so im looking at getting a nemesis, i have a provari right now, use a penelope and some bcc mega, but will be retiring that soon. what do i need to know about mechanicals, is nemesis a good starting point? any links of info i need would be appreciated...thanks guys!

i was checking clones, i like the price better for sure, but im not really worried about it. i feel like the OG's are better quality, probably wrong lol. the provari suits me well for now, i just here and see everyone raving about mechs, is there really a difference?
Mechs are the simple and works end of the vaping spectrum.
No circuits, no regulation just a Battery holder with a Mechanical switch.
Nemesis and most of its Clone offerings is a very decent device. Solid performance and flexible in design.
Mechanical Mods are almost always smaller footprint than APVs in same battery class.
Most can also support a Kick module for Quasi VW support(no longer full mechanical)
When looking to drop to low/sub ohm Vaping a Mechanical with the proper battery is an easy decision.
The question is more What direction are you wising to go in Vaping.
As for myself, I enjoy a bit of variety and use Mechanical Mods, some with Kicks as well as my APV. It tends to keep the Vape experience spiced up and fun/relaxing. I also enjoy tinkering with different devices.

i guess what i want to get out of it, more flavor from the vape, big clouds are cool, but im more worried about taste. ive been scouring posts trying to figure mechs out but i feel like im running in circles!
The big difference is simply lack of regulation- amp limits, short protection and the like. You end up depending on your ability to build and check coils. You have to know how resistance works and what batteries to use. It's very satisfying and will allow you to blow big clouds. If thats what you're after than buy a nemesis. Like I said earlier it's a nice mod, the clone is great and totally affordable. The one I own is a Tobeco but I hear the Hcigar clones are a little nicer, and for 10$ more why not.

To add a little to this, the coil and wick build are specifically the biggest factor in taste. Type and gauge of wire make a difference as well as type of wick. Some people love SS mesh for flavor, I love cotton, you may like silica. Also, the size of the atomizer chamber makes a difference (smaller usually means more flavor), and so does airflow. I drill my rda's to have 1/16" air holes.
I think it's a pretty universal thought that more surface area of coil on juice is usually a recipe for more flavor as well. That's why micro and nano coils give nice flavor. Some swear by twisted wire, which also adds surface area.
The biggest thing with mechs is to know your coil resistance, know how to use an Ohm's Law Calculator, and use an IMR/hybrid battery rated to safely handle your amp draw.
I've yet to get a mech mod w/ a smooth, wobble free, low voltage drop switch.
My best switch is FT Brass nemesis. Low voltage drop. About 5 degrees wobble. Finger nail clipper click w/ edge press sometimes. Not overly scratchy.
My worst switch is FT SS Nemesis.
101vape Nemesis switch is near wobble free and has low voltage drop but more clicky and scratchy than FT brass nemesis.
FT Origin switch lots of wobble and it's a bit scratchy.
...and the list goes on.
Does it take a NASA engineer to design a smooth mech mod switch?
Come lottery day I plan to give GP PAPS a whirl.

another nice thing about a Mechanical is you do NOT have to build sub ohm to achieve great taste and it just puts out the power needed.
A KayFun Tank with a 1.3-1.5ohm coil and cotton wick can make flavors scream and an 18650 will still give hours of enjoyment. Honestly I only have one dripper set up under 1.0ohm. it works very decent, but I don't have to stop and drip in a tank setup.

thanks for all the responses guys! i think im still in over my head. im just getting into rebuildables and learning it. i was thinking i may need to learn more about building and such before even considering a mech. ive only made a few coils as it is, so im gonna take some baby steps in this one i guess haha!i have a penelope and just orderd a kayfun clone, so well see how that goes i guess. i feel like im cheating with the penelope though because i got some ready made wires. lol
Like others above, I'm thinking you should probably experiment with the toppers before jumping into a mech. The Kayfun you ordered should be an excellent platform to try some things on and using a regulated device with it will force you to play in the 1+ ohm range (much safer) as well as enforce some safety protocols.
My recommendation would be for a nice 1.5 ohm microcoil with cotton wick in that Kayfun - plenty of flavour and usable on anything.

That's interesting as my 101vape Origin has virtually no wobble and no scratchiness at all. Smooth as could be. It did take a a little while to get it dialed in though. Actually if I had to give it any kind of negative it would be that it is a little stiff. Very solid and attractive device overall... Can't wait for the Aqua to get here to go hybrid now!!!

That is interesting. My FT Origin switch has about 0.3 mm lateral movement and about 20 degrees rock. I can remove spring, hold switch in closed position w/ no body gap, and see lateral movement. The switch post fits loose inside hole. Perhaps they bored hole too large. Assembled and on desk, Origin rocks about 20 degrees while switch button stays on desk top.
That FT Origin is a slim beauty and it works pretty good. Looks good paired w/ 21 mm and smaller toppers. Have yet to voltage drop test but hard hits seem a little random. Maybe 101vape version has better switch?
My blasted patina FT brass Nemesis looks more rugged. I find myself using it most of the time. Reliable and great performance.

I have 3 types of mech mod (all clones) I heartily endorse (just so have choices). I have 2 Nemesis clones (1 brass from Fast Tech, and 1 stainless HCigar I got from a vendor). They are my absolute favorites and basically all I use. But I also have a Maraxus and Launcher V2 (both from Fast Tech). They are also rugged, very attractive and top-rate performers. No hesitation in recommending either. Just love my 2 Nemesis more 
I have a cheap VapeOnly vMecha, I bought it because I wanted a stainless steel mod that could take some abuse and keep rolling without having to worry about electrical components. I love it. It has an adjustable pin and airflow, also a built in safety fuse. I use low res cartos and atomizers on it and it is always satisfying.
I say find a cheap one and just get used to the mechanical device, before rebuilding or anything like that.
IMRs and a smart charger (Nitecore i2) as well.

Mail man came today...and brought some more goodies... Got my Aqua in and got it all setup. This is my first go at a dual coil vape. I have a Ikarus hybrid 2.1 clone that I just can't seem to get duals setup properly, but I had much better luck with the Aqua. The first tank I vaped I think either I had too much cotton in the micro coils and was feeding rather slowly so I changed out the cotton and it is vaping better. I only ran the cotton down the first channel as well. I don't think it was wicking well enough with the tails into the bottom channel. Overall my first impressions of the Origin / Aqua hybrid combo is a hit. Great feel and hard hitting combo....
I'm assuming FT refers to a Fast Tech clone? If so I can't help but be captain obvious here and say it doesn't take a NASA engineer for a smooth button but the OG manufacture of the mod.
All the OG mech mods I own(ed) (F3cta, Vanilla, VW Nemmy, and Hero) have/had smooth buttons.
