Just got word back from Steve at Evolv that the Lavatube 3 is indeed using an authentic dna-40 board with a custom screen that was designed just for Volcano.

That's a good thing!

Now we wait for the price... I actually never had an issue with the Lavatube 2 / 2.5 being a bit fat. I'm just glad to see somebody doing something that's NOT a box mod...

If they can come in at a price point that is highly competitive with Vaporshark / Hana, I'll be getting one.

That's kinda my point... Volcano is specifically advertising the Lavatube 3 to have Evolv DNA 40 Chip Technology...

And the nearly instant response was to accuse them of not using an authentic board. I'm glad I withheld judgment.

I know we aren't supposed to quote E-Mails and things from manufacturers... So I will paraphrase a bit here...

Even Steve in his response referred to the DNA 40 as "Evolv DNA 40 Technology"

And then went on to explain that it is using a DNA 40 board with a custom screen designed for Volcano.

Hah! Is it really that hard to believe that Volcano would use authentic DNA 40 boards in a device that they are advertising as having Evolv DNA 40 Chip Technology?

I'm just amazed about the different/new screen, not that Evolv is working with another company (specifically one i'd never have considered likely for them to partner with).

I just hope the custom screen leads to a redesign of ALL of Evolvs screens so everyone can finally move on from the screen glitching to the next inevitable argument...LOL

Right, when they could be saying GENUINE EVOLV BOARD. It's frankly mystifying why they don't if they can. Saying it's just the technology ... is inviting doubt. It is a marketing error, flat out.

If you had told me a year ago that over the next year Evolv is going to be partnering with Innoken and Volcano to make mods with custom screens, I probably wouldn't have believed it either.

Well, that's your mistake then.

Frankly any US maker of regulated mods should be working with Evolv on some level.

Is any thread in the temp control discussion safe from your brand of negativity Dr G?

We've established that they are using an authentic board, and you call it a marketing error... How is saying they are using Evolv DNA 40 Chip Technology misleading when they are indeed using Evolv DNA 40 Chip Technology? (I wasn't confused at all, BTW...)

I mention that I wouldn't have believed them partnering with Volcano or Innoken, and you say that's my mistake? How did I make a mistake by expressing my opinion?

Is confrontation and sabotage your express intention? Or just a side effect of your every day demeanor? It's not very becoming... LoL

I thought it would be limited to the SX350J discussions, but apparently it can spread anywhere that a company isn't doing things exactly the way you want them to.

Relax... This Lavatube 3 is a GOOD thing... Not something to be upset or condescending over.

It is a genuine Evolv board.

However, that is not what concerns me about Volcano. On a reddit post, a Volcano rep said that they are now making their own batteries "in-house." A bunch of posters called them out on that B.S., which obviously makes Volcano look like total ....... If Volcano is "making" batteries in-house, then I am the Queen of England. Of course, all they are doing is rewrapping batteries and then jacking the price like everyone else seems to be doing lately.

I'm actually happy to (finally) see a dna40 tube mod. Until last August I never thought I'd be using box mods (tried out a friend's mvp and hated it). The Hana box, a clone of which was my first box, is really uncomfortable and ugly. I really like the Cloupor minis I have, and my new vapor shark clone, but they're nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing as my mech mods. The vaporflask is quite nice looking, but it's big. Pretty much only my Cloupor zna50s come close to mechs in aesthetics, and they're not even that close. A tube mod is also easier to pocket, for me at least (though not enjoying how tall they inevitably are).

They're expensive, but I'd say there's no better tubes around at the moment than the Dicodes Dani Extreme v2 or Pipeline Pro 2(same chip, same size, different companies) @ €199, or the Dicodes 2380 @ €289. You probably saw mention of them at the beginning of the Beyond Ni200 thread.

If you love tubes I would think they're the supreme example. More sophisticated and configurable than any other mods in existence, latest TC tech with TCR adjustment, ohms readings certified to 1mOhm, beautifully engineered.

I hate the idea of a tube mod and these are incredibly expensive but I'm still finding it very hard to resist buying one to use as my reference TC device.

True. They do look really interesting, but they are way too expensive (to me). Plus the one button menu system is a deal breaker for me. I change my settings quite a lot and the menu system on the Diocodes looks like trouble (the same reason I was never interested in the Provari 3). I guess the Lavatube three will also be too expensive for me, particularly as it's likely to be much more expensive than $140 in Europe.
