in has made it illegal to vape on county property, which includes parks, and grounds near public librarys, buildings. Too bad they don't take the time to find out how harmless this is to everyone around, including me. The nicotine free environment in that bar is also ridiculous. If they were with me all day in a very small closed room I think they would get more nicotine from eating a tomato (It has an average of 7.1 -7.3 ng/g wet weight worth of nicotine).

Adding to my post above. Some of the numbers for vegetables are here, this data is taken from the New England Journal of Medicine vol 329 p437, available here.
Vegetable Nicotine in ng/g g per 1µg nicotine
Cauliflower 16.8 59.5
Eggplant (Aubergine) 100.0 10
Potatoes 7.1 140
Green tomatoes 42.8 23.4
Ripe tomatoes 4.3 233.0
Pureed tomatoes 52.0 19.2
1µg of nicotine is the equivalent of sitting in a vaguely smoke filled room for three hours. A cigarette contains about 7 mg of nicotine, of which 1 mg is absorbed. In other words, 100g of eggplant contains 0.01mg of nicotine, and 10kg of eggplant is equivalent to one cigarette. However, absorption rates from ingestion are low and nicotine is quickly metabolized, so the effect isn't nearly the same. trace amounts of six elements were found in the electronic cigarette vapor. Once exhaled, the e-cig vapor was found to contain minuscule amount of nicotine and flavoring. The primary compound detected in the exhaled vapor was propylene glycol, which is present in many of the foods we eat has been deemed safe by the FDA.
Sorry
 for getting up on the soap box, this ignorance just ticks me off!

i recently got an elips and that's the perfect stealth vaping machine!
doesn't look like a cigarette or drug paraphernalia, it's super small --about the size of two regular cigarettes side by side and the only LED is on the button which can be easily covered when you press it. and best of all it produces much more vapor than a cigarette style e-cig.
this has quickly become my "public pv"

I've only gotten back into this for a few days but my rule of thumb...

Outdoors: I vape openly. In fact, my school has certain smoking areas but I've vaped all over campus. Campus police would kick out my friends who are smoking analogs but leave me alone when they see my eGo.

Indoors: I stealth vape. I just don't want to deal with people freaking out.

Restaurants: I don't vape at all. If I'm craving, I'll do a quick stealth vape and wait until the vapor has COMPLETELY dissipated before breathing out. I don't want to be rude to other patrons. While it seems like second hand vape is safe, it still tends to smell.

I vape in my work and home mostly. When I am out and about I vape but people dont know much out it here in canada so they get a little touchy when you smoke in stores or in a resturant or even some bars but so far I stop when some asks me and try to explan it to them. Sometimes they can be really cool and will listen to what its all about and well.. sometimes they think I am pretching to them lol, but really vape where you want to vape and where you feel happy. People can say or look at you like a weirdo but think of what the cig is doing to them and what your one life style change of switchign to a e-cig is doing for you.

Vape free and Happy

I'm still pretty new to vaping, but so far, aside from the gym, I've been vaping wherever I want. Once in a while someone will look at me funny, depending on what I'm using at the time.

If it happens to be on one of those occasions that my jacket and shirt ride up and I fail to check for it, of if I'm not wearing a jacket and I'm printing, my S&W 9mm usually draws any attention away from the fact that I'm vaping. Odd.

Update on my original post... So here it is almost 2 weeks later and I am getting more comfortable with stepping outside at work every hour or so and getting my e-juice groove on. No one really seems to notice (or care) which is just fine by me. In a way I feel like I'm ahead of the curve and it is just a matter of time before I run into other people like myself who are trying to transition away from tobacco. Analog free since March 2nd.
