As noted by Scotay87, there is a press fit plastic bottom cap and a vent hole in the bottom (although much smaller than recommended, but a minor vent event would be handled by it). Combined with the electronic safeguards and the right batteries, it would meet the ECF recommended guidelines. Some have reported that the vent is not completely drilled on their unit.

My LT came with a Microscopic Vent Hole in the Aluminum End Cap. Then to make matters worse, the Plastic piece that goes over the End Cap Blocked most of the hole.

It seemed more like an After Thought and didn’t seem very functional. So I took an 1/8” and opened up the Hole.

Yes, the LT is Supposed to have some built in Circuitry to Protect the LT. I’m just not sure how much I trust it.

To me, a Decent Sized Vent Hole is the Last Line of Defense.

here is a snippet from the below threads :

Explosions seem to happen immediately after charging, on first use, on the first press of the switch. Every report with full details says this.

I have gotten into the habit of holding my pv at arms length and firing it the first time, with a freshly installed battery ... I know it is overkill in my case, but NOT a bad habit to have (I meter my batts before installing, when possible)

the following posts contain the most accurate info for a better understanding :

I do not think that is a bad habbit to hold it away on the first fire, just a extra precaution and that never hurts.

Actually, Thank the ECF because with out this Forum, I would not have thought about it.

I forgot to mention that the buttons are not sealed so out gassing would happen there as well...

That may be so but when I tried to Blow thru my LT, all that happened was my Face got Red and my eyes Bulged out.

Wow... A new variance in difference from one LT to the next... Unless you mentioned that before and a forgot about it... Other latest variance from one tube to the next is the 3.3 cut off that some have stated not having of late... Mine has it and I got one of the first pre-orders from Volcano...

I don't think it makes a Difference but I have a Mini-Lavatube and it came from the UK.

Pretty sure it does not make a difference since every tube made passed through the same hands of an under-paid worker in a factory in China... Would be interesting to know if the non venting holes was unique to the mini or one off those differences tube to tube...

probably just a batch of caps would be my guess. Since we are on the issue...go to home depot and buy a main lug box. Gut it (there aonly 4 screws holding in the components). Knock out one of the knockouts and thread a surge protector into it. Charge! I put one of those sanyo batts on there (the pinky/red ones that sell with the LT), less than a second and some venting, super hot batt when I yanked it out and dropped it. Metal box for the win! The lug box is only 15$ and should contain both a flame event or an explosion event durring charging. I made mine is under 10 minutes. I will try to get some pics on how to do it, but it is so simple that it really isn't necessary.

Anybody "create" a vent hole in the bottom cap? There's a tiny incomplete vent hole in the bottom cap of my Apollo VTube and I was wondering if anyone has been successful in finishing the hole.

I did.

I used an 1/8" Drill and Drilled it out from the Plastic side.
