I don't buy things to support people who are better off than I am. I buy things that I think I want and are of value to me. Not everyone has hundreds of dollars to spend to see if they like a product. Nor is everyone looking for a 'family' based on mutual purchases. I think this exclusivity you all seem to cherish so much turns off a lot of potential buyers. Sell a product based on its merits and value, not on some hokey idea that a person receives a new family because they spend a couple of hundred dollars on an object. Look at provari, same kind of thing. Is it a good product? From all accounts it is, but I'll never own one at the prices they ask. I just want a device that works correctly at a price I consider worth it, whether it's made in the USA, China, or Canada is not really a concern of mine. It's a luxury to be able to buy expensive goods over inexpensive ones. It's a bummer for the individual whose creation is cloned but that is the nature of business. I"ve looked at REO's and never really understood the perceived value. It's not really an exclusive club if anyone who plunks down a couple of hundred dollars can join. Sorry.
Plankton.

I think it was directed at my post. Figures. I should know better than to post anything political - was just trying to give a spin on the clone concept as food for thought.
Sloth, naaaaaa....I was just thinking with all the bashing going on, not just here but many areas that I thought I would look up a Forbes article. I read a bunch of articles and this one pretty well nailed it is all. China has major impact throughout the world of course. It's not only in the US. I just thought if I am going to bash China I should take a look at how many pairs of Nikes I own. I drive an Avalon. America is its own worst enemy. Unions, bla bla bla.

My interpretations of that article are that

1. It was written by a guy named Baizhu Chen
2. It has nothing to do with how counterfeiting effects an individual vape entrepreneur like Mr. O'Neil.
Yea, and Forbes publishes any writers articles, right? Take a look at the guys credentials then read the article. Or not. I completely disagree with your post though. It has EVERYTHING to do with it. Disparaging the article because it was written by a Chinese person is just more China bashing and ethnic hating. I do it too so, I'm the same.

It's true - and we have a major impact as well so it does go both ways. Globalization...

At least I am a fair trade sloth. LMAO :D

Nah, I'm just considering the source. He has every right to be nationalistic too.

Controversial to say that in here :)

But I totally get what you're saying. At first I thought it was weird and culty. But the man is an artist, not just a machinist. So you're not just paying for a device that works correctly. I still think that if you had to literally round up every single vaper on the planet, and show them the Reo in person, you'd get massive sales. It's reaching these people that's the issue. Or maybe you're right - some people just don't want to go near because of the culture etc. My 2¢

I know Rob doesn't want to hear this, but....

When I'm at a b&m or any other place that allows vaping the only people using mech mods are the Hammond box cloud chasers. Everybody else is using a regulated mod of some sort. I know Rob don't do other people's electronics but I think a REO-DNA would sell. Build a hundred and see what happens.

I own 8 REO's and 4 Vaporsharks. If Rob made a REO-DNA I would own ZERO Vapersharks.

Resin + electronics! But still keep some just pure, especially the wood

I guess.. but people kinda need to eventually remove the try cycle wheels and start building there own coils to suit there wattage needs. Once they do that they will see there really better off with the regular reo.

Still new to this forum but it seems to me like there's a swing going on to bottom fed currently. Am I wrong? So anyone that's used to a regulated tube/box mod will most likely want a regulated bottom fed. But are they willing to spend $250-300? And how many?? Will it end up a small few?? Then not worth it.

Which begs the question... why did you buy it?
It's incredible, of course. To sit back in the arm chair and say business sucks, I fired everybody and China is murdering me makes no sense in that in the end, it's a buck of wood and two bucks of metal and a whole lot of innovation. So I pay for the quality and the innovation. China steals that and replaces the wood and the metal for a quarter[emoji57]

I bought my first Reo from a then-german-dealer, because I was sick of dripping and looked for improvement.
At the time I would have bought from any source, and I would have probably fallen for the low price.
Nearly 4 years passed since then, other Reos followed and went through spas and upgrade kits.
In a way, I don't buy Reos, but buy Rob's support together with a superior device.
China may sell clones, but they don't sell Rob...

Another thought:
Even if the Chinese sell many of this cheapo devices, Rob would probably never have reached these customers anyway.
A lot of those customers will try it and shelf it right away, because it was a cheap buy.
Others will learn to appreciate bottom feeders and convert to squonk believers.
And if they do, they will learn about Reosmods and the original thing, maybe even about this community.
This might even increase Rob's customer base in the long run.
After all, $180 is a lot for just a try, but not much for the long term device you get for your money.
You have to know the device to appreciate it.

I've seen a lot of cloning throughout my life, starting in the 60th with subsidiced furniture clones from communist East Germany.
They were partly successful, because German dealerships wanted to make a buck and secretely replaced the orginal with the clone.
It didn't help them in the long run, though.

As long as he restricts his business to Reosmods.com, I think Rob will be ok.
If he blows up his business and sells via B&M stores, he should watch out.
It is the nature of those guys to optimize their business...

I do hope business picks up for Rob. REO's are what keeps me from drooling over all of the new gear constantly coming out. Found my happy place.

Only Rob can weigh the options; whether it be another round of sourcing the materials that go into a Reo, a different company for milling, investing in equipment and the skilled workers to run it, reducing profit margins in favor of increased sales or any number/combination of things.

Regardless, genuine REO for me. NO clone.

Buying From China Is in Fact Buying American
It can be to an extent, but it certainly isn't when you mail order from a Chinese company.

When you mail order a product from a Chinese company, how much of what you're spending stays in the US?

In the end, we must look at what wealth is and how it's created. I don't have a lot of time right now, but the bottom line is that wealth is can only created by extracting resources out of the ground, by refining them, or by manufacturing or building something, or by growing something (agriculture), or by designing or inventing something.

I absolutely will not buy a product that's a blatant rip-off of someone else's (patented!) design. Do do so would be to support thieves.

Yes, I own bottom-feeders that are not REOs. But they are not blatant copies either.

I think Rob knows what he's doing, and he knows his market. He has a bomb proof product, and caters to a niche' market. Every part on a Reo is repair or replaceable, and Rob's service is exemplary. It's why I spend my money here.
The vape market is fickle. A year ago, people were spending big money on mechanical tubes. Many authentics could be sold in minutes, for well over original price. Today, you can barely give them away. Provari swore for years they would not make a VW mod; and by the time they introduced one, it was already obsolete. Meanwhile, 'throw away' DNA boxes are selling like hot cakes.

.

Warren Buffett, a multi billionaire and one if the wealthiest men on planet earth, says that's incorrect.

His entire Portfolio of wealth stems from sales and management of intangibles.

He didn't invent, build, dig, or plant anything tangible.
He invested wisely and sold experience.

Business is pretty straight forward if you understand what you are doing.

Tons of people here have obviously never ran their own businesses.
Some are well known vendors who really should ask for help from someone who knows what they are doing.

I wish everyone felt this passionate about the clone atties being sucked on while being enraged at yet another inevitability created by consumers...

Yes, that would be "us". I have some very special vaping kit that has been cloned to hell and back but I know the difference. It doesn't devalue my mod/Atty - to me. And "me" is who I vape for.
