Imeo may correct me if I'm wrong but I think that the temperature you set it at isn't as big a factor in burning the wick than the function it has that prevents it from functioning if there is no liquid. Simply put, whatever temperature limit set, the VIR will stop working once the wick is dry, therefore it won't burn the wick.
