The Gun Slinger by Stephen King. 1st of the 7 part Dark Tower series. 2nd time around on the series, but it's a really good read.

Marvel published some super awesome graphic novel interpretations of the Dark Tower series. If you are into graphic novels, you can finish out the series with those! :)

I'm an avid reader and I'll read just about anything. Some of the books mentioned on this thread are some of my favorites, The Gunslinger series, Lord of the Rings, Ender's Game, vampire stuff.

Lately I have been on a huge young adult dystopian kick. I am currently reading World After by Susan EE. It's okay. Before that I read the most recent book in the Cinder series by Marissa Meyer. This series was very clever. Each book has a new main character based on a fairy tale princess, but for example Cinder is actually a cyborg, and the story involves a future earth in conflict with the inhabitants of Luna. It's a hoot, and very well done, IMO.

The last two 'grownup' books I read were The Goldfinch, by Donna Tart and The Bloodletter's Daughter by Linda Lafferty. The Bloodletter's daughter is a bizarre tale that's actually based on a true story of the mad son of Hapsberg Emperor Rudolf II.

Let's see... I'm also a big fan of the Harry Dresden chronicles, Game of Thrones, anything dystopian, and lots of sci fi and fantasy.

I just finished a reread of the entire Dresden Files series. I felt a refresher was in order since the new one will be out in a couple of months.

I'm trying to decide what to read next. I might go with Oryx And Crake.

I hadn't read the new one was coming out! Squee! Are you a girl? If so, I have to highly recommend listening to a few of the Dresden books as audio books. James Marsters reads them and he's very good.

I read some of the Oryx and Crake series as they've come out, but did not read the last one since I read some wretched reviews of it. What was the second one? After the Flood or something? And I think the third is madaddam.

Yep. Skin Game comes out on May 27th. I'm squeeing right along with you. I haven't tried the audio books yet, but I sure would like to. I wonder if the library has the audio books?

That sounds like the correct titles for the Oryx and Crake series.

Fantastic series! I loved this... It's definitely Stephen King's masterpiece, and they get better by the book.

Currently finishing up Small Gods by Terry Pratchett. His wit and smooth satire of society is incomparable.

I love, love, love reading on my kindle fire. I am disabled and spend most of my time stuck at home so I spend way too many hours a day reading and vaping.

The 3 I am currently reading are:
Fall of Giants by Ken Follett
The Homesman by Glendon Swarthout and
Opal by Laurine Snelling.
For the last few months I seem to be reading a lot of novels focused on women settling in the West.

I typically get thru a book each day. I would be in trouble without the free kindle blogs. I usually manage to find 2 or 3 free ones each week. The only thing I hate about the kindle is that you can't loan books to your friends. Once you buy a book it should be yours to pass around to whoever you chose. They do have a few older titles that can be loaned out but they are very limited.

Yep- I agree, there is nothing better than a good book along with a good vape!

You might want to look for The City of Ember and the sequels by Jeanne DuPrau. They're young adult dystopian to the max.

Butters now, Butters forever. Polka will never die! The Dresden Chronicles are one of the first where I ever fixated on a minor character as my favorite, and Bob gets a vote as well.

Fascinating reads, and you have to watch Butcher very, very carefully for exactly what's being said. Note...Thomas never told Harry that they were Maggie's only children... Plus I'm dying to find out how Molly does as Lady Winter.

They also only let you loan a book once...ever.

It's a good series but I still consider The Stand to be King's best work. It was the first novel I ever liked enough to read more than once.

I've yet to find a book I can reread. For me it's like watching watching reruns of 90's sitcoms. It was fun at the and you miss it, but you wouldn't watch the marathon on TNT. lol

I've found few I can't re-read. :) There's around 2,000 books on library shelving in the cellar. All have been read--at least once. Some are old favorites.

I've tried a few audio books. I find that I can't pay attention to them so I gave them up. I'm looking forward to Kim Harrison's latest installment of her The Hollows series. It's one of my guilty pleasure. The Dresden Files is another series I've been meaning to get to.

I very rarely listen to audiobooks, as I prefer to read. I tried listening to Wool on audiobook and the narrator's voices drove me insane, so I just gave up and went for the book. A good narrator goes a long way though. James Marsters is good. Also, I listened to a few Tony Hillerman books that had a great narrator as well.

Wool, and all the sequels, btw, amazing, excellent. I didn't want the story to end.

This reminded me of a few authors I missed. Terry Pratchett is one, Neil Giamen is another. Have you read The Long Earth, by Pratchett and some other guy? The first book was, I thought, amazing. The second one, not so much, but the first is well worth looking at.

I will have to get The City of Ember. The title sounded familiar, but when I looked it up the plot didn't ring a bell.

Butcher does a great job with character development. It is not at all what I expected when I first started reading the books. And you do definitely have to read carefully. I love Butters, and Bob, and Molly, and Mouse.
