is he ready to try???? if not, then wait. but if he is ready, a good starter kit would be an eGo 1100mAh battery and a CE8 stainless Steel mesh tank. Get 2 eGo batteries and 2 CE8's ( always need a backup while the other is recharging) a good juice company would be Heathers Heavenly Vapes and depending on what type of ciggie he was smoking will determine the nicotine level of the juice. Hardcore heavy smokers do well with a nicotine level of 24+ mg/ml in the juice... if you think he will prefer a tobacco flavor, HHV has Legend and Pirates Booty. consider getting sample sizes before spending on larger bottle sizes

Is he aware of that you are getting him one ?? Because if he isn't it going to be hard.

From what I learned from vaping is a lifestyle change and a pretty big money investment in the beginning. There are tons of devices out there and the choice is really hard, a lot o ppl think kanger evod coil (evods & protanks) setup is good in the beginning for new vapors I hate them and think the can send ppl back to cigs because they are pain when they don't work.

I would go with a itaste mvp-2, you get everything you need in one kit and its solid and is fair priced device. Its a pretty big bulky thing to have with you compared to a standard evod battery.

You really need to sit down with him and see what he likes, let him look at different devices on the web and see what he likes the look of. Show him some vape porn (Google vape porn and choose images to show in some nice looking stuff.) so he gets interested in getting a nice device. If he gets something he thinks is really nice there is less chance he will give up on it.

Juice is going to be really hard there are so many different ones out there. I would try and get him to go to brick and mortar store so he can try different juices or if that it isnt an option go to a website that offers sample packs. Usually you can get like a 5 pack of different 5ml flavors.

Before buying anything come on here and get an opinion and see if pbusardo pbusardo - YouTube has done a review of the product to get his take. He is well knowledged and gives his fair opinion, he is also very newbie friendly.

The title made me cringe. You can't "make" anyone quit smoking unless they are totally willing and committed themselves. Using an e-cigarette device is far more complicated than smoking, yet it is not rocket science either.

Realize that the cigarette-sized batteries are not worth your time or money; they just don't pack the punch or battery life to be worthwhile. At the very least get a starter kit with eGo class batteries (cigar-size).

Finding the right gear is the easy part. Finding an e-liquid flavor that he will like and use may prove to be the hardest part. You won't be able to find a flavor that tastes like a particular brand of cigarettes. You can't duplicate the taste of burning tobacco leaves and smoke.

If there's a vape shop locally where your father could sample flavors before they are purchased, this is ideal. If not, getting smaller quantity sample flavors from multiple sources might prove advantageous as you aren't spending a lot on a single bottle that he may not care for and then it goes to waste. He's not going to use the device if he doesn't like the flavor. Don't just focus on tobacco flavors, try some fruit flavors or even a menthol.

Flavors are a very subjective and personalized thing. What one person likes, another will detest it. Only your father will be able to determine if the flavor suits his palate.

You CANNOT Make Him quit. Discuss Vaping with him. Have this ECF up and running when you start the conversation. If he likes to 'piddle' with hobbies, you could try adding the hobby concept to the discussion. If not, try to tell him of how easy it can be.
Have tabs, or windows, of selected threads such as 'Older Folks and Vaping', 'How did You Quit ?' and other threads he can relate to. No need to show him a ProVari or a REOS, Just keep it simple and stay to the facts. Approach this as an intervention, and be ready to answer questions. Good Luck, but I have my doubts.

I'm here, when I'm here
My wife tried to "make" me quit, for 12 years. I kept saying, "I will, one day". "Yeah, when your in the grave!!" she always replied. Some of us "older folks" get pretty set in our ways. I did it on my own, on a day she wasn't nagging, when I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest and had a difficult time catching my breath from doing minorly strenuous work outside during the summer.

I started with a kgo and knock off evod tanks (didn't know any better) after finishing my last cig in my last pack.

It's going to be up to your father if he want's to quit. There's good suggestions above. When he's ready, take him to a B&M store in your area. Let him talk to the folks that run the store and the patrons that are there. Might be a little easier that way. Was for me.

