For those who've already seen my query i apologize for subjecting you to it again, but i didn't get an answer.

Someone who isn't me has a problem with alcohol and doesn't want it in his system,
so he wants to know if alcohol is more or less (or, more more than less)
rendered inert in the vaping process?
You know, like when you cook with it and it evaporates away?

Because if we're talking about 100 proof grain alcohol
and my friend uses it to cut his VG by say, 25%,
that's still enough to slam him if it's evaporating right to the back of his throat,
especially if he's vaping all day.

Thanks,
- joe

I can't speak to chemical changes in the alcohol due to the temperature of the atomizer, but given that you vape in milliliters, you don't absorb enough alcohol for it to be felt - even at concentrations of 25% (which I can't recommend - even 15% for me was unpleasantly harsh in a non-nicotine way) you're talking about getting 1 ml of ethanol a day, at most. There's roughly (back-of-the-envelope calculation) twenty times that much in a can of beer.

So someone who is sensitive to alcohol's effects (me all the way) can vape a small percentage of alcohol and be fine.

It's entirely different if someone has an alcohol problem. I just wouldn't ever tempt fate. Get your throat hit from nicotine, menthol, and/or a high-voltage device. Or all three. Thin out your VG with PG, water/PG-based flavoring, or distilled water (needs maybe 10% at most).

I'm looking into this to. I'm about to go to the local liquor store and pick up:
rum
cognac
vodka
tequila
everclear

And Ima look like an alqy! Even though when I get home I'm only goint to be using dropper bottles of the stuff. I hope I can find those miniture bottles for most of the stuff. DO you think when vaping becomes popular liquor stores will start carrying little dropper bottles of booze?

I add about 10% PGA to any mix I make that I add VG to. And I vape like a fiend, I have never tasted it or felt any ill effects from it. No one has said they can smell alcohol on my breath either. Since there are 25ml in a shot, and you are suppose to wait at least an hour for each drink consumed before driving. You would have to vape 250ml in under an hour to feel any affects. And of course wait an hour before driving. Since I normally vape about 2ml a day, it is astronomically low (IF the alcohol is not burned off which I believe it is or I would not get the throat hit) to affect me in anyway.
Just my 2 cents

The alcohol is vaporized with the rest of the ingredients. How much is absorbed by the lungs is anyone's guess. I can't see how it's "burned off" since where do the alchy vapors go if not into your lungs?

I use 10% PGA in my mixes and if I inhale (instead of mouth-fill like a pipe or cigar) I can taste the alchy.

It's such a small amount that you are never going to buzz off of it, like Scubabatdan said.

I certainly woudn't worry about any alcohol in juice or in attys after cleaning having any discernible effects. I also wouldn't worry about molecular changes in alcohol due to the heat from the atty. Decomposition of ethyl alcohol occurs somewhere around 400ºC (although this number varies depending on the source) without the presence of a catalyst. The boiling point of ethyl alcohol, 78ºC, is significantly lower than PG, 188ºC, so it probably vaporizes along with the PG/VG.

I agree with Scubabatdan....

I believe that the amount of alcohol - even at 25% of the mix - is negligible. If you were to vape 2 ml a day AND you used 25% PURE alcohol (which isn't possible) AND all of it went into your system you would be receiving a total of 0.5 ml over the course of the day. And if you were vaping over 16 hours, that would be about 0.03125 ml (31.25 microliters or 0.00634 of a teaspoon) an hour. That is much less than a drop an hour... Less than a literal DROP!

You would probably get more unintentionally from mouthwash and cough syrup!

***Please feel free to verify my math - it is late here!***

I agree with Dan on this. I normally include 10% 190 proof Everclear to my mixes. It will give back the hit lost in adding 30% VG to my mixes.

Pick up some bottles of flavorings and you will see that many food flavorings contain alcohol.

For those looking for an alternative to everclear 190 proof, you can order online Devil Spring Vodka at 160 proof from here:
WineChateau.com Devil Springs Vodka 160@

This is your best bet if your state does not sell everclear. It would be a good replacement for everclear when making menthol crystal concentrate, or TA (Tobacco Absolute) and EM (Ethyl Maltol) mixes.

Added:

Well I'll be... look at this, everclear for sale online:
http://a.bacchus.free.fr/liquors/grain.htm
They can not ship to California, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, or Washington.
And it is temorarly out of stock... go figure.

Contact them here to back order it:
Bacchus Cellars, Inc. 5164 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338, USA
Tel: 770-457-5634
Fax: 770-451-3938

Hope this helps
Dan

Well i heard it provided a better throat hit,
and that's important to me my friend when i'm he's trying to cut down my his nicotine level.

But it's not a good thing if someone gets accidentally drunk.

- joe

I got a friend who uses alcohol and he's an alcoholic. It's been around 35 years since he's had a drink. We are very proud of him.:)

He has no problems. He puts it in the catogory of things like vanilla extract which he eats plenty of because he loves sugar cookies.

The alcohol in vanilla extract used in baked foods evaporates.

Since the cold and flu season is just settling in, it's too soon for me to be a believer BUT!

The 10% alcohol and the PG in my vape MAY be why I've lost a long-term low grade sinus infection (I "french" inhale a lot) and (knock on wood) so far what few cold symptoms I've got have been mild.
