Vaping on or going back to smoking? Still undecided.

Cuban cigars? Honduran is where its at. Cubans are over rated IMHO....sorry, couldent resist. But making the switch not only will make your wife happy, but your wallet too. I am sure that you cna find somthing that will fufil your needs, the folk here are really helpful, and most have a banner where you can see how much you will save over time. :)

Here's my experience, in a nutshell:

I dragged my feet because something I loved about smoking was letting the cigarette dangle from my lips while I worked as a carpenter. I realized quickly with a blu that that's not gonna happen. My motivation was that I didn't want to smell bad for girls I might like to date. What happened with me is that I bought a small device (an Ecto 650), a handful of tanks, and just started going through flavors to find some that I liked. For the first couple of weeks, I felt like it wasn't cutting it and I'd light up a smoke. EVERY TIME I would get through a couple of puffs before I got rid of it because the flavor was just utter ...... Instead of giving advice, I try to just share my experience about things, so take from it what you like!

Hi Andria,

Sorry about your father. I come from a family of chain smokers so cancers, cardio-vascular related deaths is common. Also, I live in Europe where smoking, although now banned from bars, is very socially accepted so I don't feel out of place when lighting one up. And I can smoke in my office as my colleague is also a chain smoker. His making fun of me because half of my desk is now covered with all kinds of bottles, cords, chargers, batteries and so on. And he sees me wiping stuff all day!

These cig-a-likes are indeed very limited which is why the Zeus (when working properly) seems to be a good compromise regarding vapor production, throat hit, autonomy and still looking like something that can be smoked.

I am not giving up yet but maybe vaping is just not the thing for me.

I would second that suggestion about WTA; when I had a smoking-relapse because of my appendectomy last summer, smoked for a month, then finally got smoke-free again, then 10 days in, started being ASSAULTED with cravings... the WTA got rid of the cravings completely. For 5 months, I mixed it into my ejuice as 10% of the juice; first of the year I started a slow reduction, 9% in January, now at 8%, and so far, so good; no recurrence of cravings, no massive chain-vaping, so next month I'll take it down again, to 7%. I use the 25mg WTA, so it doesn't have to be much of the ejuice in order to be very effective. There are 3 places where WTA is available:

aromaejuice.com -- most costly, but these guys basically invented it
wholecig.com -- medium on price; unflavored is about it, but theirs is just as clear and taste-free as aroma's.
mothersmilkwta.com -- least costly, but theirs is dark and very smoky-smelling -- great in tobacco vapes, not so great in sweet vapes.

And maybe see if there's some way you could try out some kind of non-cigalike vaping rig; the difference in the quality of the vape is just immense -- even with the lowly little kanger T3S tanks, my first try of one of those after a month of cigalikes, my response was "THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT!" Then when I finally took the plunge and got a kayfun -- same exact reaction, it was so much better.

Cigalikes may be swell for the light smoker. For 2 PAD plus smokers they just don't pack enough oomph.
Especially when you are used to the heavy dense smoke of the occasional cigar they simply don't deliver in comparison to that.

And yes, the bigger models need some fiddling but with the right gear that can be reduced considerably. The 'converts' I supplied are still doin fine with dual coil clearos on 900mAH batteries. Spare coil heads are pretty hassle-free when compared to wrapping your own....

1000 $ so far... Hm... Geneva. If that's the one in Switzerland, how much is a pack there?. About 10 bucks or so? 2 packs a day - the math is straightforward.

Enjoyed smoking? So did I. But with 300+ flavours to choose from, why mimick smoking?

Start vaping :)

But in the end, it boils down to your personal preferences. It's your lungs, your dough, your personal tastes. :)

And unlike nanny gubmints, far be it from me telling what to do with it :)

Hi davcav welcome to the ECF. I remember when I first tried to quit smoking I was set in my mind that I needed something that felt like a cig if it didn't have the asthetics that would even cause me to ash an ecig I didn't want it...well nothing I tried worked. It wasn't until years later that I tried something that looks nothing like a cig - Istick 30 that I quit in an instance. Also I found myself liking everything but the tobacco flavored juice. Everything I told myself in my mind I needed ended up being the opposite.

I found the better the gear I got and better the juice no matter what it looked like I was able to put cigs down for good. All that to say is you may want to explore a little before you go back. The Istick 30watt with a Kanger Sub Nano tank requires no rebuilding just juice and go. Good luck davcav and we are here for you.

Hi Zazoie,

Now that I found liquids that I like, it really all comes down to the device. I am not asking for something that will reproduce all the delicate nuances of the liquid's flavor. All I want is something automatic giving me the illusion I am smoking and that last several hours (battery and cartridge) so I can go through a day (or just an evening at least) of carefree vaping. The Zeus would be close to giving me this if only those batteries were delivering the autonomy they are supposed to deliver. Vapor4Life is sending me replacements so I will see then if I was just really unlucky with both initial batteries or if their products are just crap!

I understand that someone who truly wants to quit smoking will go beyond the apparently obsolete devices I bought and into more advanced gears to achieve that goal.

Davcav - do you really want to stop smoking? Is it just that your wife would like you to? I only ask because it's much. much easier to stop if you really want to.

Hi e-pipeman,

No, I don't really want to stop smoking. I love it!

But I figured if switching to vaping can still give me the illusion of smoking and be pleasant and on top of that make my wife happier, let's give it a try. And that's what I am doing.

