Sure - they are called garage door springs.

Lololol.

Side note: my 2 fav wires to work with now are dual twisted 30ga Ni200, or just single twisted 28ga. The dual 30ga is far more robust and easier to work with though

Funny, and now I actually think I know the issue. My Saints are mauling the Bears right now and it got me in a good mood.

I went to the evolve website and looked at the specs.

Specifications
Minimum Typical Max
Output Power 1 Watt 40 Watts
Output Voltage 1 Volt 9.0 Volts
Output Current, continuous 16.0 Amps
Output Current, instantaneous peak 23.0 Amps
Atomizer Resistance, standard wire .16 Ohm .7 Ohm 2.0 Ohms
Atomizer Resistance, temperature sensing wire, cold .10 Ohm .4 Ohm 1.0 Ohm
Temperature Limit 200°F 450°F 600°F
Input Voltage 3.1 Volts 3.7 Volts 4.3 Volts
Input Current .5 Amps 8.0 Amps 16.0 Amps
Screen On Current 25mA
Quiescent Current 1 mA
Power Down Current 5uA
Efficiency 92%
Weight 6g
Footprint .65” x 1.30” .80” x 1.30”
Thickness .32”
Screen size .69” OLED

That freakin .98 ohm build I got might be too much for it. I'll try a screw build and see how that works.

Any chance you could show a picture of your 0.98 ohm nickel build?

Sorry, already ripped it out. It was just 14 wraps of 26 gauge nickel.

My new screw coil failed. .67 ohms so well within the limits. Vapes great but no temp control. I don't get how it worked once then never again.

Not just to be argumentative but that is impossible. 14 turns of 28 would be hard to make 0.20 ohms. What are you measuring the resistance with and what type of atty are you using?

Wow, I admit I'm new to building coils but didn't think I was that bad. I'm using a Mutation X v2...it's a brand new roll of nickel coil I got from this vape shop, maybe it's jacked up?

I know what it is: you're using Ni-Cr wire, not Ni200

Would that explain why it worked the first time and not since?

Another strange thing I noticed (and I can't believe I forgot to mention it) was when it worked the first time it read the high ohms, in TP mode it read the coil at .56 ohms, and when I turned it off it went back up

OK I have to look up a Mutation X v2 so I'll get back on that item. But now this wire you bought is it Ni200?

PS - it should say that on the label!!!

Lol at least someone else knows what I was getting at.

It simply isn't possible to hit 0.98 ohms with Nickel 200 wires. At least not without building a massive coil.

Pretty sure you ended up buying Nichrome. That sounds just about right for the resistance.

Bought 10ft off the roll , now I wish I knew.

The simple way is to measure it. Do you have an ohm meter? Measure one foot and tell me the resistance and I will tell you what kind of wire it is.

But at the res you are talking about I am sure it is not nickel and most of the kids that work in the B&Ms are a couple of fires short of a Happy Meal. Sorry if anyone here works as a salesperson in a B&M but it is true for most.

Yeah, took me a minute to find a tape measure then clean out my orchid but my ohm meter read 2.7 ohms. It's nichrome according to the steam engine...blah. I'm going to order the good stuff online. Thanks everyone for your help.

Well at least you know now that you are not going crazy and your V.F. is working just fine. You can use it just like Kanthal until you get some Ni200... Thank God.

I would suggest buying a complete 100 or 50 foot roll from Lightning Vapes on eBay they charge $5 buck for a 100 foot spool and usually ship very fast.

By the way Ni200 is very shinny silver color most Kanthal and Nichrome while silver are dull in finish. (at least mine is).

Welcome back to the world of sanity. ;)

PS - don't forget the happy meal next time your in your local B&M and I don't mean that to be cruel or funny.
