I definitely need to try this, i have more than enough 500 ss mesh i'm just not sure what you guys mean by rolling the wicks at an angle. I understand the concept of 3-7 wicks working much better but that part went over my head.. Maybe a video of someone rolling a diagonal? Also what is the benefit of these super tight kanthal coils i'm seeing? I'm hoping you guys can educate a noob on how to do this style on a cobra..

Did you already try porous ceramic and abandon it?
Not trying to sound like an idiot, I'm just wondering.
I was just thinking how I wanna emphasize that seven strands makes a big difference. I realize, tho, that not everyone has big or drilled-out wick holes. The seven strands make a shape, the circle of six and one in the center; where all the circles (tube cross-sections) are shoulder to shoulder, but not crushing each other. If a person can do the full seven; it is totally worth it! (Not if it means crushing tubes tho.) And, yeah, the tight coil stacking is just personal preference; but I think its worth at least one build to see if you like it.
edit: remember, long legs ▼ ▼ are harmless. (i.e. a tight coil with legs reaching to the +/- is fine)

long legs... you mean the distance of the wire to the neg and mostly the pos. post?
most tutorials say shorten the distance is better... would be nice not to worry about that...
I usually (always) get a top hot spot, and i have to pulse on and on ... of course checking everything else is right...

Porous ceramic is great; I have it in my dripper. Lots of folks swear by it for good reason. For me, @ .6Ω/.7Ω it can't keep up. Genisis is nice, but gravity's a b--ch.
Yes. You heard right. Its a myth that won't let go. Here's another example.

I'm in no position to dispute this however, that works IF your coils are tightly spaced as yours are. I prefer the tightly spaced coils myself.

this ones hard to see; but the neg. (back) leg goes down along the post (not touching) and across the deck to under the pos. post. Coils not tightly spaced. Really, legs can be long.

This looks sweet!
