Just in case anybody's wondering, I've had very good success with using a Vortex as an atty on my REO mini. I took the Vortex apart, removed the center tube thingy, removed the ALF, put the outer tube back on the atty, screwed it on my REO, "squonked" the liquid bottle in the REO, and it vapes like a charm. No dry hits, no leaks - just a very nice, warm, flavorful vape :)

I'll continue using this one on my REO to see how it holds up, how quickly it gunks up, how easy it is to clean and re-use, etc. Some may wonder why I'd go to all that trouble for a device that's not intended for use with a bottom feeder, but I'm always on the lookout for an atty that gives great flavor and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. For now, I can say that the Vortex atty is performing better than other attys that I've used. The vape is smoother and juice tastes cleaner. We'll see how well it holds up over time and cleaning...

Interesting! Thanks Patty for the update on a REO...

I'm using the adapter that I bought from gotvapes when I bought the Vortexes.

As a side note, the Vortex atty works a lot better on a REO Grand or a REO Woodvil than it does on a REO mini. Actually, it works best on the Woodvil, which runs a little hotter than the Grand or Mini. It must have something to do with the "wired" switch on the Woodvil vs. the mechanical switch on the aluminum REOs. However, that may be subjective since I like a really warm vape, while others prefer a cooler vape.

YMMV :)

I never would've thought of using a Vortex with a Reo. Are you using a Stealth adapter? Wow...thanks!

So far, I like them better than a 2Ω atty. The juice tastes cleaner to me with the Vortex atty vs. a 2Ω atty. I must admit that I've never tried an HV atty on any of my REOs.

Ive been using them on my old V4L Batts & Riva 901 and they work very nicely on both, especially the Riva 901, however I don't find they work nearly as good on my Reo's when it come to a satisfying vape compared to a 2ohm Atty or HV Atty. just my opinion

Sorry for back-quoting my own post, but just thought I'd give a follow-up: I've cleaned a Vortex half a dozen times and reused it on my REO Woodvil. For the cleaning process, all I've done is rinse the atty under hot tap water, blown through it to get as much water out as possible, dry burned it with 5 second bursts until the coils glow orange, put the outer tube back on, and vaped. The only problem I've had is a little bit of leakage at the base of the atty. Not surprising, though, as I've been reusing the same outer tube so it's been manhandled a bit :) With a REO, a little leakage is no problem since the leaked juice just runs back into the juice cup and is pulled back into the atty as I vape. I'm really liking these Vortex attys, whether on my eGo or on my REOs.

Thanks bad and danno. You guys are doing a great job in providing new and improved vaping devices to the vaping community. I especially appreciate your willingness to listen to any shortcomings and work with us to tweak the devices to make our vaping experiences even better. Lots of people will quit smoking due to your diligence in taking the "cutting edge" approach to providing better and better vaping products!

I take the Vortex apart, remove the center tube assembly, remove the ALF, put the outer tube back on the atty, screw it on my REO, and "squonk" the juice bottle in the REO to feed the atty. Any excess juice runs back into the bottle just like it does when you feed any atty on a REO. Actually, I've had less problems with flooding the Vortex atty than I have with LR306 or LR510 attys on my REO.

Does that help clarify?

Maybe I'm missing something here PatyR, but once these Vortex get liquid in the center pole they don't work properly and are flooded, I like them on my Riva-901 and anything from 3.3-4v they run fine but how are you feeding this Vortex with your Reo or aren't you feeding it ?

I've used regular cartos with my REO, too. They do work pretty well, but I don't like how regular attys sort of mute the flavor of my juice :)

Patty, I was going to try this if I couldn't get the ones I took apart to work again but I did so...lol I will be trying regular cartos on the Reo since I've read that's what Reonauts use so they can toss them in their purse (or pocket) without juice leaking out of the well.

Hey, Mudflap. Fancy meeting you here :)

I'm still enjoying the heck out of using the modded Vortex on my REO. It works really great on the Grand, but best on the Woodvil. Unlike regular attys, it's almost impossible to flood the Vortex atty on my REO. Plus, it's fun to watch the juice go up the tube, wash over the atty's wick, and go back down into the feeder tube (yeah, I'm a cheap date :D

The Vortex attys do really well with being cleaned and recleaned and recleaned. I just wash'em out in hot water, blow out the excess water, let'em dry a little while, put'em back on my REO, do a couple dry burns until the coil glows orange, put the Vortex outer tube back on, and vape like a fiend. Couldn't be easier and the juice tastes ultra fresh and clean and the vapor is excellent.

I've gotten a little lazy (!) lately, so now I use'em for a few days and toss'em. I've got another couple of 5-packs on order now. That should last me over a month - a lot longer if I get my act together and start cleaning them more and throwing them away less :)

Any updates, Patty? ;)

Glad you like it. IMO, the atty on the Vortex is the very BEST atty I've ever used on my REOs. Maybe badkolo or danno can work on having a bottom fed atty developed, as you suggested. 'Course, since most people don't use bottom feeders (yet), there may not be sufficient sales potential to warrant the cost of development/production. In any case, Vortexes are easily modded for us bottom feeder users and they're relatively cheap :)

I have a few on hand, myself. I haven't disassembled one yet.

Looks like you've talked me into it.

:thumb:

Edit: Tried it. Loving it. Would love to see a bottom feeding atty based on this carto. I'd forsake all my other attys and cartos on my Reo.
