Ya...my first Woodvil was a Mini Curly Oak...and that took weeks for the smell to dissipate. My cocobolo 18490 and VV both arrived without odor. I'm guessing it has to do with the porosity of the wood....ebony and cocobolo are very dense woods, so the finish doesn't penetrate very far, so there is less to cure. Whereas the more porous the woods are, the more finish gets into the wood, so it takes longer for it to cure. I'm no expert, its just my guess. :)

Hey! At least the TESLA looks like it is a cinnamon red hot REO!

Funny now that you mention it....it does smell like cinnamon....what the odds of that happening.

Most of mine look like caramel candy! And they smell like it! Or butterscotch, or butter rum, or maple! Hey this is cool! I never thought about that!

My VVW Curly Oak is still unusable for me, the smell actually changes the flavor of the juices I vape in it, and it is awful. I had the same problem with my 18490 Utile and it took months to go away completely. I tried to get a cocobolo, ebony or stabilized for that reason in the sale night madness, but couldn't get one.

I guess I will give it another couple of weeks in the ground coffee.

I put a ton of Howard's inside mine (reg woodville) and put it in a ziplock Baggie with a fridge pack of baking soda. That is why Karen is able to use it now. (ues i am taking credit lol) I don't like using coffee as I think I am trading one for the other smell wise.

YOU took away my NEW smell! Do you know how much people pay for that NEW smell? LOL.

I have only bought a small percentage of my REO's new. I like smelling them, it let's me know they were just made!

I must say on some it has been strong. But I have never done anything but let them sit out and use them.

Whatever finish is on the bloodwood has very little odor. From pre-sale reading, I was expecting to have to go to some lengths to subdue the odor, but there was no necessity.

My Bloodwood/spalted maple had little lingering smell, the all spalted needed a little odor removal with coffee treatment and the Curly Oak still has some smell despite a couple of multi day sessions in coffee, but it is usable. I have five Curly Oak Woodvils and they have taken the longest to lose the finish odor out of a bunch of Woodvils. One Curly Oak took about a month of treatments, using various things, to get most of the odor out. Only after doing the coffee treatment, for a couple of weeks, was it usable for DH and me.

But I'm still a Curly Oak Fangirl. It's worth the effort to have such a unique WOOD that is so beautiful and extra durable.
