Many on ECF (myself included) vape just about anywhere. In a resturant or sports bar I show my PV to the server or manager and explain that it emits mostly oderless water vapor. If they would rather I don't vape, I respect that. I don't go back there but I respect their wishes. The majority of places in my experience are fine with it. I make it a point to not blow large vapor clouds all over the place. My vaping in non-smoking areas has started many a good conversation and allowed me to get smokers interested in transitioning to vaping. It helps that my PV looks nothing like an analog. It also gets the uninformed aware that vaping is NOT smoking.

That's as good as it gets; touches all the bases.......

I stealth vape when I'm in a public place; that's why I made the Mini Movie Mod; I can stealth vape it ANYWHERE.

I am the kind of person who likes to test the waters. So far I have vaped everywhere I go. I am making a check list of places that allow vaping. As a matter of fact, I seen a lady on Mother's Day at a restaurant walking out with one in her mouth. The manager said, "wait, Wait you can't smo... Okay have a good day." So, people know and usually don't have a problem with anyone. I like educating people as well. Here is my thing, if you don't want to teach people don't do it. Because, the likelyhood of someone asking is going to want to know.

I haven't been vaping for long, but one of the best things I've found about it is the ability to 'smoke' just about anywhere. The stigma is gone, and it really helps spread the word. For instance, what really got me personally wanting to switch from Analogs to E-Cigs was when I saw a man vaping after the security line at the municipal courthouse. He put it through the metal detector (obviously) and when it came out on the other end the Police Officer asked him about it. He explained what it was, and took a drag right there in front of two Officers in a COURTHOUSE to emphasize his point of it not lingering or having a smell. The Officers LOVED it, and I was intrigued.

I was converted by a public display of vaping, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Don't be rude about it, but don't be ashamed either! It's the next generation baby.

This is such an awesome thread!! Im definitely subscribing...

Im pretty self-conscious about vaping in public, too... most of my close friends know, so I'll vape around them. If it is a smaller gathering, I'll whip out my PV... but if there are a lot of people around, I just don't want the extra attention. I dont usually vape in public, either... restaurants, bars, work, etc... I do a lot of stealth vaping : )

My thought on this is, although it's NOT illegal, the more people that vape indoors in highly public places, the more chance we have of causing vaping to get outlawed.

Bear with me on my reasoning.

Most people who are behind banning smoking are either Ex-smokers, or miserable little people within nothing better to do than step on other peoples rights. So the more of the latter that see people vaping where you can't smoke tobacco, the more I feel they will jump on the anti-vaping bandwagon and work towards banning vaping and worse yet, regulating it!

Buzzworthy, In a sense I agree with you. I do feel that idiotic decision making will prevail due to their uneducated will power to ban or regulate. I think the Ecig community should pitch together a 30 minute televised informational a a video. And broadcast this nation wide. This should have been done before the 25th of this month. So, now with the FDA we might not get the opportunity to do so. If it is possible, we can start a donation to help get the educated scientist and the companies with documentation out there to say, hey this is a product that WILL NOT cause harm to the user and others around them. That, hey this will help peoples chance of living longer even if they quit now after 47 years of conventional smoking. Nicotine, is not only an addictive ingredient but a wager on someone's ability to make logical decisions for those who have smoked and become addicted. For those who have smoked and stopped without alternatives, I applaud them in their efforts to continue the fight. Everyone else who has finally found the e-cigarette to be a great alternative, should not be public punished. The point for the government to ban conventional cigarettes in public places was for the protection of those stand-bys. However, there is NO ground for them to interfere with something that isn't harmful. Not you buzzworthy, but others also say, well this shows children it's okay to use ecigs. This is no worse than people drinking alcohol in a family oriented environment. I think a infomercial if you will, would help greatly. Thanks for reading my rant. Happy Vaping!

I thought it would be a good idea to vape in my lecture hall, ended up getting kicked out of class haha. Teacher had no idea what it was and just freaked out.

I wouldn't have kicked you out of my class if you had vaped, but if you had an attitude about it that might cross the line. I probably would have suggested that you stealth vaped during my lecture. Most colleges have rules against food and drinks in the lecture halls. I'll vape in my office but never when I'm lecturing.

I completely disagree with some of the sentiments expressed here. Yes, if you insist on vaping something that looks like a cigarette like so many that won't even use an eGo in public, people will think you're smoking or you are mimicking smoking. What the heck do you expect? People don't like smoking and they'll want to ban vaping. If you use something that doesn't even resemble a cigarette, people will know you aren't smoking and there's no issue. There's no reason to hide it. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

It's like that restaurant manager I spoke with last night. When was vaping a problem in that restaurant? When someone used a PV that looked like a cigarette. My box mod was no problem at all.

