Finally finished reading this whole thread...phew:facepalm: Nice work figuring things out. I tried the distilled vinegar but I could taste it with 1 drop in 1.5ml. I'll try the lemon juice concentrate next.

Thanks to all the played Guinea Pig, and all who spent time researching the subject.
:vapor:

one drop in 1.5ml is too high concentration. one drop should be used in 5 to 10ml

Made it through the whole thread, no one is concerned with vaping RealLemon preservative chemicals?

"sodium benzoate, sodium metabisulphite, sodium sulphite"

I tried 5 drops in 40ml Desert Ship recipe and we can't vape it, the lemon/chemical taste is horrible and the aftertaste lasts for days, not to mention the gas and burps.

With that disaster, I decided to squeeze a lemon and try that juice.....off to the mailbox for more goodies....

Im not sure wether we should be concerned with those additives in Real Lemon. I saw them and and decided it was best left for food and drink use. I have been using lemons and limes and making my own by squeezing and straining the juice through cofee filters a couple times. It works for me. I do change it out every couple weeks, and store it in a glass vial in the fridge. The juice of about half a lemon or lime is plenty for my mixing purposes. However Ive noticed lemon juice can actually mute some fruit flavors. Recent tests I dis on tpa ripe bananna bore that out. After three days the lemon juice signifigantly muted the flavor. I havent rotated through other fruit flavors yet to check them but I will. I suspect lemon juice is not good for every single fruit flavor. Note: I work mostly with tpa stuff except for tobaccos and I wouldnt use lemon juice there... lol.

Use vinegar on tobaccos to smooth it out. Lemon juice is for fruits/drink flavors.

THIS IS PURE SPECULATION, DO NOT JUST BUY THIS STUFF AND VAPE IT. Let's get some more awake, science-y types in here.

Thought that had to be added.

Anyway, here's a curveball, but a thought - has anyone looked into diluted salt or maybe even saline solution as a DIY additive? I ask because salt is great at masking flavors in food and drink, as well as enhancing others.

Not saying this is doable by any means, pretty much thinking as I type and read a bit, but found this very interesting in regards to hypertonic saline: "Inhalation of hypertonic saline has also been shown to help in other respiratory problems, specifically bronchiolitis." [Source]

So, of course, read that and googled the stuff.

I don't know, this is probably nothing, and I'm not qualified or even awake enough at this point to look any further into it, but I thought perhaps someone here might be more knowledgeable about how something like this might affect DIY juices.

I've started adding my vinegar/lemon juice to my nic base (100 mg.) before I add the PG, VG and flavoring. It takes away all of the smell of the nic liquid. My nic base is pretty much odorless until it starts to age and then it begins to smell a little "musty." Adding the acids takes all of the smell away.

Lynda may I ask where you got your nic bases? Mine all have an order and yellowish tint from the start (I bought some 48 mg nic, 60 mg nic and 100 mg nic when I decided to start DIYing from RTS ) in June. Now that I see your test I think I'll try it and see if the ordor goes away. Great post! Thanks!

I get my nic from RTS. All of my PG base orders have been crystal clear. I recently ordered 500 ml of VG base and it has a light amber tint to it but it has been my favorite bottle out of all of them. I was thinking if VG mutes flavors, it would probably have a lighter smell (I use 100 mg nic). I was right, at least with this first bottle of VG base. I like it much better than PG, even though it is more viscuous, it is so much smoother as far as taste and smell.

Trying to absorb 61 pages and 608 comments is a bit much. I have a pretty good grasp on what every one is trying to do but I and future readers get a summary of the work to date?

One thing I have not seen clearly stated is long term results on the juice. For example if adding lemon juice brightens a fruit e juice, does it stay that way or does it fade or turn in any way after a couple of months or more? If this was covered, I am sorry I missed it.

Thanks to all participated in the research for sharing your findings. I have a lot of juices that I would call 'too subtle" on the flavor so I am hoping this will help perk them up and make them enjoyable instead of so many 'meh' juices.

In summary, I think the consensus is, 1 drop vinegar to 5 ml of juice and it works in all types of flavors i.e. fruits, tobaccos, desserts. Some like lemon juice in fruits and vinegar in tobaccos and desserts. Some like lemon juice in everything. It's all a matter of preference but IMO, there's no denying that adding an acid, be it lemon, vinegar, tart and sour, malic acid etc. wakes up the flavor and helps it hold its flavor threshold longer than juices without it. You'll just have to experiment to see which one works best for you. I didn't like what lemon juice did to my mixes but I won't mix anything without vinegar. Both apple cider and white vinegar works. I hope all of that made sense. ;0

Aw....nobody wants to take a shot at or give my post (^^ #606) some speculation? If you read up on that hypertonic saline, or any of the various saline solutions out there (not contact lense drops), I think there might be some use for the stuff in DIY. Really curious what some of you think of the possibility.

I added some sea salt to my latest batch, just a tiny pinch. Asthma meds used in nebulizers are commonly in saline solution, so I figure it should be OK. Someone else mentioned they always use salt in their DIY. You could probably find it with a forum search. Will let you know if it changes anything.

I did search the forum, but as huge as these boards are, just about any search returns a slew of threads.

Thanks for the response, look forward to your findings. I figure that if vinegar and lemon juice had noticeable effects, perhaps salt or saline would, seeing as salt is so widely used in foodstuffs. The reason I looked at saline solutions was because I figured they could easily be measured and added in their liquid form. I had no idea some forms were used in inhalers and whatnot for a variety of breathing conditions, so when I saw that I of course had to ask here.

Again, thanks.

I'm curious too. Will be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas. Thanks Cuando for the thought provoking statements.
