yep, and wood is fabulous :D

seriously, we have our vvw's for about month now and we have grown into loving them a lot!

the 2 biggest plusses for me:
- the vv part gives a whole new dimention to vaping witch is cheer enjoyment and vape nirvana
- the wood is so beatifull, light in weight and very comfortable in the hand

We took two of our VVWs to the lake to dine. It was 100% humidity and had been raining all day. Our AC went out so house was open all day and near 100% humidity inside. I had already sanded DH's Curly Oak door down some because it was too hard to open (humidity changes between Maine workshop and Texas). After sitting under shelter, but in 100% humidity, pigging out on 48 raw oysters, and watching a fantastic lightening show, DH could no longer get his door open without difficulty. So I need to do a little more sanding, but not too much, as our normal humidity is not that high so, when we get back to normal humidity door will shrink up a little.

Bottom line..................... DH had to leave, for out of town, early next morning, we didn't get home in time for me to give it attention AND he was really bummed that he couldn't take his VVW with him. He's a believer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aww, yeah, my love's zebra/wenge also is a bit sensetive to humidity, it can vary here (in the house) from 40% to 70%, at 40% the mangnet is about the only thing that keeps the door in place, at 70% it's almost stuck and hard to open. conciderd sanding but i don't want to ruin it, it is so perfectly made to fit, so i'll leave it and if it ever needs some tlc from rob i'll ask him to take a look at it. mine, walnut/walnut seems to be less sensetive to it, i notice a lil difference, but not much.

anyway, on that same bottom line... when he noticed this he was really bummed too coz he thought it needed to go back to rob right away, luckally it's not often 70% so in general it's not a problem at all :D

Morning All. Zip in while having coffee. Along with DH's Curly Oak, which had previously been sanded, by me, when it got so stuck I had to put it in fridge to get door off, I had my Bloodwood/Spalted. I had sanded it, too, as it got too tight. But it got only a little tighter in the 36 hours of 100% humidity. I could still open the door with just a little more effort.

I learned what not to do sanding the door with our two figured redwood Mini Woodvils. I took a little too much off of DH's, used a foam sanding block which gave some so I didn't get a perfectly level sanding, and I went too fast. So now I use very fine sandpaper, on a totally flat surface, and do a couple of light swipes, being careful to maintain the whole surface of edge perfectly on contact. Do each side couple light swipes, dust it off, and try in door. Then repeat as needed. AC is getting fixed this morning, I hope, and humidity has come down from 89% to 85% since middle of night. I may not take any more off as we rarely go much over 60%, outdoors, and last summer got down to <15% some days. Most exposure to lots of humidity is just going in and out of buildings to cars so the exposure isn't very long. Rarely are we at 100%. In future we'll have the VV Grands for high humidity times so won't have to worry about sticking doors.

thank you alice! i will keep that in mind, it may become anoying in the fall, coz then in the house can become very humind in the time it is not cold enough to fire up the central heater yet. but then again i may put the heater on for a bit just to get house a bit dryer, coz when my son comes for a visit he otherwise will sneeze his head off as he is allergic to those housemites :D at the moment we are around 50% to 60% so the door is functioning perfectly :)

Rather than take too much off I'm thinking that since our humidity rarely get's very, very high I would rather not use any Woodvils that are that affected by the humidity during rare very high humidity. They can have mini-vacations. One of my Curly Oak Woodvils was a regular "swimmer" and it didn't swell so there may be several factors that make one different from the other even with same type of wood.

One sure thing is that putting them in refrigeration, in a baggie, over night, any stuck doors have come right off. So best not to use too much force when a few hours in fridge reduces risk of breaking.

My oldest Purpleheart Woody took many "swims" before I knew about using Howard's. The door never got tight on it even being with me in spa for several hours.

Just thought i would share with my REO family.......

The VVW that i sold today on the classifieds went to a REOnaut. This individual was unable to acquire one on sale night. He tells me he was in the Caribbean for a wedding anniversary and even brought a laptop with him in hopes of scoring one but the internet signal he was getting at the time was very weak and he was unable to get one. He is overjoyed to have one coming to his home now.

Talk about WIN-WIN. :)

yes indeed, the door may get too loose if i go sanding, don't want that either, for now i leave it as it is and see how it goes, when the humidity is rising and the door is showing sighns of expanding i take the door out and wait till the humidity is down again. don't think he will let his have a lil vacation, he loves it to much :D

I feel honored. Proudly accepted.

Hugs and love, Feisty Alice

DH said you are welcome to pig out and party with us any time. Hoping with Sissy Dog here he'll do his "orgasmic eggs" Tues and Wed mornings. I'm requesting no one cook anything aromatic Monday morning as I won't be able to eat before surgery.

I am going to do a tiny bit of sanding on DH's Curly Oak this a.m. Tiny bit. It has had time to readjust to air conditioned house and is still too tight for his hands. I won't be taking it to lake tonight as DH is carrying a Black Grand (I'll be picking him up at airport and then directly to the lake.) so I want to take matching Black Grand and Mini. (We've been subjecting most Wood REOs to hours of accompanying us in the spa, over time, except for the VVWs of course, but the VV Curly Oak has been the most affected of all by the extreme humidity. We have five Curly Oaks. As it was the last one we've gotten maybe the board had extra time to further dry out in storage at REO.) Of all the Woodvils we have DH's Curly Oak is the least likely to spend much time outside as DH can't handle much heat or cold so, under usual circumstance, there shouldn't be many wide humidity swings. Outside humidity is now 69% and dropping; inside ~40 as it was cool enough yesterday and last night that AC didn't run a whole lot.

My guess would be about the same price as the VVWs simply because although Rob doesn't have to craft each one by hand and charge for labor, the machining and finishing costs about the same. Add the chip and wiring time and you come out to about the same.

Just a guess. And just to get this thread moving again.

I've come to a conclusion and it led me to a question or two. Questions first: What's the warranty like on these things? And, can the warranty be transferred?

This is a really nice mod. It performs exceptionally well. -- As I've said in this thread once or twice, the wood is too elegant for me. My VV Woodville stays behind when I leave the house because I'm concerned about damaging it. Metal would have been a better fit for me... But I've decided against selling it.

What I plan to do is offer it as a trade for a VV Grand in the classies after the VV Grands are out. So, that makes me wonder about the questions I led this post with.

Hey JifJifJif,
I just thought I'd tell you that Rosey made it without issue and is being treated like the Queen that she is. I posted an image into the lounge showing her with a HH 357 and Trippy Tip Donut. Last night I loaded her with my night-time vape and wow do I really enjoy this REO. Thanks for taking such good care of her before you sold her to me. My only issue is I need to get the Tobacco flavor out of her as whatever you were vaping in her is over-powering my TV Pina Colada :D. Brew