If it doesn't do it for me, I'll go back to cigarettes and buy my wife a diamond river which should keep her happy for a while :)

Hi Shalisk,

Well, she's still happy for now. As for my wallet, it remains to be seen. But that's not my main concern. I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world so cost is all relative. The over $1000 I have spent in one month for my vaping transition would have been gone in two nights out here in Geneva!

davcav, welcome! I was like you and so many other folks here. I thought if I was going to make a careful, steady transition into vaping, it was going to be by way of a cig-a-like. There was a hand/mouth fixation there that I thought would be imperative to duplicate in order to satiate my cravings for the entire smoking experience.

Not true.

Those devices you're working with now require a lot more maintenance than my iStick and Kanger Aerotank V2. I literally fill and go with this thing.

No, it doesn't feel the same as a cigarette in your hand. But that becomes moot as soon as you let yourself experience devices like these. You forget why you needed to feel the cig in your fingers and the papery tip of a cigarette on your lips. It doesn't even sound good when I imagine it anymore.

Plus, with the istick, you can plug this baby up while you're at work at your desk and vape WHILE it's charging. But my battery last 2.5 to 3 days. Amazing.

Give yourself a chance to push away from what you think may be your comfort level. It's worth it.

Hi itscheddar,

Aaah the dangling cigarette. Love to do that too. By the way, over here everybody smokes so you wouldn't have to worry about smelling like cold smoke when dating.

I don't get why you're so concerned with the appearance of the device...unless you sit in front of a mirror all day
I loved smoking, Smoked from my teens up into my sixties. My mother has emphysema...and her father died of lung cancer...so you can see I have a family history similar to yours.
I would've been happy to just keep smoking forever, but I wanted to have elective surgery, and the doctor said I'd have to stop before. Seriously considered whether I really wanted to have the work done.
My neighbor dropped in to show me the device he had quit with, let me try it, and helped me order a similar one. It took me a while to find my flavors (of course I wanted to duplicate my Kools), but it took me FOUR DAYS to switch over. (I was at around 30 cigs a day.)
Of course I still wanted to be smoking, but almost immediately I started to feel better. I kept at it because I was astonished that it was working!
I still use the thing I started with, the itastevv, but have replaced as they just lose charge-length. One usually lasts most of the day and I always have another ready to go.
So, in order to make this work, you have to actually WANT to make it work.

Hi Seamix,

Yes, that Geneva is Switzerland. Currently most brands are about $9 a pack (8.40 swissies) but I smoked L&M blue (light) which are cheaper, about $8 a pack. Between the 2 packs a day, plus some when partying and the few cigars, I'd say I spent a bit over $600 a month.

As for all the flavors of liquids out there, I'm sure lots of them are great but I don't feel like smoking something that taste like a cake or candy. I am not that much into sweets. I like my coffee short and black, don't eat desserts, etc. But in terms of liquid, I'm set. Found the stuff that works for me.

I think the market is making a big mistake assuming everyone wants to carry around a big honkin' vape thingie.

I was at the racetrack this weekend and there were about 35,000 people there, and this one couple stood out because they had stuff like that, just not my taste at all. Not for out and about and sporting events where it is *crowded*.

I LOVE pen style sized vapes.....about the size of a cigar. But there are so few, they are all moving to big stuff.!@!!!

You *might* be happy getting something in the 14500 battery sized range.....with changeable batts.....so when it runs out you can just carry 2 of those (they are size of a regular AA battery, but they are lithium). Do a search here on those.

The zeus does look like a very nice batt for what you like---size wise.

You might also consider disposable White Cloud "Flings". They are small cigar sized........believe it or not, my brother ONLY uses those, even though I offered him every piece of vape gear known to man. :)

There is a topic on tinier PVs here: 36 pages to cruise thru for you. :) Maybe you will see something:

Don't take this the wrong way but I can tell you're stubborn about it, I was too. When I first started it was about 90% because my then-girlfriend wanted me to quit cigarettes and 10% because I wanted to too. As with anything, it didn't stick for me when I didn't fully want it for me only. After smoking about 15 cigarettes a day and vaping in my car and at home only I eventually decided I wanted to really try to quit cigarettes because I was done with the odors that came along with it and I could just tell physically I wasn't doing well - constantly coughing, congestion/stuffy nose at night (proved to be from cigarettes after I quit them and those symptoms disappeared), yellow finger nails, stained teeth, etc.. Once I got it in my mind that I would compromise my desire for a certain type of product and inhale that I'd had for 15 years in order to get my health in order it became pretty easy to stick to my vape and over time I opened up to the things that initially seemed ridiculous to me (mods, fruity-tasting e-liquids, etc). Just give it time, let it happen naturally for you. Even if you still smoke cigarettes, mix in your vapes from time to time and you might find yourself seeing the benefits. If it ends up not being for you, that's that, but just know it took me over a year to convert and I'm beyond thrilled with the physical and emotional benefits it has provided me.

Hi PennyLynn,

Ah ah ah ah sitting in front of the mirror all day! Loved it!

It's mostly a mental thing I guess. I love smoking. I am trying to vape to please my wife not because I want to quit smoking. If the experience is not pleasant for me, I will have absolutely no problem going back to cigarettes. I'll get her jewelry and she'll be fine.

bet she would rather you quit smoking than have more jewelry

Hi Tjcraig,

Glad all this worked out for you. Rest assured that I don't take the wrong way anything that can be said. With my colleagues, friends and wife, you should hear the kind of stuff we throw at each other's face all day!

And you are absolutely right: I am stubborn and I am not about to change. If I walk into a store looking for a blue sweatshirt and they only have them in red, I am not going to demand they make one in blue especially for me but I'm not going to settle for a red one either. I'll just walk out. No big deal. That's how I feel with vaping. I'm going in and if I can't find something that suits my preferences, I'll walk out. Again, no big deal.