I was in a subway restaurant today vaping when a police officer walked in. He barely glanced between the huge cloud I breathed out and my PV and then he didn't look again. I would assume he must have known what it was to look so uninterested in it but where I am I don't ever run into fellow ecig users. But at the same time, when I was feeling particularly reckless a couple weeks ago, I walked through a mall using it and had a lot of employees giving me strange looks and a security guard approach me. Before he said anything I put it in my pocket (My favorite way of instantly satisfying people to the fact that nothing is lit or burning) he just ended up walking the other way after a slightly longer then usual look at me. My personal opinion is if youre worried about getting trouble from a specific person in a specific place then you should go up to that person and give them a quick and personal demonstration of it so no one embaresses themselves by causing a scene. Because if they come up to you and flip out in front of a bunch of people and then you explain what it is they'll end up feeling stupid and are a lot more likely to give you trouble afterward anyways. Have fun, and don't use it in elevators with other people. TRUST ME THAT IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA.

I've seen several people in this thread say they wont do it until it's more commonplace. To them I say, there's only one way to make it commonplace, that's to just do it. The worst that can happen, is your asked to stop. The best, you turn a smoker into a vapor. I'm not an evangelist for Jesus Christ. I'm not going to ride people until they quit smoking cigs. But, I will tell them what I know when a conversation ensues. In less than a week I stopped wheezing. In less than a month, I stopped hacking in the mornings. Now that I'm filling with different flavors, I'm really enjoying it.

I use mine in public all the time. I've been stopped by the police once who thought it was something illegal when I was vaping on the way to work. A 15 minute interrogation later they let me go after I showed them what it was, explained what's in it and denied doing anything illegal at least 20 times. My e-cig looks nothing like a cigarette so I get some funny looks sometimes. I keep very much to myself and really don't care if they stare.

Once I thought some guy was going to fall over with how bent over he was to look at it as I walked by. His eyeline was at my hip where I had my e-cig in hand! Made me laugh a little. I haven't had a chance to even try to use it in restraunts or pubs or anything but if I was going to I'd definately ask about it or show them first simply because I know no one here has one but me and they'd definately raise an eyebrow.

The only advice I can give you is just bite the bullet about using it in public. Either you'll get no reaction or someone will ask about it and either way it's really no big deal. Prepare yourself for if anyone asks about it, like a quick 3 sentence explanation of what it is and why it's better that you're using it. Sure came in handy for me when the police pulled me up!

I've been very interested in this thread.

I admit, I very much am a creature of habit. I have to force myself to break them, so bear with me here. I can remember when the smoking ban hit my local area, and it ruined a lot of good businesses. I can also remember having to immediately change my habits which wasn't easy. One of the reasons the pv works so well for me, is simply I can vape and I don't feel deprived. That being said after reading these posts, I've decided to attempt to break another old habit.

My girlfriend quit smoking cold turkey, and shes not miserable, nor is she angry. She doesn't really even notice my vaping, though she reluctantly put up with my smoking. She prefers now that I have a choice, that I just do not smoke. I would say though that stereotyping people based on whether they smoke, vape, or do neither is probably a bad practice. The missing link for a lot of people is education, and being forced to make decisions on things they really do not have any exposure to. I agree some people are just jerks, but I try to believe that is not the majority and that I prefer to be naive if that is the case.

So after reading people post, I'm going to break a habit, and start attempting to vape indoors. I figure if my girlfriend can deal with it, so can the public. If I'm asked to stop vaping, then I will as requested, but until then I think people do need more exposure to it. If I'm asked to stop smoking I will inform them I am not smoking, and see what happens. My trip to Giant to go grocery shopping I decided to vape indoors the whole time, and nobody said a word about it.

I still admit old habits are hard to break, but I did quit smoking so there is hope.

WTG!!!

Do us all a favor and use something that won't be mistaken for a cigarette. It seems that people have almost as much trouble with you attempting to look like your smoking as they do with smoking.

I almost got caught vaping at the ball field on national TV last night..no clue how I didn't as I just vape away! We were in rain delay & I got 3 text messages that my DH & I were shown close up for quite a while on sports time Ohio...

Maybe your vaping was the reason you were shown up close!

I vape openly everywhere. I do not try to hide it ( stealth vape ) at all. I have not had a single negative response in the 11 months Ive been vaping. If anything, its been a great conversation starter and Ive met more people thanking me for the info when we part.

I say do NOT stealth vape. Show people what youre doing and turn more smokers into vapers. Not only will you be saving them from the 4,000 chemical hazards in cigarettes but youll be saving them money as well.

I vape everywhere I go. I always ask permission if I am in someones home though. Its their house their rules. No ones ever said no to me, which is great.

however, while this has never come up, if anyone ever asked me to stop while near them in a public place, I would.