Good luck and Happy Vaping!!:vapor:

Yeah, agree that you should talk with him first about it. Being he has been smoking so long he may be open to it more than a younger smoker would. If one has been smoking that long it probably hurts like hell to smoke, and having ones nic and vapor too, is a mighty easy sell.

Check for local vape stores, and if he is open to it, take him shopping to one where he can check things out and get help from the staff. Good luck and hope for the best.

As long as he wants to quit, then by all means you have come to the right place. However if he is happy with smoking then who are we to preach to someone about switching/quitting. That has always been my views and will always be. If he is ready to take the step into vaping then there are a massive amount of starter kits out there, try looking into these.

Make sure to get him some extra tanks and clearo's as well. Maybe buy him 2 sample packs of liquid? It sounds like a lot to get 2x sample packs from vendors but there are so many flavors and different ways to make certain flavors that it is going to be hard to pin-point a flavor that you think he may enjoy.

But if he enjoys smoking, then you have no right to force him to. Even though you may mean well, it could annoy him or turn him off of making the switch to the healthier alternative. I have a few friends who bought starter kits for their loved ones and just put it in their stocking on christmas or just as an extra birthday gift and it worked out well. Maybe give your father a link to this forum for starters? We would love to answer any and all questions he may have.

having just started using e cigs after over 25 years of heavy smoking, the first thing your going to have to do is know if he is truly ready to quit. if he's not, don't waste your money or time. the next question is, do you smoke your self and do you vape? do you know anyone personally that does it? if not convincing an older person (over 40) that vaping is the wave of the future is probably going to be an up hill battle, a success story from a close friend that can help with the learning curve is very important.
i did not have anyone to turn to other than this message board and the google, i am also an adventurous person so switching to e cigs for me was as easy as going out and doing it, i also had a high desire to quit (i felt like crap all the time)
be prepared for disappointment if they are a stubborn personality, my sister in law lives in our house, still chain smokes, and refuses to even entertain the thought of using the e cigg even though both my chick and her girlfriend both got on board when i started, another thing to remember that "e cigs are worse than real smokes" "they have anti freeze in them" "i dont like chemicals" you name the excuse ive heard it, the nail ive used over and over with success is to take a giant drag off of a real smoke then blow it through a paper towel, and show them the nasty goop that comes out, then take an even bigger vape and blow it through the towel and show them the nothing, that more than anything convinced at least two naysayers that its got to be better than real smokes.

that being said, i started out with a blue starter kit and the assortment of flavors, i know now that its only a gate way device, but its a place to start, you might also want to pick up an eGo starter kit to have on hand, but that is a little forward thinking because of the "fiddling factor" that is involved. i smoked so much i was constantly killing the blues. also remind the person that your trying to help that you can still smoke while using the e cig, unlike the gum or the patches (although probably not advisable, but who ever listens to drs anyway)

at 30 years old i was a smoker since the age of 12. after moving from NH to OK last april i started having breathing issues, as did my son. in july i finally made up my mind to quit. but i was ready, and i had told my wife back in 2005 i would quit when i was ready. i tried quiting for other people even my kids but always started again and would smoke more. now i am vaping 3-6 ml of 24mg juice a day and havent touched a cancer stick since my son tossed my last pack in july.

Just my two cents. It's so hard for me to believe now, but when I was a smoker I was completely against switching to vapeing. A friend nagged me about it night and day. My answear was a steady, no! She finally wore me down. She ordered me a Premium starter kit. I was extremely skeptical. The first day I used it I was hooked! Now days I rebuild my coils and order to many mods :) But at the beginning I wanted something that looked and felt like a real cigarette. And I wanted anything that tasted like a cigarette. Funny how things change!

I wish you the best with your dad. Just thought sharing how I was at the start might help. Good luck!

I wanted to add, I did not stay with Premium long. I switched to V2. Again, only my opinion, but I think V2 is a great company for beginners who are unsure about making the switch.

This +1000, Additionally, the benefits of a good vape shop, your dad could get the feel of a couple of devices hands on! This may help him decide what he may like.
