volts ohms resistance, etc....confused and have questions

I understand that most standard bats are 3.7 volts, after that I get lost, so I got a few questions

1. Whats the advantage of volts over 3.7 if it seems to be the standard in most e-cigs

2. Ohms, I just don't get, whats the advantages of higher / lower ohms?

3. Ohms vs Volts, From what I can gather it looks like higher volts and lower Ohms are preferred by most people, I just can't figure out why.

Basically, the higher voltage provides warmer harder hits.

If you don't want to invest in a higher voltage e-cig you can try using the lower ohm atomizer and it will sort of mimic the higher voltage e-cig.

If you don't like harder hitting hotter vapes then I don't recommend you try either.

Ohms= resistance. The higher the ohms the more power it takes to operate it and the shorter your battery life. I don't know how this translates to the flavor and vapor though. I got this info thru my egghead SO (bless his heart).

except I think the lower the ohms (Low resistance) will drain your battery faster

More power means better throat hit, more consistency and generally longer use on a charge. Plus, most higher volt PV's use "non-proprietary" batteries that can be bought at many stores and for much less cost. ($4.5 instead of $12+) Lower resistence atomizers can be used to "simulate" higher voltage vaping on a 3.7v PV but IMO they do not provide the consistency and do not hold up well.

There just is no comparison to vaping at 5 volt or better yet, variable volt and a 3.7 volt PV that under load (atomizer heating)is actually 3.2 volts. More power = warmer vapor, more like the real thing. I would suggest these two options for two of the best PV's on the market:

5 volt GLV2: GLV-2 Electronic Cigarette [GLV-2] - $110.00 : Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

Variable Volt Darwin: Nhaler

V=IR. Volts equals current, in amps, multiplied by resistance in Ohms. If your battery doesn't have the current, then you'll have a lower working voltage.

That's a small part though. The important part is power. P=VI. Power, in Watts equals Voltage, in volts, multiplied by current in amps. Power is work is heat is vapor.

Since voltages are fixed, and atomizers are fixed, it may help to do some quick math and re-write power as P=VV/R. Watts equals voltage squared divided by Ohms. Provided that your battery can supply the needed current, you can now find the power level that you use and it may lead you to a power level that works better.

(Note that since P=VV/R, the lower the resistance, the higher the power.)

thanks folks SO

more power=more heat=more flavor / th
Less Ohms=more heat=more flavor / th...but is less consistant than more volts

And Hoosier...you lost me at V=IR

LOL, how about a calculator to use with Hoosier's math test?
Ohm's Law / Watt's Law Calculator

Just put in the voltage and the ohms and click calculate, the answer you're looking for is how many watts, it's how hot or cool and how much vapor can be produced.

ok, so more watts=hotter and more vapor i'd assume?

Is there any combination that would give decent taste with little to no vapor?

And thanks for all the answers and help so far folks, this has to be about the nicest group of people on the internet...especially for being comprised of mostly ex-smokers which are the meanest people I know lol

We don't tend to be mean because we aren't suffering like ex-smokers. It's more like we switched brands than anything else.

Watts are a balancing act, too little no vapor, too much burnt or no taste. Every vaper has
their own personal sweet spot where the taste, heat, vapor is in balance, and if you follow some
of the threads there is NO two alike... :) Usually about 6-8 watts are a good average.

The juice you use can have an effect on the amount of visible vapor, higher % of PG in the mix,
the less visible vapor, more VG more visible. Personally I enjoy huge clouds, make me feel
like I'm actually smoking.

p.s. we're ex-smokers, but never gave up nicotine, no nic fits......

on a sort of off topic, I've been told I can't vape at work as the "clouds of vapor look too much like smoke" so been poking around trying to find something to give little to no vapor for at work usage

And thanks for the information once again. I've only used the kr808d-1 so I dont really have a comparison to other units but I'm finding everything nice on it, except some flavors seem kind of muted compared to what others say about them

Ok, so here's my soon-to-be dilemna... I ordered the wrong CR123a batteries for my Silver Bullet (which are currently shipping). They are marked 3.7v instead of 3.0v. If I stack those and run 7.4v through a 3.5ohm CE2 am i going to make my lungs explode?

{EDIT} - I think they are actually 3.2ohm CE2's I have on order.

stealth vaping relies on a higher % of PG in your juice... and I agree it doesn't taste as good, it's harsher. I like a 50/50 mix and huge clouds of vapor.
I think the the clouds are also a visual cue to me that, "you're smoking (kinda) and you're being satisfied"

guess you're just going to have to take more vape breaks....
