WARNING -- My Battery Exploded!

I've actually heard of something like this happening WHILE vaping. Some guy blew his teeth out when his PV battery exploded while he was vaping on it...the article said something about him "stacking batteries," whatever that means. I don't know how that could be done, but okay. Either way, it made me a little nervous. And I've heard of this happening with knockoffs before, too. I will NEVER buy a knockoff, too risky! It sucks, though...Vape Dojo has imitation eGo-C-type PVs for $12 or something like that. But it's not worth possibly blowing my face off :/

How does one stack batteries?

Just like in a flashlight, put one in, followed by another, then screw on cap.
Many have said it increases the possibility of failure but, aside from having two possible points of failure (two batts), I'm not sure I follow that logic.

Stacking batteries= putting more than one battery in a PV. An example is putting 2 18350 batteries in a device meant for 1 18650 battery just to get a higher output voltage. THIS IS A BAD IDEA AND IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

On the stacked battery sub-point:

I use stacked batteries all the time. I use them in a mod designed for 2 batteries in series (Voltage regulator needs higher voltage to buck and set vv).

However I also:
1) Use PROTECTED batteries in a swappable battery mod.
2) Use them in sets. Keep sets together and rotate them.
3) Test them occasionally with a multi-meter.
4) I don't buy crap super-cheap batteries to save a $1.00 and then burn down the house.

Safe charging practices are a good idea...not overnight and in a charging bag/safe container.

Some mods are designed for stacked batteries (and require them). Others are not. I don't suggest them in all-mechanical mods due to lack of circuitry (voltage regulators in vv mods have over-current protection, for example). I also use em in regulated plastic box-mods so that A) they can't blow up since pressure can't build, and B) they are plastic and non-conductive thus less likely to short something C) the voltage regulator has over-amp protection.

wow. I had read somewhere about not mixing chargers...probably all the reading I've done here. When I ordered each of my batteries I always put a note in the comments letting vaperalley know what I have and they tell me what is compatible. Love those guys.

glad you and your house are alright. had a LI-ion battery blow up in my basement before from over charging an RC car.. needless to say it left a hole in the concrete floor. Just imagine if i was near it..

I took some pics of a lipo safe bag. This is with a trustfire charger, but you could use a lipo bag for an ego pv:

Click on the pics for a bigger view. They start off with the charger, then I have it in a metal pan. I usually put the bag in the pan, but got a better photo of it out of the pan.
The last pic shows the LED lights on the charger. Some people say they don't like not being able to see the charger LED lights, because its best to remove a battery once charged. With this one I can see the LED through the bag. With smaller pv batteries this is different of course, but they can still be put in the bag, and a charging bag is a good asset to have.

Also, as you know now, use the charger that is for the battery.

It gives me a little piece of mind to know that power to the charger will be cut after 3 hours if I do happen to forget or fall asleep before the batteries have finished charging. I do have a question though, is it safe to leave the batteries in an un-powered charger or is there some risk in that as well? I never leave batteries in the charger when I'm out of the house, but they may on occasion sit in the un-powered charger till the next morning.

They are not interchangeable; the Blu charger should only be used with Blu e-cigs! The Blu batteries are the opposite polarity of almost all other e-cig or stand-alone batteries. A polarity switching adapter must be used to charge non=Blu batteries.

As stated by others, only use the charger that came with your battery - unless you have the technical saavy to interpret the output potential. The charging current of the two pictured are relatively close; they are made for the smaller 10440 batteries found in cigarette sized e-cigs (usually the automatic types). Although the non-Blu unit could theoretically charge a larger eGo style battery in a longer period of time, it is not recommended as it could stress the smaller output charger and render the charger useless.

I prefer not to leave them in the charger myself when the charger is off, because they are touching metal in the charger.

I use my battery charger in my concrete garage with a fire extinguisher to commercial standards at the door.
I have many cats/dogs in my home and would hate to have a battery kill them.
It's freaky hearing all the reported battery incidents.

?? I don't understand what that has to do with my response. I have more than one battery. The question was whether to leave them in the charger when off.
There have been some reported incidents, but not lots. Simple safety is easy to put in place.

That was back when e cigs were POS.
Nowadays we have protection systems.
But yeah, e-cigs really took a hit (no pun int) after they broadcasted on CNN, Etc.

Other than power leakage I would think that it'd be relatively safe.
I do know some folks that carry many batteries in a little sack and it hate to have it blow up on them.
So if the contacts did for some reason touch together that would definitely cause a problem.

That was a report about a mod not an ego battery. You can not stack ego batteries. The batteries they are talking about when referring to stacking batteries are a lot bigger and different from the batteries in Egos.

As for the exploding Ego I don't think it had anything to do with the fact that it was a knock off. I think it has everything to do with the fact that he used it with a charger that was not compatible. That is just common sense IMO but I guess there are some people who would do it.
