:(:(:(Whelp, flask bit the dust tonight. Knocked it of the dresser on to carpet accidentally. It landed on the drip tip of the subtank mini straight up and down. Hit hard enough to bend in the positive on my vtc4s. Knew it wasn't a good sign when the batteries slid back and forth inside. New batteries do the same.

Subtank mini still hits like a champ though.

What a nightmare! Sorry to hear about your Flask.

Get in touch with VF I'm sure they have a repair service, not sure what they charge though.

Hope you get it fixed.

Sounds like it probably broke the "sled" (I think that's what they call the plastic piece in there) Maybe if you're lucky it only bent the battery contacts...nah, probably not.

I'm sure they wouldn't charge you much to replace the sled. Probably only take them 5 minutes plus the part. Here's a picture of it that our resident "Flask-Master" posted the other day:
It's attached to a plastic sled. The area where the sled sits does not connect to the body where the USB is. Unfortunately, this is normal.

BNEAT,

That sled is plastic created by a 3D printer. I have heard of it breaking when pushing in a connector to the USB port. 3D printing may be OK for prototyping but I don't think much of it for production items. :2c:

Yeah, I heard it was printed. Plastic injection molds are what I do for a living, so I'm pretty in-tune with printer technology. Even today, most printed parts barely pass for prototypes....but they're getting there. (and don't ask me what I think of printed mod enclosures)

Edit: like most plastic parts though, it's all in the design. (Including orientation of the part during the printing process)

Yeah I know what you mean about the 3D stuff. I guess it gets it popularity because of the cost of the dies for injection molding. But I would rather pay a little more and have something I have faith in than something that is made using glue and a printer that is marginally better than my $69 dollar HP printer.

Low volume eCig parts like this are perfect candidates for printing, but they needed someone with a little more engineering experience when they designed it. This part reminds me of the countless bad designs I've seen from young engineers that've mastered their cad software and think they're good to go.

I agree it's all in the design but as to your previous comment there are many different kinds of 3d printing and some of them are very good. Maybe not a printer you put together in your basement (that's what I have) but some commercial solutions are very close to injection molding. I've been thinking about printing Drip caps and other parts. Too bad it's tough to print in delrin but abs might work

Sent and email to them last night will see what they say. Ordered another last night anyway, so get my gunmetal fixed I'll have an extra when needed.

If you are on facebook, join the VaporFlask Owners group and contact the VF CSR (Preston Kight - no n).

Yeah that didn't come out right. I have messenger on Facebook. I did not want to message Preston late at night. Got email back from Preston, so need to send it in to replace the internals.

Well as long as you got an answer and the OK to send it back - All is good.

Yeah I've dealt with them before for the wife's flask as it was only using one battery. Sent in twice before it was good to go. Pretty sure they swapped out the chip last time as hers now has Atty lock on it.

Well that sure worked out good for you. The one I sent back got fixed but no board upgrade.

Not sure what the upgrade really buys me. My gunmetal has been flawless until I broke it and it has the older chip. However my experience with VFs customer service has been excellent. That is why I bought another to tide me over. I have an sx mini m- class that I got with the wife's out for repair and while I like it, it like the feel and vape of the VF more.

With Evolv it is hard to say they are not big on letting known what has changed from batch to batch but I item that might be handy is the ability to lock the resistance like your SX does.

That said I was a big complainer about the varying resistance on the DNA40 since I switched to 26 Ga and sterling silver eyelets to terminate the coils they have been rock solid. My coils have been reading 0.12 for so long that I occasionally force it to think it is a different coil just to make sure it is still working in refinement mode - "Go Figure".
