Hey JAX,

"I found twisted 30g worked for me best. Once twisted, the nickel is no longer quite as soft and it's a helluva lot easier to wick without destroying the coil."

That was going to be my next build. I don't remember if it was your pics or Kiwi's but it looks like a vey good solution. Just not fond of any of the mixed wire twist.

Yeah, I saw where guys were doing the twisted mixed wire. Kiwi even posted up some pix if I'm not mistaken. Although it does work, I wanted to build with only the Evolv recommended wire.

Wicking with rayon, one really needs to get a lot into the coil. I never could do that with single strand coils and was using KGD in the interim. I can now use rayon with these twisted 30g coils. They're so much sturdier. Certainly not as sturdy as a contact kanthal coil but enough such that I don't destroy the coil getting the rayon in there.

Yep, twisted 30awg is my go-to Nickel wire. I haven't fallen in love with any hybrid coils either, but I'm still trying.

I'm a fairly simple guy when it comes to builds myself. Hell, twisting nickel was the first time I ever twisted wire. All of my previous kanthal builds were simple micro contact coil builds and I was happy with that.

Yep, I'm pretty lazy too.

That is what you meant by simple, right?

I agree completely just can't make myself even consider some metal combination that violates everything the DNA40 was designed around.

Hybrid wires are inconsistent unfortunately.

Unless you have time and want to work out the math, you'll need to manually calibrate the temperature based on the combination of wires used (setting it to 350F to get it to work like it's set to 400F with pure nickel for example)

Even how tight you twist it makes a difference too :/

My go to now is either dual twisted 30ga (which I've tested and ohm out to the same as a 28ga), or triple 32ga (ohm out higher than 28ga)

Yup, like I said, it does work but the chip wasn't designed for it and because of my laziness, I don't want to try and figure out where I need to set my temp at.

Hmm, triple twisted 32g huh? I've got some 32g Ni200 that I have yet to use. I might have to just give that a go. I found that I really like a .16Ω nickel coil but have struggled trying to fit that many wraps of dual twisted 30g in the Erl. Thanks for that tip Kiwi! :thumb:

Crap, I forgot! I twisted up 3 strands of 32awg last week but never made any coils!

Lazy AND forgetful...that's a bad combination

Well, I decided to try a pure nickel build on my kayfun 4. Did twisted 30 gauge, 9 or 10 wraps for .14 ohms. Want to try triple 32 soon though.

Running the .14 on the K4 at 430f, 21 watts. It just almost reaches the temp threshold, but by then, I'm done taking my draw. Very nice though, just blown away by the flavor.

Also didn't pulse/glow the coil at all. Just took a leap of faith in my build

edit: actually, after letting it sit for a while, it's reading the the fire temp is just under 400. Still warm though. Not gonna mess with it, it's vaping fantastic and that's all that matters

I too am skeptical about the mixed wire twists. Even though I've heard and seen calculations to make it work. I'm a purist at heart and believe that if evolv intended that option they would have included it in the specs for the DNA40. JMHO.

Gentlemen,

PURIST - it goes with the turf. Along with the never ending search for the best Mod, Wick and Juice.

Yep, I'll bow to you and admit you were right. I'm still not writing off Titanium though, haven't received it yet though. If I pick up some 30 gauge Ti, I may attempt that in my Fogger V6

That's OK Brick it is all part of the search for the ultimate vape even if we have to go crazy once in awhile. i.e. buying a $300 dollar Mod. If I had a therapist I would never admit any of the vaping extremes I have involved myself in.

I don't understand why you need to shift funds... We all know that we are saving tons of money by not smoking.

PS - that emoticon is supposed to be shedding tears.

I started vaping because I was on the verge of becoming a smoker. Those cigars after a stressful day of work started becoming way too appealing, so I found a better alternative. Crazy that I started with a cheapy ego battery with a ce5 or something, and used to think that 20 bucks for a better tank was way too expensive. Now I have a flask and kayfun 4 that's worth 500 bucks with batteries. Not to mention my reo and mechs, along with the all the other toppers I have

WoW - Brick,

I was looking for a way out of a fifty year 2 pack a day habit to get to the level of vape gear that you are at. Not all the money was on vape gear I spent a small fortune on Rx drugs to help including Chantix and nothing worked until I picked up a Ego twist.

Then I found this site and the equipment and juice purchases have never stopped but I would do it again if I knew how easy it would be to quit by vaping opposed to smoking.

Hey, the road only gets Bayer from here right? I'm sure you have noticed a massive improvement in your overall health since dropping analogs
